The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ********************************************************************* Mary Elizabeth Sliger Brown - 1870-1939 Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brown passed away Monday evening (Dec. 25,1939) at 11:45 o'clock in a Sweetwater hospital which she had entered several days ago for treatment. She had been in failing health for several years and had been bedfast for the past two months. Funeral services held from the Shep Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at the two o'clock, were conducted by the Rev. Melvin Byrd. Burial was in the Shep cementery. The deceased was born in TN October 10, 1870. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Sliger, a pioneer couple of the state of TN. She came to TX with her parents in 1880 locating in Milam County. They later relocated in Bell County and it was there that she later met and was married to Mr. Marion Brown on June 5, 1892. The couple continued to live there for some years and came to this section of TX in 1904 settling in the Shep community of South Taylor county, which has been the family home. She was converted during the early years of her life uniting with the Missionary Baptist church of which she was quite active until recent years. She was a member of the Shep church. Survirors are her companion, Mr. M. (Marion) Brown, a daughter, Mrs. W.H. Pillion of Shep; four sons, W.S. Brown of Shep, H. Claude Brown of Littlefield, Roy and Ira Brown both of Richmond CA. A son, Clyde, died overseas in France during the World War conflict. Two sisters, Mrs. C.F. Couch of Brady, Mrs. Martin Huff of Albuquerque, NM, five brothers, S.S. Sliger of Brownwood, J.I. Sliger of Blackwell, A.D. Sliger of Anaheim, CA. There are fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren who survive. Pall bearers were W.W. Cook, John Christian, Clyde Storey, T. J. Talley and Bud Self. -------------
