Services are pending at Grimes Funeral Chapels. CHARLES H. `CHARLIE' ALEXANDER JR. Charles H. ``Charlie'' Alexander Jr. died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, at 70 years of age, after a courageous battle with cancer at his home. Such a Valentine this man's life gave us. Charlie was born Aug. 28, 1926, to Zora and Charles H. Alexander Sr. in San Angelo, Texas. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Beth Kendrick Jan. 12, 1951, in Eden, Texas. He worked for `M' System Foods, and he retired from the State of Texas. Being a lifetime resident of San Angelo, Charlie was a member of the First Christian Church and the East Angelo Lions Club. Two days before his death, he was honored as the 1997 recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship by the East Angelo Lions Club. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles H. Alexander III; and his brother, Louie C. Alexander. Survivors are his wife, Beth; one daughter, Mary Kate ``Katie'' Alexander of San Angelo; one son and his wife, Kenneth Luke and Kimberly Alexander, and one granddaughter, Kaley Loren Alexander, all of Clyde; and one sister and her husband, Iris ``Lorea'' and K.B. Graddy of San Angelo. Also, five nieces and one nephew, and a very special aunt, Francis Wilkerson of San Angelo survive. A gentle man with a beautiful voice, Charlie served good cheer to his world of family, friends, neighbors and any who met him. Charlie was a people lover. He loved good times, good company and good cooking. He loved to laugh. Wherever Charlie went, there was always a climate of fun and light-heartedness. He could not tolerate discord and bickering. He presented a persona of sweet disposition wherever he went. VICKI HOLLAND CANFIL BALLINGER - Vicki Holland Canfil, 48, of Headington, Oxford, England, and formerly of Bronte, Texas, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, in Headington. Funeral service was held at the Baptist Church of Headington, Friday, Feb. 14. The service suited Vicki's character: outwardly uncomplicated, but with much spiritual depth. Local graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, in the Mount Victory Cemetery in the Brookshire community with the Rev. Garry Bivins of Bronte officiating. Local arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Vicki Holland was born Dec. 9, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas. She married David Canfil on Sept. 19, 1970, in Miles, Texas. A graduate of Angelo State University, Vicki and David moved to Oxford, England in 1975. After a while they went to Israel for more than two years, then moved back to Oxford. She was a special education teacher at Chinoor Resource Unit for Autistic Children in Marston, Oxford, and was a member of the Baptist Church of Headington. She was preceded in death by her father, H.J. ``Red'' Holland and her grandparents, Herbert Holland and Dee and Kate Foster. Vicki is survived by her husband, David, daughters, Tryphania, Desiree and Shoshanah, and a son, Tancred, all of England; her mother, Mary Holland of San Angelo; two brothers, Cap Holland and Tony Holland, both of Bronte; her grandmother, Mrs. Herbert (Ruth) Holland of Bronte; an aunt, Anna Johnson of Brady; uncle and aunt, Dee and Lucille Foster of San Angelo; two nieces and three nephews; and numerous cousins. In addition to family, Vicki also leaves behind many good friends in Texas, England, Israel and other parts of the world. When a loving and virtuous person dies, that human conduit of love and virtue is there no more. But all that they emanated during their lives remains, and finds new life in those who have been left behind.Her husband and children are very strong and full of faith. Davis, 86, of Round Rock and formerly of Fort Stockton, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Round Rock. She was born Oct. 10, 1910, in Jackson, Tenn., to Mike and Mattie (Lennon) Couch. She was married to Neville Davis in 1930 in Jackson and he preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Davis had made her home in Round Rock for the past three years after moving there from Fort Stockton. While in Fort Stockton she had a small pie shop where she made and sold her own homemade pies. She was a Sunday school teacher in the First Baptist Church for many years. Pierce Jameson passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at the age of 80. She was born Oct. 6, 1916, in Freestone County, Texas, to Lilbon Robert Pierce and Marger Emily Pierce. She married Fred Jameson July 3, 1940, in Midland, Texas. They lived and ranched near Silver, Texas, until they moved southwest of San Angelo in 1958, where they lived and ranched until his death in 1982. She moved to San Angelo in 1988, and resided there until her death. PAUL PAGE ELDORADO - Paul Page, respected West Texas oilman and rancher died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. He was born in Eldorado on Sept. 16, 1927, the youngest of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Page. Paul graduated from Eldorado High School and later attended Southern Methodist University. