BELCHER CEMETERY TITUS COUNTY, TEXAS The Belcher Cemetery is a small public cemetery in the north central part of Titus County. Mr. Lynch Harper believed Mr. George Belcher gave the land to begin this cemetery but proof has not been found. Nothing is known of its origin but we know by the monument of Kernel Alford Belcher that was buried January 17, 1880 of its approximate establishment. There are twenty eight (28) observable grave markers of wood, native stone and metal throughout the cemetery and other large vacant areas where, most likely, other graves existed. At least two depressions identify most likely graves without markers. There is a Funeral Home Marker (FHM) beside a native stone. Only recognizable “died Aug ---”. There is another FHM beside a native stone. To reach the Belcher Cemetery from the Titus County Court House take Jefferson Street (US 271) north 16.3 miles to the intersection of FM 71. Turn right (east) on FM 71 and proceed 4.3 miles to a small oil, gravel, and dirt road that intersects FM 71 on the left. The cemetery lies about 0.1 mile north of FM 71 and is visible from that intersection. Belcher cemetery is well maintained at this writing with the last known burial occurring in 1995.
