Bell E.W. McMillan C.M. Pullias THE FIRST LECTURE HALL From the beginning of the Lectureship through 1928 all activities were scheduled in this "chapel hall" of the administration building. Returning from their preaching appointments shortly after midnight on January 28 - just one month before the 1928 Lectureship - Homer Hailey and Paul Southern discovered the fire. The alarm was quickly sounded and a valiant flight put forth, but before daylight the leaping flames had comnpletely destroyed the old building. There were seven hunder of the wooden opera seats including the three-sided balcony above the lower floor. EARLY LECTURESHIP PERSONALITIES Hall L. Calhoun F.L. Young Cled. T. Wallace G.H.P. Showalter Batsell Baxter F.L. Rowe A.R. Holston SPEAKERS FOR 1921 AND 1923 Among the 1921 speakers were administrators Sewell and Speck, and the A.C.C. men who gave more speeches than any other, G.C. Brewer. The 1923 speakers included: G.A. Dunn, Sr, E.W. McMillan, B.F. Rhodes, A.O. Colley, Oscar W. Smith, J.P. Sewell, W.D. Campbell, J.F. Cox, W.L. Swinney, F.B. Shepherd W.D. Bills and Carl Etter. THE 1922 LECTURESHIP These ex-students of David Lipscomb College met at Abilene to enjoy the fellowship of the 1922 Lectureship Here are twelve of the sixteen men who delivered major addresses at the 1922 Lectureship. EARLY LECTURESHIP PERSONALITIES G.C. Brewer James F. Cox F.B. Shepherd Jesse P. Sewell Henry Eli Speck George A. Klingman G. Dallas Smith 1925 AND 1932 Six of the speakers of the 1925 program were W.M. Davis, Silas E. Templeton, Wilbur H. White, A.E. Walker, John T. Hinds and R.O. Kenley. A large group of visiting preachers at the Lectureship in 1932. 1927 CROWDS BREAK ALL RECORDS Twelve major speakers in 1927 were these: Jesse P. Sewell, W. Claude Hall, W.A. Kercheville, W.D. Campbell, Carl Etter, C.R. Nichol, John T. Smithson, R.L. Whiteside, W. Don Hockaday, R.C. Bell, R.R. Brooks, and the principal lecturer, Hall L. Calhoun. Probably the largest audience to gather in Texas in the history of the Restoration Movement, more than 2,000 crowded the "old gymnasium" to hear Calhoun who had just resigned under controversy at Transylvania.
