Robert was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Colorado City, Texas. He found a love for carpenter's work at the age of 11. Throughout his life, he served as a self-employed carpenter. On Sept. 1, 1934, Robert was married to Laura Louise Langham in Big Spring. Robert is survived by his wife, Louise, of 62 years; four children, Larry Sutphen of Grapevine, Nelda Carstensen of Garden City, Ronald Sutphen of Clyde and Shirley Oaks of Water Valley. He also has 12 grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. Robert was the third son of seven children, W.A. Sutphen of Big Spring, Lucille Plowman of Carlsbad, N.M., Ray Sutphen of Carlsbad, N.M., Clydine Springer of Seminole, Okla., Elta McClung of Artesia, N.M., Charles Sutphen of Floresville and Edsel Sutphen who preceded him in death. Robert was loved by his family and friends and will be missed greatly. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of San Angelo. Francisca was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Cristales, Coahuila, Mexico, to Alejandro Siller Martinez and Basilisa Robles. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She had lived in San Angelo for 28 years. A prayer service will be Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m in the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mrs. Motl was born June 23, 1921, in Bronte, Texas. She married Oscar A. Motl June 17, 1939, in San Angelo. He preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1992. The Motls farmed at Twin Mountain Farm until 1960, when they moved to San Angelo. Mrs. Motl was employed at Gandy's Dairies for 22 years, retiring in 1986. She was a former president of the Home Demonstration Club in Tankersley and a former officer of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Velah was a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Tucker and husband, Kenneth, of San Angelo and Christine Rushing and husband, Larry, of Irving; and two grandchildren, Jason Tucker of Los Angeles and Scott Rushing of Irving. EMMETT GLEN PFLUGER EDEN - Emmett Glen Pfluger, 82, a lifelong resident of Eden, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, in a local hospital. Mr. Pfluger was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Mills County, Texas, to Charles H. and Emelia Pfluger. Emmett was married to Lou Ella Branton on March 1, 1947, in San Angelo. Mr. Pfluger was a member and an elder in the Trinity Lutheran Church as well as a member of the Phillip Millar Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 8549. In his military tour, he was stationed three years in England and Germany during World War II and served with the 315th Fighter Squadron and the 324th Fighter Group. Mr. Pfluger was a lifetime farmer and rancher in Concho, McCulloch, Menard and Sutton counties. He raised and loved Angus cattle. Survivors of Mr. Pfluger are his wife, Lou Ella Pfluger of Eden; two sons, Hawley and Jim Pfluger of Eden; two grandsons and four granddaughters of Eden; and one sister, Leona Loveless of Eden. In his military tour, he was stationed three years in England and Germany during World War II and served with the 315th Fighter Squadron and the 324th Fighter Group. She taught school in Robert Lee until her marriage to Delbert Preston Walling on Dec. 27, 1937. Walling was a Coke County ranchman. They lived in New Mexico, Arizona and Oklahoma before returning to Coke County in 1958. Walling died in April of 1963. After his death she moved to Robert Lee where she taught school for many years. On April 18, 1978, she married Robert Columbus Lasswell. They resided in Bronte. A lifelong Methodist, Virginia Lasswell was also a lifetime member of the Texas State Teachers Association. GARY ALLEN HOLTZ Gary Allen Holtz, 55, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at Columbia Alaska Regional Hospital. A member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Anchorage, Gary also was a member of American Legion Post 29 and recently had become a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a salesman for Builders Millwork and Supply for two years. Gary was a sports enthusiast and coached several softball teams, including the Bandits, a team that advanced to the national tournament. He also coached junior varsity football and basketball teams at East Anchorage High School. Being very active in basketball, he was the only referee to officiate in the Grate Alaska Shoot-Out every year since the annual tournament began. The day before he passed away, Gary was presented a basketball that was signed by the men's UAA basketball team, in honor of his many years of service to the UAA basketball program. The ball was a special gift and meant a lot to Gary. He also was touched by the outpouring of support by his friends in the community. It was of comfort for him to know so many people cared. Hubert Rich SAN SABA - Hubert E. Rich, 83, of San Saba died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996, in Austin. Service will be at 2 p.m. today in Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with burial in China Creek Cemetery. He was born March 25, 1913, in Eastland County and had been a resident of San Saba for 46 years. He was retired from the Texas Highway Department and was a member of the San Saba Gospel Church. Bryon Brock SANTA ANNA - Bryon Douglas Brock, 76, of Santa Anna died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996, in a Brownwood hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Park in Brownwood. Arrangements are by Henderson Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Lohn and had been a resident of Brownwood before moving to Santa Anna in 1974. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a mechanic with the Texas National Guard retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Brownwood Chapter of the Veterans of the Foreign Wars and was a Presbyterian. Bob Harris Bob Harris, 85, of Big Lake died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1996, at his residence. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake with the Rev.
