J.P. `PAT' ENOCHS Aug. 30, 1919-Feb.24, 1997 ELDORADO - A lifelong resident of Eldorado, Pat was born to Jeff and Myrtle Enochs in their home on their stock farm in Schleicher County. He attended local schools and graduated in 1942, from Texas A&M University, with a degree in animal husbandry and a commission as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He attended OCS at Fort Benning, Ga., and later reported to Camp Fannin, Texas, as a First Lieutenant. It was here that he met and married Gloria Schultz of Somerville in 1943. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Patricia ``Tissie'' and more than 53 years of love and laughter. Pat served 16 months with the 351st Infantry Division (fifth Army) in Italy, during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star and a promotion to the rank of captain. His whole life was devoted to public service. Pat was county and district clerk for Schleicher County from 1953 through 1974. He was also the veteran's service officer, for both Schleicher and Sutton counties for more than 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elks Lodge and was service officer for the American Legion for many years. Known for his dry wit and respected for his wisdom and integrity, Pat Enochs was truly loved by his family and community. Whether in civic service, out on the ranch or in his beloved pecan orchard, Pat's example was that of hard work, loyalty and passion for life. Remembering his positive outlook on his life, his sage advice through wonderful stories are his wife, Gloria of Eldorado; daughter, Tissie and her husband, Merlin Hauan, of San Angelo; granddaughters, Kristin Hauan of College Station and Julie Hauan of Dallas; brothers, A.R. ``Buster'' Enochs of Austin and Tom Enochs of Eldorado; sisters, Ethel Etheredge, Wenona Isaacs and Fae Bell Harzke of Eldorado. Bertha operated a cotton gin and was a cotton buyer at Missouri City for three years. She and her sons, Jamie and Carleton Kothmann, established Kothmann Commission Co. in 1957, and she was the owner of the Bertha Kothmann Insurance Agency, from which she retired in 1990. Bertha was active in many civic affairs, being named Citizen of the Year in 1981. She was a life member of the Menard PTA and was a charter member of the Menard Garden Club. Bertha loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Menard, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. Mike Tovar BIG SPRING - Mike Tovar, 48, of Whittier, Calif., and formerly of Big Spring, died Feb. 20, 1997, in Fresno, Calif. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olive Memorial Park. He was born May 6, 1948, in Big Spring. A Navy veteran, he was a truck driver and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Cursillistas. Survivors include his wife, Lena Tsosie of Whittier; a son, Jose Tovar of Austin; a stepson, Adrian Tsosie of Whittier; two stepdaughters, Cherlyn Cody and Andrea Tsosie, both of Whittier; two brothers, Paul Tovar of Dallas and Fidel Tovar of Pasadena; five sisters, Janie Tovar, Diane Chavez and Betty Tovar, all of Big Spring, Faye Torres and Lupe Tovar, both of Los Angeles. H.T. Parker BRONTE - H.T. ``Truman'' Parker, 91, of Bronte died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, in a Ballinger hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home. He was born May 1, 1905, in Jackson, Miss., and had been a resident of Bronte for more than 50 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a farmer, rancher and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Jerry Parker of Bronte; a daughter, Ida Lee Ellis of Ballinger; a sister, Floy Lee Nunley of San Antonio; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Edna Winans BALLINGER - Edna Inez Winans, 78, of Ballinger died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, in Houston. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Norton. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ballinger. Survivors include two sons, Dave Winans and Larry Winans, both of Houston; a daughter, Diane Huddle of Houston; a brother, Troy Compton of Midland; and a sister, Beatrice Carter of Ballinger. Kenny Kothmann BRADY - Kenny Kothmann, 50, of Pontotoc died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, in Pontotoc. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. He was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Brady and was a lifetime resident. He was a rancher. