Ross became extension agent for Concho County from 1968 to 1981, when he retired to raise registered Rambouillet sheep and registered Black Angus cattle. He was a director of the First State Bank of Paint Rock, member of the Eden Economic Development Board, co-founder of Concho County Trapping Club, member of Masonic Lodge 555 at Camp San Saba, served on Concho County Junior Livestock Board, life member of the American Quarter Horse Association, member of the American Angus Association and the American Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association. Ross was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Eden; two sons, Randy and his wife, Sandy Appleton, of Brady and Fred Brandon Appleton of Eden; his daughter, Shana and her husband, Robert Reich of Grape Creek; his mother, Gusta Mae Appleton of Brady; his mother-in-law, Josephine Haynes of Brady; two brothers, Roy Brandt Appleton of Brady and Conrad Grant Appleton of Rochelle; and four grandchildren, Megan Reich, Chris Appleton, Shawn and Krystal Borchert; and a very special friend, Jimmy Smith of Winters. She married Joe David Tatum on Aug. 22, 1956, in Brownwood. Mary and Joe moved to Big Lake in 1957, where Mary began a teaching career with Reagan County ISD, a career that lasted 40 years. During those 40 years, ``Mrs. T,'' as she was affectionately known by her students, taught physical education and coached volleyball, basketball and tennis in both Reagan County High School and Reagan County Middle School. In tennis Mary coached many district champs, regional qualifiers, state qualifiers and one state champ. Mary was named the Texas Tennis Coach of the Year in 1990. Mary and Joe were both named Citizen of the Year in 1994. Mary was also a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Joe, one daughter, Tracy Joleene Tatum, a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy John and Shayne Tatum, and two very special grandchildren, Lindsey Jo Tatum and Gunner Troy Tatum, all of Big Lake. During those 40 years, ``Mrs. T,'' as she was affectionately known by her students, taught physical education and coached volleyball, basketball and tennis in both Reagan County High School and Reagan County Middle School. In tennis, Mary coached many district champs, regional qualifiers, state qualifiers and one state champ. Mary was named the Texas Tennis Coach of the Year in 1990. Mary and Joe were both named Citizen of the Year in 1994. Mary was also a member of the Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Joe, one daughter, Tracy Joleene Tatum, a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy John and Shayne Tatum, and two very special grandchildren, Lindsey Jo Tatum and Gunner Troy Tatum, all of Big Lake. GEORGIA FAYE WILKENS HOHMANN Georgia Faye Wilkens Hohmann went home to be with the Lord on Ascension Day, May 8, 1997. She passed away in her home after a battle with cancer. She married Walmar H. Hohmann on Oct. 9, 1953, in Trinity Lutheran Church, where they have remained members. She was baptized there on Palm Sunday, 1954. She devoted her life to her husband and family. After her husband, Walmar, retired, they enjoyed exotic animal ranching at their Rocking Horse Ranch in Coke County. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother, Gary Wilkens. Survivors include her husband, Walmar; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherri and Rodney Brown, Dr. Linda Hohmann and Janna and Mike Ratliff; seven grandchildren, Travis, Jacob, Christopher, Lauren and Micaela Brown, and Chase and Cole Ratliff. HALL Jack Hall of San Angelo died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, May 12, 1997, in a local care center. Mr. Hall was born Sept. 27, 1905, the son of the late E.R. Hall and Nora White Hall, in McKinney, Texas, but was reared and lived in San Angelo where the family moved in 1906. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Miss Ruby Hall, Mrs. Thomas J. Keahey and Mrs. W.B. Beuvens; his only brother, Mr. Gibson Hall; and his only niece, Mrs. Patricia Keahey McReynolds. He is survived by his three nephews, William Beuvens of Honolulu, Richard H. Keahey of Austin and Robert A. Keahey and wife, Gay Blanks Beahey, of San Antonio; a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In later years Mr. Hall was a resident of the Rio Concho Retirement Home where he was affectionately known as ``Chief'' by his many friends there. RAYMOND CARL RAINWATER ROBERT LEE - R.C. ``Taos'' Rainwater, 79, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at 7:30 p.m. at his home in Robert Lee after an eight-year battle with cancer. Service will be at his church, Pecan Baptist Church in Robert Lee at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Military graveside service will be at 3 