No morire, sino que vivire, y contare las obras de JAH. - Psalms 118:17 LOYD V. WILLIAMSON JUNCTION - Loyd V. Williamson, 75, of Junction passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, in the Kimble County Hospital after a brief illness. The son of Ovie Buster and Ruth Owen Buster, Loyd was born in Norfolk County, Va., on March 25, 1921. A graduate of Junction High School in 1938, he enlisted in the Army Air Force on July 30, 1940, and did his boot camp training at Randolph Field with the 53rd Squadron. Although he trained as a mechanic at Chanute Field, Ill., Loyd heard about a new program for enlisted men to become pilots with the rank of Staff Sergeant Pilot. This opportunity began his lifelong love of airplanes and flying. He graduated in the class of 42-H from Kelly Field, San Antonio at 9 a.m. Sept. 6, 1942. That evening at six, he married Dortha Waddell of Menard, Texas. Loyd, who was much beloved for his sense of humor, like to say he got his wings that morning and had them clipped that afternoon. Loyd saw service in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, flying B-25 bombers with the 310th and 321st Bomb Groups and was awarded with the Air Medal, with oak leaf clusters and field promotions to the rank of lieutenant. He flew the last of 51 missions on Jan. 2, 1944. After stateside service with the ferry command and as an instructor at Columbia Air Force Base in South Carolina, he returned to Junction and became part owner and then sole operator of Buster's Landry and Cleaners and remained in that business until his death. In addition, Loyd brought cable television to Junction with the founding of the Cableview company with H.W. Meredith and Billy Henley in the early 1960s. An avid outdoorsman, Loyd enjoyed hunting and fishing and was always ready for a good game of poker. He was fondly known as ``Butch'' to his friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, three-time Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, former city councilman and a retired volunteer fireman. Loyd is survived by his wife, Dortha; two daughters, Delia Ruth Williamson, R.Ph. of Junction and Rana K. Williamson, Ph.D. of Fort Worth; four sisters-in-law, Lora Livingston and Elizabeth Flowers, both of San Angelo, Katie Somerford of Odessa and Margaret Waddell of Menard; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. They were married for more than 50 years until he preceded her in death in 1987. Among the places she and Son lived were Wharton, Texas, Fort Worth and San Angelo, where they spent the rest of their lives. Mary was a charitable lady and rarely missed an opportunity to help those less fortunate than she, and saw to it that her children attended church on a regular basis. She enjoyed a close relationship with her children and grandchildren, as well as with her 10 brothers and sisters. She was a nurse at St. John's Hospital in San Angelo for 30 years and helped many people with their health concerns. To some, she was also a substitute mother and counselor. Many of her friends and family sought her wise advice.Others Lord, help me live from day to day In such a self-forgetful way, That even when I kneel to pray, My prayer shall be for ``Others.'' Help me in all the work I do To ever be sincere and true, and know, that all I do for You Must needs be done for ``Others.'' ``Others,'' Lord, yes, ``Others!'' Let this my motto be. Help me to live for others, That I may live for Thee.
