JAMES PAUL CLARK James Paul Clark, 84, of San Angelo died at his residence Sunday, March 30, 1997. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Mr. Clark was born Jan. 26, 1913, to Edwin and Bonnie King Clark in Brady, Texas. He married Essie Cecelia Clay in 1937. Cecelia died in 1980. He married Hallie Westbrook in 1983. Hallie Clark died Feb. 2, 1997. For many years, Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo and the Business Men's Bible Class. He worked at a variety of jobs including 37 years as a Linotype operator and machinist in the printing trades, doing commercial printing and newspaper work. In 1942 during World War II, Paul volunteered for service in the U.S. Air Force at Randolph Field and served 3« years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. After the war he returned to San Angelo and continued working in the printing trade. He retired from the San Angelo Standard-Times in 1973. Survivors include a stepson, Oneal Westbrook and his wife, Judy, of San Angelo; a stepdaughter, Pat Hampton and her husband, Pete, of West Memphis, Ariz.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are pending at McCoy Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ CINDY LEA RUSSELL Cindy Lea Russell, 28, of San Angelo died Monday, March 31, 1997, at Shannon Medical Center. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Johnson's Funeral Home with L.C. Messer, pastor of Full Gospel Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Cindy was born Dec. 16, 1968, in Longview, Texas, and was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly of God. She attended Eden High School and later graduated from Carthage High School in Carthage, Texas. In 1988. After a serious car accident on Thanksgiving Day in 1989, Cindy was in a coma for three months, and spent several months in the Baylor Rehabilitation Center of Dallas. After her long awaited homecoming back to San Angelo, she received therapy from both West Texas Rehabilitation and working as a helper at Long John Silvers. During this time, she made many new friends, but never forgetting those of her high school years. We know that Cindy was on loan to us from the Lord, and we realize that she has made her glorious homecoming to be with the Lord. Those who have gone before her will be waiting to welcome her with open arms. We will always love and miss her very much. Cindy was preceded in death by one brother, Brandon Russell, in 1971. She is survived by her father, W.L. Russell and his wife, Mary, of Burleson; her mother, Donna Thibodeaux of San Angelo; three sisters, Rhonda Russell of Abilene, Laurie Carroll of Arkansas and Melanie Russell of Burleson; two brothers, Keith Bess of Arkansas and Brian Russell of Burleson; her grandmother, Rose Russell of San Angelo; her grandfather, A.W. LEIGHTON DAN FLEMING MENARD - Leighton Dan Fleming, 6« month-old son of Maylyn and Dan Fleming died Monday, March 31, 1997, in the Methodist Pediatric Hospital in San Antonio. Leighton underwent heart surgery Jan. 21, 1997, and had been in intensive care for the last 2« months. His death was because of other complications. Surviving are paternal grandparents, Jack and Betty Fleming of Tuakau, North Island, New Zealand; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Peggy Hooton of San Angelo and Christoval; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Blackburn Jr. JUNCTION - Marvin E. Blackburn Jr., retired district judge, passed away Tuesday night, April 1, 1997, in the Kimble Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Junction, Judge Blackburn was born on Oct. 21, 1912, to the late M.E. and Retta Blackburn. He attended Junction schools, San Antonio College and completed law school at St. Mary's University School of Law. He was the first St. Mary's alumnus to serve on the bench. Following discharge from the U.S. Army at the end of World War II, Blackburn returned to Junction to join his father in the practice of law. He was appointed district attorney by the late Gov. Allan Shivers in 1956 and held that position until the late Gov. Price Daniel appointed him district judge in 1958. During this time, he was administrative judge of the Sixth Judicial Region for eight years. He served unopposed until his retirement in 1977, at which time he elected senior judge status. He continued to serve in that capacity until health failed him two years ago. He remained active in the judiciary as chairman of the Senior and Former Judges Section of the Texas State Judiciary. He was a member of the State Bar College. Judge Blackburn was a charter member of the Hill Country Bar Association and served one term as its president. A longtime member of the Junction Rotary Club, he was its president for one term and was a Paul Harris Fellow. A past master of the Junction City Lodge 548, he served as district deputy grand master and grand junior deacon of the Grand Lodge of Texas. He was a 