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in business. One of the highlights of his life was being a starting halfback in the famous backfield of the SMU national championship football teams of the late 1940s. Upon graduation he was selected as the number one draft choice by several professional teams and chose to play for the Baltimore Colts. In 1949, Paul married is college sweetheart, the former Lucy Huckaby of Dallas, and they later moved to Eldorado where Paul began his oil and ranching career. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as elder in the church and as a delegate to the General Assembly. Paul also was a member of the Board of Schreiner College, a director of the First National Bank of Eldorado and a trustee of SMU. In 1981, he was inducted into the SMU Hall of Fame and later chosen as a recipient of the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award. Paul was known for his love of his church, his family and for his continuing pursuit of the perfect golf game. His family includes his wife, Lucy, and their children, Paul Page Jr. of Midland, Patty and Randy Gardner of San Angelo, Kathy and Joe Nobles and Carolyn and Willis Price, all of Midland. His 12 grandchildren are Sutton, Russell, Michael and Chelsea Page, Julianna and Reed Gardner, Ross, Rebecca and Natalie Nobles and Ryan, Page and Laura Price. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Maxine Page of San Angelo; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilson and Helen Page of San Angelo; and many nieces and nephews. PAUL PAGE ELDORADO - Paul Page, respected West Texas oilman and rancher died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. He was born in Eldorado on Sept. 16, 1927, the youngest of six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Bert Page. Paul graduated from Eldorado High School and later attended Southern Methodist University. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in business. One of the highlights of his life was being a starting halfback in the famous backfield of the SMU national championship football teams of the late 1940s. Upon graduation he was selected as the number one draft choice by several professional teams and chose to play for the Baltimore Colts. In 1949, Paul married is college sweetheart, the former Lucy Huckaby of Dallas, and they later moved to Eldorado where Paul began his oil and ranching career. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, serving as elder in the church and as a delegate to the General Assembly. Paul also was a member of the Board of Schreiner College, a director of the First National Bank of Eldorado and a trustee of SMU. In 1981, he was inducted into the SMU Hall of Fame and later chosen as a recipient of the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award. Paul was known for his love of his church, his family and for his continuing pursuit of the perfect golf game. His family includes his wife, Lucy, and their children, Paul Page Jr. of Midland, Patty and Randy Gardner of San Angelo, Kathy and Joe Nobles and Carolyn and Willis Price, all of Midland. His 12 grandchildren are Sutton, Russell, Michael and Chelsea Page, Julianna and Reed Gardner, Ross, Rebecca and Natalie Nobles and Ryan, Page and Laura Price. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Maxine Page of San Angelo; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilson and Helen Page of San Angelo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Florence Page and Lucille Page Kinnamon; two brothers, R.J. and James; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Page. James Blake Scoggin Sr., 78, of San Angelo died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at Baptist Memorials Center. James was born Oct. 27, 1918, to J.H. and Lillie Scoggin in Santo, Texas. He was a lifetime resident of San Angelo and member of Grape Creek Baptist Church. He married Juanita McNurlen on Sept. 1, 1938, in San Angelo. Between 1935 and 1937 James served in the U.S. Cavalry. He patrolled the area between Brackettville and Presidio. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946. He was active and participated in the liberation at Bataan and served overseas for more than a year. