Max was a unique individual born with a relentless energy and enthusiasm that gave him a life often envied by those who knew him. During his boyhood years through his junior year at Central High School, one could find Max on the soccer field scoring goal upon goal. As a senior, Max's love of music took hold. He started a band, a music magazine and was interviewed by and corresponded with people around the globe. After graduating, Max went on to study history and philosophy at the University of North Texas. With six years of study behind him, Max would often be called upon by those around him to provide an answer concerning the history of our world. He never failed. His knowledge was astounding. Max's love for travel had started young. As a boy, he loved to stare at maps and had a collection of postcards numbering in the thousands. Again, with that energy and enthusiasm, Max set off to travel the world. Max visited more than 30 countries. He lived and worked in England, the Czech Republic, Greece and Israel. He spent time with Bosnian soldiers in Serbia, holy men in India and Mazateca Shaman in Mexico. Max touched the lives of thousands of people. Studying philosophy gave him the passion and the desire to want to know ALL people, and this in turn made him loved, respected and admired by those who came to know him. Max was born Feb. 8, 1970. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Maxwell ``Bubba'' Carter Jr.; and his paternal grandfather, Herman Maxwell Carter Sr. Max is survived by his daughter, Bridget Carter; partner, Beverley Hotchkiss; mother and stepfather, Cathy and Ivan Gully; twin sister and her partner, Amy Carter and Cody Kemp; maternal grandparents, June and Claude Williams; and paternal grandmother, Rosemary Carter. HERMAN MAXWELL `MAX' CARTER III The demise of Herman Maxwell ``Max'' Carter III took place on June 7, 1997, in Prague, Czech Republic. Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. As a boy he loved to stare at maps and had a collection of postcards numbering in the thousands. Studying philosophy gave him the passion and the desire to want to know ALL people and this in turn made him loved, respected and admired by those who came to know him. Max was born Feb. 8, 1970. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Maxwell ``Bubba'' Carter Jr.; and his paternal grandfather, Herman Maxwell Carter Sr. Max is survived by his daughter, Bridget Carter; partner Beverley Hotchkiss; mother and stepfather, Cathy and Ivan Gully; twin sister and her partner, Amy Carter and Cody Kemp; maternal grandparents, June and Claude Williams; and paternal grandmother, Rosemary Carter. STEVEN VAN FUESSEL Steven Van Fuessel, 42, of Houston and formerly of Eola and San Angelo, moved into his Father's heavenly mansion which Christ prepared for him on June 25, 1997, after a courageous two-year battle with a brain tumor. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Robert Massie Funeral Home with Thomas Baden officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. He was born Nov. 28, 1954, in San Angelo to Odis and Theda Cotton Fuessel. He lived and grew up in Eola, graduating from Eola High School in 1972 and later from Angelo State University. Shortly after that, he moved to Houston and was employed by AT&T until AT&T was deregulated. Then, Steve decided not to go to California with AT&T, but instead he chose to stay in Houston and went to work for GTE for the remainder of his life. Steve was blessed with many talents. As a young boy he was interested in learning all that he could. As a teen-ager he discovered God's plan of salvation for mankind and received Christ into his heart and became a born-again Christian. Steve taught Sunday school in Eola and at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Angelo. People in the workplace are quick to tell you that he gave 110 percent at his job, but always found time to help others who needed assistance. In the neighborhood, Steve was known to help others in whatever was needed. He managed all things well, and he believed that anything worth doing was worth doing to the best of his ability. The family feels blessed for having Steve these 42 years. Steve loved the Lord and trusted him to take care of him. Out of love for all people, Steve's heart opened wide and out of it flowed love, understanding and comfort. He listened and gave his best advice. Steve could not stand idly by when someone was being mistreated. A few times he laid his life on the line when someone he never knew or had never seen before was being beaten or robbed. Steve was loved by all people and will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his mother, Theda (Cotton) Fuessel in 1972 and his sister, Debra Ann Fuessel in 1990.