50-year Mason, a 50-year Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Alzafar Temple. He was a longtime member of the Sons of the American Revolution. A member of the First United Methodist Church, Blackburn was on its administrative board and served as lay leader for a number of years. As a charter member of the Men's Bible Class and the lecturer for 10 years, he portrayed Caiaphas in the annual Easter pageant until he was unable to climb the hill. Judge Blackburn is survived by his wife of 50 years, Roybeth; his daughter, Roybeth ``Peaches'' and her husband, Ed Savage, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Alice Roy and James Marvin Savage of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Roy Felps and Mrs. Sallie Snodgrass of Junction; one brother, William Blackburn of Austin; a faithful employee and friend, Mario Marquez; and numerous nieces and nephews. IRMA `LYNETTE' LANE Irma Lynette Chowning Lane, 68, of San Angelo passed away Thursday, April 3, 1997, at home with her family and the assistance of Family Hospice. Lynette was born July 6, 1928, in Truscott, Texas. She graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1949 and moved to San Angelo in 1994. She was a loving mother, friend and gifted teacher. Lynette was an Episcopalian, and a member of the Newtimers Club and Crafty Critters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Sarah Chowning, and her husbands. Lynette is survived by two daughters, Teresa Green of San Angelo and Mary Bode and her husband, James, of Fredericksburg; a sister, Mary Beth English and her husband, Bill, and their children of Wichita Falls; and several cousins. RUTH LEE EATON SONORA - Ruth Lee Eaton died in San Angelo on Friday, April 4, 1997. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Groom and her husband, Gene, of Fort Worth, and one son, John Dan and his wife, Dianne, of San Angelo. Her grandchildren are Diana Lea Scott and her husband, John, of Fort Worth; Mark Groom and his wife, Debbie, of Fort Worth, Terissa Eaton of San Angelo, Alicia Brothers and her husband, Steve, of Austin, and Tom Eaton of Austin. She also has five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Eaton was born to Louis and Terissa Hoggett on May 1, 1909, on a ranch near Segovia in Kimble County. She was the youngest of nine children. She attended school in Junction and graduated in 1927. After her graduation, she worked in the law offices of Coke and Bascom Stevenson, until her parents died. She then moved to Sonora to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Buena and Tom Davis. There she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Tom White, until her marriage on June 5, 1932, to John D. Eaton Jr., whom she had met in a local drama club. Ruth Lee and John made their home on Eaton Hill, until his death in October 1996. Mrs. Eaton was employed by the Louis Davis Insurance Agency from 1956 to 1966, and then worked for Web Elliot until 1969 as an insurance secretary. She was active in her community, especially in youth programs, as a leader with the Camp Fire Girls in the 1930s, and later as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was also a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ in Sonora. Mrs. Eaton was an outstanding Christian example for her children and grandchildren. Her kind and gentle disposition endeared her to her loved ones and to her many friends. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Church of Christ in Sonora, with Tim Dobbs and Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery. (Nelle) Duncan, 95, of San Angelo died Saturday, April 5, 1997, in a local nursing home. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Jerold McBride, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Cryptside services will follow in the Mausoleum at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Duncan was born Oct. 24, 1901, in Gordon, Texas. She married C.A. Duncan on June 30, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1970. She was also preceded in death by one son, C.A. Duncan Jr., and a daughter, Janelle Duncan. She was a longtime faithful member of the First Baptist Church and her Sunday school class. A.B. `SHORTY' BROWN Arthur Bennie Brown, 87, of San Angelo died Saturday, April 5, 1997, in a local hospital. Mr. Brown was born Feb. 13, 1910, to Iradell Campbell Brown and Rebecca Thedoria (Docia) (Conners) Brown, in Brady, Texas, and had lived in San Angelo since 1960. He ranched in McCulloch County on the Wilhelm Ranch before going into the military, where he served in World War II in the Army. After leaving the military, he became a heavy-equipment operator. Survivors include his wife, Claudine, of the home; one daughter, Rebecca Martin and husband, Ken, of Kingsville; three stepdaughters, Reba Pylant and Carol Jones of San Angelo and Janice Meek of Snyder; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
