Luther Penney KERRVILLE - Luther Penney, 86, died Monday, Dec. 30, 1996, at his residence. He was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Thorndale and had been a resident of Kerrville for 39 years. LEE A. STEWART Lee Allen Stewart, 66, of San Angelo died Monday, Dec. 30, 1996, in a local hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, in the Robert Massie Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chris Seidlitz, pastor of the Belmore Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Bronte. He was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Tennyson, Texas, to Horace and Emma Brown Stewart. He married Patsy Hasty on July 23, 1960. He worked for Santa Fe Railway for 43 years as a telegrapher and a dispatcher in Slaton, Texas, and Amarillo. He retired in 1993 as supervisor of train operations in Albuquerque, N.M. Lee was a veteran of the Korean War and had been a resident of San Angelo since 1993. Lee is survived by his wife, Patsy, of San Angelo; one son, Dr. Kevin Stewart and wife, Victory, of Lockney; a daughter, Karen Grantham and husband, David, of Amarillo; two granddaughters, Lauren and Lindsay Stewart of Lockney; his mother, Emma Brown Stewart of San Angelo; a sister, Lou Westbrook of Amarillo; and a brother, Leo Stewart of San Angelo. THERESA MARCH DOSS Theresa March Doss, 1602 Paseo De Vaca, died at Meadow Creek Nursing Center on Monday, Dec. 30, 1996. Theresa March Doss was married to John W. Doss March 14, 1936. She was born Feb. 23, 1910, to N.M. March and Fannie Pulliam March. She was the granddaughter of early San Angelo pioneers M.B. Pulliam and Mary Susanna Pulliam. Her father was one of the partners in March Brothers General Mercantile Store. March Bros. was the last of the general ranch and farm stores in this part of West Texas. The store handled all classes of merchandise and groceries, and served as a bank and commission house, selling farm and ranch products including grain, hay, wool and mohair. She attended school, graduating from San Angelo High School and later studied at Southern Methodist University. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, St. Catherine's Guild and Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Survivors include her husband, John W. Doss of San Angelo; one son, John March Doss and wife, Mari, of San Angelo; one daughter, Tita Doss Kaspar of Aspen, Colo.; one granddaughter, Katherine L. She was the daughter of John and Laura Black of Marie, Texas. Her father was the postmaster and owner of the only store in Marie. She survived both her parents. She was the eldest of three children and survived both her sister (Modena Black Gaddy) and her brother (Osmo Black). Katie graduated from Ballinger High School in 1924, then the same year married Frank Flynt of Ballinger. Their only child was a son, Lanham Flynt. Frank Flynt died in 1976. Prior to her husband's death, Katie's primary interests centered around her home, her family and her church, and after her husband's death she spent many years doing volunteer work at the First Baptist Church in Ballinger. She is survived by her son, Lanham, and his wife, Charlotte, who live in Dallas; three grandchildren, Karan Thetford and husband, Rick, and family who live in Graham, Texas, Kathy Clements and husband, Mike, and family who live in Coppell, Texas, and Lana Kovner and husband, Gary, and family who live in Los Angeles; seven great-grandchildren, Tricia Thetford Stone and husband, Ed, and family, Tonya Thetford and Trent Thetford of Lewisville, Angela Clements, a student at BIOLA in California, Adam Clements of Coppell, Russell Kovner and Kristel Kovner of Los Angeles; and two great-great-grandsons, Zack Stone and Jake Stone of Lewisville. MARY PEARL BRONCY Mary Pearl Broncy was born April 1, 1906, in Philadelphia, Tenn., to Val and Mary Jane Harris Stockton, the youngest of five children. The family moved to Falfurrias, Texas, when Mary was seven years old. Mary passed away Dec. 30, 1996, in University Medical Center in Lubbock. Mary attended San Marcos College and upon graduation, taught school in communities in East Texas. Mary and H.P. Broncy were married Dec. 28, 1938, in Bennington, Vt. They moved to San Angelo in 1946 where they owned Broncy's Painting and Decorating until their retirement. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended until her health would not permit. She taught Sunday school and was active in numerous church functions. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, H.P. Broncy, two brothers, George and William Stockton and two sisters, Grace Stockton and Emma Lee Stockton, who died at age two of drowning. Mary is survived by one daughter, Carole Ann Stewart and husband, Carroll, of Holyoke, Mass.; two sons, Henry P. Broncy of Azusa, Calif., and William S. ``Bill'' Broncy and wife, Jeanette, of San Angelo. The family moved to San Angelo in 1946 where Ted established the Young Paint and Supply Co., and LoRena started Mrs. Young's Private School. She also wrote and published ``Your Phonics Book.'' She was a volunteer at Austin Elementary School for 25 years. LoRena spent a lifetime working with children. She was superintendent of the Sunday school at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and also a member of St. Mary's Guild. Ted preceded her in death in 1983. The oldest