The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** Sam Winston Yesterday about 8 oÕclock a negro who had been stealing a ride on an east bound freight train jumped from a box car near the passenger depot before the train began to slack in speed much, and his clothes caught on something in the doorway and caused him to fall, head downward. He was dragged in this position 200-300 feet. His head, shoulders and chest were pretty badly beaten up and he died from the effects of it about 10:30 oÕclock. Dr. F.E. Haynes, the county physician, and Dr. W.W. Wallace, the railroad physician, both repaired to his assistance immediately after the accident, but they could do nothing for him. He was conscious for a few minutes after he got hurt and gave his name as Sam Winston, and said his home was at Trinity, Texas. His appearance would indicate that he was about 21 years old.
