All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Panther, John - Memphis Enquirer 20th (May 10, 1860) - A passenger by the name of John Panther was seized with apoplexy when the boat was near Helena and died in a few moments afterward. He had but a short time previously deposited with Capt. Booker, the clerk, for safe keeping, the sum of $1138 which is still in the hands of the official, awaiting the order of the friends or relatives of the deceased. From papers found in the possession of Mr. Panther, it was ascertained that he was from Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, where it also appeared he has a family at present residing.
