Cheatham, aged 14 years, 10 months, 11 days, after an illness of only 36 hours, of lock jaw, caused from sticking a nail in his foot nine days before. Many of the school children of Abilene will remember Lonie, or ÒFessÓ as he was sometimes called. Several years of his short bright life was spent with them. Many and true were the friends he made wherever he lived Ð being of a quiet, kind and impartial disposition made his school mates love him; being ambitious, studious and obedient caused all his teachers to admire and respect him. It was hard, so hard, to give him up just as he was almost a young man Ð but God knoweth the best and will always do what is best for his children.