of two brothers and three sisters, she cared for them as though she was their mother, all preceded her in death. Mabel married Soland C. Ellison on Aug. 20, 1918. Together they owned S.C. Furniture and Ellison Courts, until Soland died March 29, 1961. She was a self-employed beauty operator. Mabel was a member of Southgate Church of Christ and attended until her health would not permit. She taught Bible class and VBS and was very active in other church functions. She had a great love for dolls, quilting and sewing. Born in Sanderson, Jack graduated from Sanderson High School in 1932 and attended Freed Hademan College in Henderson. He received his law degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1938. Jack returned to Sanderson where he was employed by the Sanderson State Bank and established a private law practice. Jack married Dixie Harrell in Waelder in 1940. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He was stationed at Mare Island Navy Base. After the war, Jack continued work at the bank, where he was later promoted to vice president and continued his private law practice. Jack served as Terrell County attorney from 1943 to 1988. He also served Terrell County as judge from February 1992 to November 1992. Jack was a member of the Sanderson Church of Christ. Jewel was born Oct. 21, 1913, to Richard Isaiah Key and Mary Jane ``Mollie'' Fowler. She lived at Grape Creek and attended Grape Creek elementary and middle school before attending Lake View High School. She married William T. Sanders on Nov. 25, 1933. ``Mama Jewel,'' as she was affectionately known and W.T. were married 65 years. Survivors include her husband, W.T.; and four children: sons, Richard Dwayne Sanders and wife, Beverly, of Knoxville, Tenn., Monty C. Sanders and wife, Hajar, of Sugar Land, Max Sanders and wife, Gene, of San Angelo and daughter, Wanda Brothers and husband, Allen, of El Paso. Mama Jewel was a rock with her steadfast faith and unwavering conviction that all of God's children are worthy of respect and love. She consistently chose the higher road of ethics and morals, and she and W.T. together provided a loving refuge to anyone who visited them. Her legacy will continue among those loved ones left behind. Her consistent prayer was ``Sweet Jesus, teach us to do Your will.'' The family moved to San Angelo in 1946 where Ted established the Young Paint and Supply Co., and LoRena started Mrs. Young's Private School. She also wrote and published ``Your Phonics Book.'' She was a volunteer at Austin Elementary School for 25 years. LoRena spent a lifetime working with children. She was superintendent of the Sunday school at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and also a member of St. Mary's Guild. Ted preceded her in death in 1983. Furniture and Ellison Courts, until Soland died March 29, 1961. She was a self-employed beauty operator. Mabel was a member of Southgate Church of Christ and attended until her health would not permit. She taught Bible class and VBS and was very active in other church functions. She had a great love for dolls, quilting and sewing. The eldest of two brothers and three sisters, she cared for them as though she was their mother, all preceded her in death. Mabel married Soland C. Ellison on Aug. 20, 1918. Together they owned S.C. Furniture and Ellison Courts, until Soland died March 29, 1961. She was a self-employed beauty operator. Mabel was a member of Southgate Church of Christ and attended until her health would not permit. She taught Bible class and VBS and was very active in other church functions. She had a great love for dolls, quilting and sewing. RUBY ROBERSON BEAN NALL Ruby Nall, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in Baptist Memorials Geriatric Center. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Private interment service will follow later in the day in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Ruby was born July 27, 1902, in Bartlett, Texas, to Kenneth and Julia Hunt, the last of 11 children. Ruby, her parents and a brother, C.A., moved to the Wall community in the early part of 1919. Ruby married Guy Bean Dec. 27, 1919, and after living several years in Wall, they moved to Veribest and operated a cafe for 18 years. She was known and loved as ``Miss Ruby.'' Guy Bean died July 8, 1946. Ruby married George Nall May 24, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1979. Ruby also was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and three brothers. Ruby was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 962 and a member of the Baptist Church. In the late 1940s, she was an employee of Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Ruby is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including C.A. Roberson of Fort Worth and formerly of Veribest, Sue Dixon Wyatt and Arlena Roberson Hinnant of San Angelo. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Mitchell officiating. Mrs. Knox was born Feb. 22, 1906, to James and Alberta C. Marshall Knox in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the private secretary to the bank president of Chase Manhattan for more than 42 years. Survivors include one niece, Mrs. Alberta Trubenstein of San Angelo; two great-nephews; one great-niece; five great-great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces.
