VILLA EVA WEDDLE Villa Eva Weddle, age 91, of San Angelo passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997, in a local hospital. Villa was born to E.H. and Fannie Weddle on July 16, 1905, in Glen Rose, Texas. Auntie is survived by her nieces and nephews, Joe and Juandell Weddle of Emory, Martha Holland of San Angelo, Jerald and Dorothy Weddle of Del Rio, Jeri and Hal Whitten of Eldorado, Bill and Star Weddle of Bastrop, Mike and Angie Weddle of El Paso; her sisters-in-law, Xuma Weddle of Eldorado and Thelma Weddle of Hemet, Calif. LOIS STARKS Lois Mae Pullen Boldridge Sims Starks exchanged her earthly home for her heavenly home on Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at 8:20 a.m. with her loving family at her bedside. Her going home service of praise and thanksgiving will be held at the 11th hour of the morning Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Crenshaw Memorial I.M.E. Church with her devoted son-in-law, the Rev. W.J. McClendon officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Starks Funeral Home. Lois was born the fourth of eight children to Buster and Ella Pullen on Aug. 11, 1917. Both parents; one sister, Sarah Walker; one brother, Charlie Pullen; and one grandson, David J. Bell, preceded her in death. She and her family moved to San Angelo, Texas, from Waelder, Texas, in 1934. She confessed a hope in Christ at a very young age and learned to put God first in her life, and she taught others to practice the same. Her last church home was that of Freewill First Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a charter member. She was a member of the Interdenominational Ministers' Wives Alliance and she worked faithfully with both until her health failed. She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nellie Rea and the Rev. W.J. McClendon Sr., Willie Lois and Thomas J. Bell, and Glendale Starks, all of San Angelo; five sisters, Ann Fletcher, Willie B. Wright, Olvis Williams and Mablean Ford, all of San Angelo, and Mary Crumpler of Richmond, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Jacob and Audry Pullen of San Angelo; four grandsons, one granddaughter, five great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters, all of whom will miss her dearly because her love was so genuine. Tom graduated from Ballinger High School in 1954 and then entered the United States Air Force in 1954. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 as senior master sergeant having received medals in Air Force commendation, outstanding award with oak leaf cluster, longevity with four oak leaf clusters, good conduct with three oak leaf clusters, national defense, Vietnam services with bronze star and a Vietnam Campaign with oak leaf cluster. Tom also was employed by the Austin Independent School District until his retirement in 1990. HERMAN ALBERT HEINZE Herman Albert Heinze, 96, of Miles, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in Baker-Brame Skilled Nursing Center. He was a lifetime member of Miles Trinity Lutheran Church. He stock farmed and lived in the Klattenhoff community his entire married life. He was a church council member for 30 years and served as chairman of the building committee for the new church in 1949. He served the local chapter 106 in the Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association for 47 years. With his interest in the community, he was the election judge for Precinct 131 in Tom Green County and was a director for the Miles Cemetery Association for many years. Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Lena; his parents; two brothers, Edmond and Richard Heinze; and two sisters, Ione Heinze and Nancy Press. Survivors include one daughter, Leona Dennis and husband, Carl, of San Angelo; three sons, Milton Heinze and wife, Gladys, of Miles, Robert Heinze and wife, Sherlene, of San Angelo, and Louis Heinze and wife, Barbara, of Arlington; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Stuart of San Angelo, Lena Kern of Hondo and Edna Gallas of Monahans; one sister-in-law, Alma Matteson of Miles; and many nieces, nephews and friends. MINNIE REBECCA ARMSTRONG DORFMAN Minnie Rebecca Armstrong Dorfman, member of an early-day San Angelo retail lumber family and daughter of the late Karl Armstrong and wife, Minnie Eva Scott Armstrong, died Jan. 11, 1997, in Ann Arbor, Mich. Mrs. Dorfman was 97 years old and the last of the six children of Karl and Minnie Armstrong to die, although the eldest. Her husband, Hiller Dorfman of Pittsburg, Texas, whom she met when they were both students at the University of Texas at Austin in the early 1920s, preceded her in death in 1960. Mr. Dorfman was an electrical engineer with Westinghouse Electric Co. for 36 years, and was an award-winning developer of the circuit breaker while with Westinghouse. Mrs. Dorfman was buried by the side of her husband on Jan. 15, in Beaver, Pa., their long-time home. Mrs. Dorfman is survived by two daughters, Ann (Mrs. Don Brundage) of Ann Arbor, Mich., with whom she lived for the last dozen years of her life and at the time of her death, and Jeanne (Mrs. Kirk Hollingsworth) of Greenwich Village, New York City; and by two granddaughters, Lisa Brundage of Sacramento, Calif., and Ellen Brundage (Mrs. Mark Persiko) of Ann Arbor. There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Dorfman in Ann Arbor on Feb. 6, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Dorfman resided in the north from the mid-1920s, but retained close and loving ties with her family in San Angelo. