Mr. Estrada was born June 22, 1950, in Sterling City. He was employed by the city of North Richland Hills for 12 years as a crew leader in water management. Abel was a good man who was loved by all who knew him; a dedicated worker and family man who was always there to lend a helping hand. He left this world too soon but has left an impression that will last a lifetime. He will be missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Estrada, and two brothers, David and Arnulfo Estrada. FRANK MURPHY Frank Murphy, 48, of San Angelo died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at his residence. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Frank was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Detroit, Mich., to Patrick and Audrey Booth Murphy. He served in the U.S. Navy. Frank married Karen Shevsky March 24, 1973, in Detroit. He worked in the automobile parts industry. Mr. Murphy had resided in Andrews and Dumas before moving to San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his mother and one daughter, Megan Murphy. Survivors include his wife, Karen of San Angelo; one daughter, Bridgette Murphy of San Angelo; his father, Patrick Murphy of Detroit; one sister, Debbie Ganion of Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. EVA MAE PRATHER Eva Mae Prather, 89, of San Angelo died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Baptist Memorial Center. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Mrs. Prather was born Aug. 10, 1907, in Rusk County to Jeff and Annie Mae Pepper. She married Sam E. Prather on Nov. 23, 1926, in Henderson. While residents of the Stewart Community in Rusk County, they owned and operated a grocery store and service station for 16 years. Eva had been a resident of San Angelo for 50 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was employed by Baptist Memorial Center for 29 years. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers. Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Gerald and Mary Prather of Sweetwater, Eva and Pete Narvid of San Angelo, Betty and Bill Stuard of San Angelo and Sue and Freeman Ritter of Fairfield, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Estelle Hardaway of Tatum; two brothers, Horce and Herman Pepper of Tatum; two sisters-in-law, Irene Pepper of Tatum and Lucille Hornsby of Longview; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family requests memorials be made to Baptist Memorial Hospital. EDNA L. DRISKILL Edna L. Driskill was born to Lee and Minnie Jolly, Sept. 30, 1906, in Brown County, Texas. She grew up and attended school in Zephyr. She married Jess Driskill on March 10, 1923. He preceded her in death May 23, 1978. Mrs. Driskill is survived by seven children, June Stanford of San Angelo, Jolly Driskill and wife, Sammye, of Buffalo Gap, Modie Driskill and wife, Helen, of Eden, Jeanie Driskill of Lewisville, Bob Driskill and wife, Donna, of San Angelo, Wanda Fullwood and husband, Donald, of Lubbock, and Mary Lou Sponable and husband, Jay, of Brazoria. She also is survived by one sister, Mary Lunday of Waco; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Katie Shelton of Brownwood, Hazel Driskill of Fort Worth and Alma Jolly of Ada, Okla.; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Mrs. Driskill was a member of the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church and a member of the Mary Martha Class. JONES MILLER II OZONA - Bernice Miller, 82, of Ozona died Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at her home. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Johnnie Perkins officiating. Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home. Bernice Miller, the daughter of Mildred and Leonard Taylor, was born in Stillwater, Okla., on June 18, 1914, and moved to Ozona about 1930. She worked for her mother in running the old Ozona Hotel and helping with family meals until she met a young rancher, Jones ``Slick'' Miller II. They married in Sonora on April 15, 1932. Bernice attended high school in Ozona but married instead of graduating. ``Slick'' drove a dump truck making fills on the highway west of Ozona and worked at various jobs over the county. When his father, Roy Miller, died in 1960, he took over active management of the family ranch, the old Chas. Schauer ranch eight miles south of Ozona. Jones Miller II died in Del Rio Jan. 9, 1973. Bernice continued to live in Ozona and was a member of the Ozona Church of Christ. Survivors include a sister, Lola Grant of Summit, N.J.; two cousins, J. Lynn Fletcher, a Ph.D. and college professor in San Marcos, and Mildred Clarkson of Hope, Ark.; a half brother, James Jordan, may still be living, address unknown. We will all miss his sense of humor, special