Willis, Native Here, Dies at 57 Tom H. Willis Sr., 57, owner of Willis Lumber Co. of Abilene, died in Hendrick Memorial Hospital at 1 a.m. Friday. He underwent surgery about a week ago. His home was at 2534 S. 11th St. Mr. Willis was born June 27, 1899, in Abilene, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Willis. He attended Abilene Schools, and went to work in the City Engineering Department immediately after getting out of high school. For 27 years Mr. Willis was employed by the city. He was city engineer for a total of about eight years, serving at various times in that capacity, including during World War II. He also served as assistant city engineer, building inspector and paving inspector. At the time of his resignation about 1946 he was engineer in charge of paving. Mr. Willis was married to Juanita McDaniel on Feb. 4, 1926, in San Angelo. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Mrs. L. B. Sinclair Jr. of Midland and Mrs. W. E. Zimmerman of Dallas; a son T. H. Willis Jr. of 4065 Waldemar St.; a granddaughter, Cindy Willis, of 4065 Waldemar; three brothers, John T. Willis of Waco, R. P. Willis of Wichita Falls and C. G. Willis of 110 Merchant; two sisters, Miss Sally [Sallie] L. Willis, a teacher in the Fort Worth schools, and Mrs. Ike Hudson of 341 Jeanette St.; and one aunt, Mrs. George McDaniel of 754 Butternut St. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Laughter-North Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Francis B. Benton, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Julian McDaniel, Yancey McDaniel, A. T. McMillian, L. V. Tate, E. G. Tikker, Carl Mahan and A. C. Pratt of Abilene, and Todd Willis of Waco.