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Blair, John and William, and her sisters, Scott and Travis, all of whom were San Angelo residents until their deaths. Her survivors in San Angelo include her nephew, William Harvelle Armstrong II, and nieces, Anita Armstrong Adkins and Tina Armstrong. She was married to Gary Edmiston in Crane on Aug. 11, 1961. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, a past member of the McCamey Women's Study Club and a member of the First Baptist Church of McCamey. She is survived by her husband, Gary Edmiston of McCamey; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Roy Hodges and grandchildren, Holly and Steven, all of McCamey; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mindy Edmiston of Crane; one brother, Dan Stell of Friendswood; an uncle, Raymond Stell of Emerson, Ark.; two cousins, Doris Moore and Ronnie Sewell, both of Odessa; and nieces and nephews. CARTER Fred Sherman Carter, 87, of San Angelo died Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997, in Baptist Memorials Hospital. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Robert Massie Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred was born July 6, 1909, in Hamilton, Texas, to Maude Blansit and A.L. Carter. He and his twin brother were the last of 12; his twin lived only six months. His parents, six brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. The Carter family moved to Perryton, Texas, in 1911, where they were wheat farmers. Fred graduated from Perryton High School and entered Texas Tech University the year it opened. He married Mary Clark on Dec. 20, 1934, in Sinton. Together they moved to San Angelo in 1937, where he was the manager of the hardware department at B&H Hardware Co. In January 1946, the store Mary Carter Hammond Organs and Pianos Co. was built at 1305 N. Chadbourne, where he worked until the first part of May 1996. Fred helped build and establish the College Hills Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He married Mary Clark on Dec. 20, 1934, in Sinton. Together they moved to San Angelo in 1937, where he was the manager of the hardware department at B.&H. Hardware Co. In January 1946, the store Mary Carter Hammond Organs and Pianos Co. was built at 1305 N. Chadbourne St., where he worked until the first part of May 1996. Fred helped build and establish the College Hills Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon and was a member of the First Baptist Church. VICTOR MATTHIESEN Victor Matthiesen, 78, of Miles, Texas, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at 12:15 a.m. in Shannon Medical Center. Matthiesen and Deacon Leroy Beach celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery. Victor was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Olfen, Texas. He entered service at Fort Bliss Nov. 19, 1941, as an enlisted man and he received a battlefield commission to second lieutenant May 3, 1945, and was discharged on Feb. 6, 1946. He left Boston Jan. 6, 1944, and landed in Glasgow, Scotland, Jan. 29, 1944, and departed Bremerhaven, Germany, Dec. 26, 1945, and landed in New York Jan. 16, 1946. While in the service, Victor received the Bronze Star for constructing a delineascope that projected pictures on a screen for aircraft identification classes. Thousands of photos were collected for these aircraft identification classes. Victor married Bernice Schwartz June 22, 1948, in San Angelo and he was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles. Victor was a charter member of Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight. He had an extreme love for farming and he farmed for more than 48 years and served for 18 years on the board of directors at Miles Co-op. He is a man who loved his family and will be remembered for his cheerfulness, love of church and respect for his fellow man. Victor will be remembered for his love of Christmas lights and the pride he took in decorating his home and in woodworking and photography. Victor is survived by his wife, Bernice Matthiesen of Miles; one son, Steven Matthiesen and wife, Melony, and their children, Lisa, Monya, Jake, Ashley, Victor Bryce and Briley, all of Miles; three daughters, Judy Millican and her husband, Waldon, and their children, Ashlee and Lance, all of Robert Lee, Jane Boothe and her husband, Robert, and their children, Emily and Cameron, all of San Angelo, and Marilyn Knox and her husband, Tony, and their children, Jason and Amanda, all of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by four brothers, Bishop Leroy Matthiesen of Amarillo, Monsignor Monroe Matthiesen of Panhandle, Norbert Matthiesen of Doole and Arnold Matthiesen of Olfen; two sisters, Irene Mazur and Olga Miller, both of San Angelo; and a number of nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by one sister, Sister Rosario Matthiesen. Pallbearers will be godsons, Randall Schwartz, James Matthiesen, Greg Hohensee, Larry Socha, Jody Schwartz and Richard Mazur.