p.m. in Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home in Robert Lee. He was born in Dandridge, Tenn., on Nov. 10, 1917, and moved to Ennis Creek near Snyder in 1930. He married Bessie Norrid in Carlsbad, N.M., in 1947. R.C. and Bessie raised their family in Snyder where he retired from Johnstons Testers in 1971 due to poor health. In 1975, they retired at Lake Spence. He was a very proud American and veteran of World War II. He was inducted into the Texas Army at Brownwood in 1942. R.C. made the historic landing at Salerno, Italy, when the U.S. invaded Europe in September 1943. During the war, he was decorated with the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart and numerous ribbons. R.C. will always be remembered for his wit and sense of humor and his positive attitude about all the pain he endured throughout his life. But, he never complained. He was shot in the lung at Anzio, Italy, hospitalized for six weeks from third degree burns in an oil rig fire in 1953, and endured eight major surgeries since 1971. In 1987, R.C. realized that God had a plan which lead to his baptism while recovering from throat surgery at St. John's Hospital. Three years later he and other members of the Lost Chords Club of San Angelo, served as honorary co-chairmen of the Tom Green County Great American Smoke Out. He spoke to more than 1,000 elementary children as an American Cancer Society volunteer. Survivors include his wife, Bessie, of Robert Lee; one son, Kenneth Wade and his wife, Sherry, of Hobbs, N.M.; two daughters, Jean Hamilton of Robert Lee and Odessa, and Patsy Maddux and her husband, Ron, of San Angelo. His grandchildren include Johnny Wade of Ruidoso, N.M., Craig Wade of Abilene, Deanne Hamilton of Odessa, Joie Hamilton of Houston, Robin Wade of Corpus Christi, Chelsea Maddux of San Angelo, Lori Sofinowski of Beaumont and Trey Upton of Kerrville. He is survived by two great-grandchildren, Eric and Ryan Wade of Minot, N.D. JACK W. HALL Jack Hall of San Angelo died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, May 12, 1997, in a local care center. Mr. Hall was born Sept. 27, 1905, the son of the late E.R. Hall and Nora White Hall, in McKinney, Texas, but was reared and lived in San Angelo where the family moved in 1906. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Miss Ruby Hall, Mrs. Thomas J. Keahey and Mrs. W.B. Beuvens; his only brother, Mr. Gibson Hall; and his only niece, Mrs. Patricia Keahey McReynolds. He is survived by his three nephews, William Beuvens of Honolulu, Richard H. Keahey of Austin and Robert A. Keahey and wife, Gay Blanks Keahey, of San Antonio; a number of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In later years Mr. Hall was a resident of the Rio Concho Retirement Home where he was affectionately known as ``Chief'' by his many friends there. OLIVE D CALVERLEY FRY BIG SPRING - Olive D Calverley Fry, 67, died Monday, May 12, 1997, at her residence in Garden City. She was born Sept. 14, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of Glasscock County. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University and had taught elementary school in Big Spring and in Garden City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe B. and Zella Calverley; by an infant daughter, Mildred Jo; and by an infant grandson, Stephen David Gilstrap. PEREZ OWATONNA, Minn. - Former children's pastor for Victory Christian Center in Mankato, Jesus ``J.B.'' Perez, 32, of Owatonna died Sunday, May 11, 1997. Mr. Perez was born Dec. 5, 1950, in San Angelo and had lived here all of his life. He was a concrete finisher and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, Roy Perez and Ray Perez, both of San Angelo; his father, Felix Perez of San Angelo; one brother, Danny Perez of Oxnard, Calif.; one sister, Elva Gomez of South Carolina; four nieces; one nephew; and three grandchildren. DONTAY XAVIER YARBROUGH REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Dontay X. Yarbrough passed away into Abraham's bosom on Friday, May 9, 1997, following a car accident. Dontay was born June 15, 1979, in Atlantic City, N.J., where he attended public school. He came to Texas with his uncle, the Rev. Robert Yarbrough, and attended Robert E. Lee Junior High School. While at Lee, he was a standout in basketball, football and track. He was a member of the Greater St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in San Angelo. Dontay continued his success in sports and was a graduating senior at Franklin High School in Reisterstown. There will be a viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at Reisterstown Bible Church. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Solid Rock Apostolic Faith Church in Baltimore. Dontay is survived by his uncle and aunt, the Rev. Robert and Mrs. Rochelle Yarbrough of San Angelo.