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean Kothmann of Pontotoc; his parents, W.W. and Zona Kothmann of Brady; three daughters, Pilar Kothmann and Lacey Kothmann, both of Pontotoc, and Tamatha Kothmann of San Antonio; and a sister, Kay Kothmann of Brady. G.W. Hardesty JUNCTION - G.W. ``Gee'' Hardesty, 65, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at his residence. Graveside service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Red Creek Cemetery in London. Arrangements are by Aubrey Fife Funerals. He was born in London, Texas, and moved to Panama City Beach in 1979. He was a self-employed furniture maker and a Protestant. He had served as police chief in Crane. Noble Hodge KERRVILLE - Dr. Noble H. Hodge, 77, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, in a local hospital. Services are pending at Grimes Funeral Chapels. BERTHA ANN KOTHMANN MENARD - Bertha Ann Kothmann, age 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at her residence in Menard. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Deron Biles officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, directed by Heritage Funeral Home. Bertha was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Llano County, Texas, to Thomas Jefferson ``Duck'' and Lily Mae Eaton Wootan. She and Walton Kothmann were married June 25, 1927. He preceded her in death in 1954. Bertha operated a cotton gin and was a cotton buyer at Missouri City for three years. She and her sons, Jamie and Carleton Kothmann, established Kothmann Commission Co. in 1957, and she was the owner of the Bertha Kothmann Insurance Agency, from which she retired in 1990. Bertha was active in many civic affairs, being named Citizen of the Year in 1981. She was a life member of the Menard PTA and was a charter member of the Menard Garden Club. Bertha loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Menard, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie and June Kothmann and Carleton and Barbara Rue Kothmann, all of Menard; six grandchildren, Jack Kothmann, Jay Kothmann, Joretta McAllister and Eric Kothmann, all of Menard, Kirk Kothmann of Bulverde and Kyle Kothmann of Midland; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by six brothers and sisters, J.D. Wootan of San Antonio, Pat Wooten of Bryan, Charley V. Wootan of College Station, Alberta Nelson and Mozelle Benton, both of Menard, and Yvonne Parker of Junction; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Frank Wootan and Don Wootan, predeceased her. Bertha loved her Lord, her family and her community, and was always looking for ways to encourage and help others. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Jack Kothmann, Jay Kothmann, Kirk Kothmann, Eric Kothmann, Kyle Kothmann and Walter McAllister. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity or to the First Baptist Church of Menard. ANITA MARIE BOOK Anita Marie Book, 72, of San Angelo died Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, in a local hospital. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Anita was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Westphalia to Fred and Annie Hoelscher. She graduated from Rosebud High School, where she played basketball. She graduated from the Providence Hospital of Nursing in Waco, where she was in the U.S. Army Nurse Cadet Corps. Upon graduation Anita moved to San Angelo and worked at The Clinic-Hospital for many years. She married Felix Book in 1946, and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed bowling for many years and loved quilting and playing dominoes. Her true love, however, was the many hours spent enjoying her husband, children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alexander; one sister, Angeline Hoelscher; two brothers, Herbert and Erwin Hoelscher; and two grandsons, Garrett and Gunnar Book. Survivors include her husband, Felix Book of San Angelo; children, John Book of Miles, Don Book and his wife, Diane, and their children, Gretchen and Regan Book, all of Plainview, Michael Book and his children, Rebecca Warnick, Tara Rainey and Laura Garlock, Pat Zeitler and her husband, Irvin, of San Angelo and their children, Eric, Nicole and Sara Zeitler and grandchildren, Camden Winters, Caelan and Liam Zeitler, Paula Sferes and husband, John, of Lubbock, Fred Book and wife, Vivian, and their children, Kendra, Anita and Neal Book, Betty Jo Wilde and husband, John, and their children, Douglas, Matthew, Julia and Joanna Wilde, Marian Seidenberger and husband, James, and their children, Sally, Ginger and Grant Seidenberger, Cecil Book and his wife Stella, and their children, Justin, Kyle and Kayla Book and Roy Book and wife, Chris, and their children, Paul and Lauren Book.