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, one service stripe and two overseas service bars. While in the Philippines, he was wounded. After the service James worked as a carpenter and later was an architectural inspector for DMS for more than 30 years. He was in charge of overseeing homes and commercial construction over a five-state area. He served as a board member of Grape Creek School and helped initiate the first major construction of the Grape Creek-Pulliam ISD. He was an outdoorsman, hunter and a charter member of the Fort Concho Muzzleloader and Red Creek Gun clubs. He was active in blacksmithing, beekeeping and ax making. James was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Todd and Cody Scoggin. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Scoggin of the home; one daughter, Linda Bryant and her husband, Jimmy, of Grape Creek; two sons, James Scoggin Jr. and his wife, Mary, and William A. Scoggin and his wife, Patti, all of Grape Creek; two sisters, Ella Nesler and husband, Horace, of Lonoke, Ark., and Juanita Faulks of Big Spring; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McNurlen, Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Graf and Mr. and Mrs. Charles McNurlen. This hunt has ended, and the eternal hunt has just begun. JIMMIE B. KEEN Jimmie B. Keen passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, after several months of illness. Mr. Keen had been a resident of San Angelo since 1942 where he met and married Maxine Harwell June 28, 1942. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in 1945. Mr. Keen was a member of the Church of Christ and first attended the church at Harris and Irving until a new church was built on Johnson Street. He served there until his death. Jimmie was a member of the Downtown Lions Club and served as cabinet secretary for district governor Bill Jones Sr. When District 2-A-1 was created it encompassed 27 counties, 54 Lions clubs and more than 3,000 members. He and Mrs. Keen were Century Club members of the Lions Children's Camp in Kerrville. Mr. Keen was a life member of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of city development. Mr. Keen was appointed co-operate judge and served until he was elected tax assessor collector for Tom Green County. He served two four-year terms. He was elected president of the County Assessor Collector of the State of Texas in 1957-58. Jimmie was a member of 570 San Angelo Blue Lodge and past master of the lodge. In 1977 he received a certificate from the Valley of Austin, the honor of being a Scottish Rite Mason for 25 years. Mr. Keen retired from the Texas State Board of Insurance. He received a certificate of service in recognition and in appreciation of 12 years of meritorious service with the State Board of Insurance. Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; his parents; two brothers, Paul and Delmar Keen; and a sister, Dora Sutton. He is survived by his brother, Waymon Keen and wife, Cordellia, of Hazel Park, Mich.; a favorite sister-in-law, Marcelle Wilkinson and husband, retired Dr. Ollie Wilkinson, of Oroville, Calif. Also sisters- and brothers-in-law, Herman and Mildred Whittle of Woodland, Calif., Kenneth and Maureen Harwell of Oklahoma City, Harold and Louise Harwell of Wetumka, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Hill Sr. AUSTIN - Malone V. Hill Sr., MD, 92, died peacefully in Austin, Monday, Feb. 17, 1997. He was born Oct. 20, 1904, in Santa Anna, Texas, and grew up in Eldorado. He attended New Mexico Military Institute, the University of Texas, Baylor University and received his medical degree in 1931 from Baylor School of Medicine. After surgical training under his uncle, Dr. James A. Hill, in Houston, he moved to Alpine in 1937 and opened a clinic and hospital. In 1939, he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He married Frances Morelock of Alpine in 1941, who has preceded him in death. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and attained the rank of lieutenant commander, participating in several Pacific beachheads, including Leyte Gulf, as a combat surgeon. His strong love for West Texas led him to remain in Alpine, and he became known for his surgical expertise, phenomenal memory and colorful character. After retiring from practice in 1977, he lived part time in Puerto Vallarta, but in 1993 moved to Austin to be closer to his sons and their families. He is survived by his sister, Katherine B. Hill of Austin; sons, James ``Jimmy'' A. Hill and wife, Tori, Dr. Malone V. Hill Jr. and wife, Haddy, grandchildren, Malone ``Trey'' Hill III and Virginia Frances Hill, all of Austin; and nephews, Julius W. McReynolds, 81, of Duncanville, Texas, died Feb. 7, 1997, after a brief illness. Mrs. McReynolds was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Niles, Ohio. She was a resident of San Angelo from 1943 to 1963. From San Angelo, Mrs. McReynolds moved to Lubbock and lived there for 33 years. She then moved to Duncanville in May 1996. He was a rancher and avid Indian relic collector all of his adult life. He spent most of his life in the Mertzon and Sherwood areas and he loved to fish, hunt and collect arrowheads.
