A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. OTHADEAN HORTON BIGGS Friday afternoon, July 11, 1997, Othadean Horton Biggs left our world as we know it to go to a glorious place - Heaven. She was 91 years old. Graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, directed by Johnson's Funeral Home. Buddy Trull, pastor of First Baptist Church in Christoval, and her two grandsons, David and Steve Breazeale, will conduct the service. ``Othie'' - her special nickname - was born Sept. 20, 1905, in Winnsboro, Texas. Her parents were J.W. and Mattie Belle Horton. She had two brothers and two sisters. Her father became very ill and was diagnosed as having tuberculosis. Her uncle, L.B. Horton, encouraged the family to move to Sanatorium, Texas - a tuberculosis facility. Since her father could not work, her mother ran a boarding house to help with expenses. In that atmosphere of hard work, responsibility, respect and ``liking'' and ``loving'' the people she served everyday, Othie learned kindness, patience and laughter. These were wonderful characteristics she had all her life. Othie finished Carlsbad High School and subsequently moved to San Angelo where she enrolled in the San Angelo Business College, receiving a business and secretarial degree. She later had an excellent position with Texas Production Credit Association (TPCA), where she worked for Phil Lane and Len Mertz - two men she highly respected. They both said that no one could type as fast as Othie. On Sept. 25, 1942, she married Clyde Biggs. They established a home for her daughter, Jimmiedean, and for his daughter, Delores. Park Heights Baptist Church was her church home for many years. Othie was active in many facets of church life. She taught a ladies' Sunday school class and devoted a great deal of time visiting and ministering to the women and their families. Singing in the church choir brought great joy to her. She loved attending Women's Missionary Society. Missions were dear to her heart. However, her great love was working with young people. She was always greatly concerned about their relationship with the Lord. For many years, she directed the ``Junior Department.'' These were 10-, 11- and 12-year-old boys and girls. She taught them the plan of salvation, she taught them to memorize Bible scripture and she taught them her favorite hymns. In a few years, she retired from the TPCA to devote her time to her home and family. She attained the title of ``Mrs. Clean'' because she loved cleaning, scrubbing and making her home as pretty as possible. She truly was a good homemaker. She also worked with her husband in his business, Biggs Motor Co. She enjoyed meeting all the people who came in her office, and going to the courthouse to put cars on record or any other errand was a joy to her. Othie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Biggs; her daughter, Jimmiedean Ligon; as well as her parents, one brother and two sisters. Othie leaves behind a family and many friends who loved and respected her very much. She was the epitome of the word love - she always looked for the best in everyone. Survivors include a daughter, Delores Biggs Breazeale of San Angelo; one brother, J.W. Horton of Dimmitt, Texas; two grandsons, Steve Breazeale and his wife, Kathy, and David Breazeale and his wife, Cindi; a granddaughter, Beth Breazeale; three great-granddaughters, Renee', Lauren and Courtenay Breazeale; and Jo Ethel Johnson, a very dear and special friend who served the entire family for many years. The family wishes to thank Family Hospice for the loving care they gave our loved one and their assistance to the family. And a special thanks to the staff of Golden Years Nursing Home in Christoval, Texas, for their care and support during the eight years Othie was there. The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, American Heart Association or Family Hospice.
