Pleasant, Titus County, Texas This is an abandoned cemetary that is located on the banks of Riipley Creek, and is referenced in "History of Titus County, Texas, Volume I" by Traylor Russell, on page 37. According to Mr. Russell the cemetary is located about 14 miles NW of Mt. Pleasant at the NE corner of a 90-acre tract of land that originally belonged to Charles Samuel Black, and recorded on the W.R. Franklin Survey. Currently the property is owned by the Golden Ranch in Mineola. From Hwy 271 north, turn west on CO. Rd. 1220 (which is then arked by a blue and yellow sign numbered "36") and follow for several miles. Eventually you will pass another road that "T's" into #36 and is marked "11" - just past this intersection you will see a large tan barn on your right. You will come to a very small bridge, and the cemetary is located perhaps 500 yards back from this bridge. To the left of the bridge is dense woods, but to the right is a clearing. CAUTION!!! This property is used for cattle grazing and trespassing is prohibited!!! You will need to obtain permission from the owner or his spokesperson before proceeding onto the property. The cemetary listing is only partial, as there has been substantial deterioration, and only 11 stones are still visible. According to Mr. Russell's book, at one time there was a separate section for Blacks, and the families of Black, Blackburn, Delafield, Fountain, Williams, and Young were buried here. At present there are six stones for the Young family, and one each for Black,Blackburn, Delafield, and Fountain. Due to the proximity to the creek it is possible that flooding occurred, and more stones may be buried under the mud. The spokesperson for the owner of the property was very cooperative about allowing our visit, and was receptive to the possibility of allowing some renovation and restoration work to the cemetary. Mr. and Mrs. Young share a monument, rather than stones, and the inscription for Garret faces west, while the inscription for Mary faces east. Three of the Young children have footstones. The others may have at one time, but they are no longer visible.