smile and his forever positive attitude. ______________________________________________________________ THELMA IRENE PHILLIPS SONORA - Longtime Sonora resident Thelma Irene Phillips passed away Tuesday, May 27, 1997, in Wimberley, Texas. She will be greatly missed by her family friends. Thelma Irene was born April 24, 1899, in Knickerbocker, Texas, to Beulah and Edward Pfiester. The Pfiester family contributed to early Texas history when Moses Henry Johnson and his wife, Delilah, Mrs. Phillip's grandparents, located in the San Angelo area after the Civil War. After her husband's early death, Thelma Irene's grandmother, Mrs. Delilah Johnson, operated the stagestop inn at Knickerbocker. Mrs. Phillip's parents, Edward and Beulah Pfiester, moved to Sutton County in 1903 where her father, Edward, drove mule-drawn freight wagons. During the Depression, her mother, Beulah, opened the Sonora Courts where she lived until her death. Thelma Irene raised her two children, Harold Briscoe and Louise Briscoe Glasscock, in Sonora and successfully ran for office in 1936 for the Sutton County treasurer's position, an office she held until her resignation in 1959. Her husband, George W. Phillips, as well as her eight siblings, preceded Thelma Irene in death. She is survived by her daughter, Louise Briscoe Glasscock of Austin; her son, Harold Briscoe of Midland; her stepson, Dr. Wendell Phillips of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her stepdaughter, Mrs. Bonnie Marx of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Bobbie Jo Glasscock for the daily loving care she has unselfishly given Gran the last seven years of her life. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the First United Methodist Church in Sonora. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home. ______________________________________________________________ FAYE TABOR Faye Tabor succumbed to pneumonia after a lengthy battle with cancer on May 30, 1997, surrounded by the love of her family. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jason Adams, associate pastor First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, at Friendship United Methodist Cemetery in Milam County with the Rev. Bill Fulton officiating. Faye was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Milam County and was educated at Southwest Texas State University and Angelo State University. After teaching at Cherokee, and while living in Waco, she was married on Feb. 3, 1942, to Marion Mills Tabor Jr. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1987. She was a classroom teacher for more than 40 years and was well known for her service to education, her church and community. She invested her time and energy to help people of all ages. She is survived by her sister and dearest friend, Sarah Elizabeth Shelton of Milam County, who was also a classroom teacher. They always helped each other, shared many common goals and loved to travel together. Her sister's piano music was always a delight for her. She is also survived by her children, Mike Tabor of Dallas and Ann McQuerrey of San Angelo and their spouses, Mary Coleman Tabor and Frank McQuerrey. A special joy in her life were her grandchildren, David Tabor, Elizabeth Tabor and Kristin Faye and husband, Alex Ramirez; and her great-granddaughter, Kaley Kristine Ramirez. Special gratitude is extended by the family to her friends of long standing who have given encouragement and support to her through the years. Her presence in our lives will not soon be forgotten. ______________________________________________________________ HENRY ROSE BALLINGER - Henry Rose, 89, of Rowena died at 12:20 a.m. Friday, May 30, in a Ballinger nursing home. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Sonya Grayles officiating. Burial will follow in the Protestant Cemetery in Rowena. Henry was born Jan. 6, 1908, in Runnels County to Charlie and Alvina Hamann Rose. He married Elda Lisso on June 18, 1939, in Rowena. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher. He was a member of the Zoar United Church of Christ in Rowena and the Runnels County Farm Bureau and had been a past director of the Concho County Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Elda, on Nov. 17, 1992. Henry is survived by his son, James Rose and his wife, Lema, of Ballinger; his daughter, Linda Lane and husband, Bob, of Austin; one sister, Pauline Williams of Idaho; his grandchildren, Kyle Rose of Fort Worth, Kenneth Rose and wife, Robyn, of Birmingham, Ala., and Kathryn Moerbe and husband, Steven, of Lexington; his great-grandchildren, Sierra Ashley Moerbe, Tylor Jacob Moerbe, Aleece Nicole Moerbe, Arden Virginia Rose and Madison Emery Rose; and a sister-in-law, Mattie Rose of Fort Worth.
