PHYLLIS ELAINE JONES CRANE - Phyllis Elaine Jones, age 49, went to dwell with the Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning of July 21, 1997. Phyllis was known to family and friends as a RADIANT person, full of warmth and hospitality to all who met her. She was the ideal mother to her two sons, Chris Jones of Crane and Jason Jones of Mineral Wells, along with many of her son's friends who visited at her home. Her voice was kind and impleading - it made you feel that you were not just a welcome guest but part of the family - and that she wanted you to accompany her as a friend, whether to the kitchen table she loved to prepare or to join with her in prayer. Her heart simply overflowed with love for her husband, Durwood Jones, with whom she lived in Liberal, Kan., as he worked for an oil company in that area. During her last four-year bout with cancer, he devoted all his energies and compassion to her well-being. She especially enjoyed her two grandchildren, Kalee and Brice Jones, ages 5 and 3. They seemed to especially delight her, and they could do no wrong. Her mother, Amy Lampley of San Angelo, and sister, Patricia Weiser of Beaumont, were her ``best friends.'' The trio would rather visit together than anything else, and Phyllis and her mother talked by telephone almost every day. In the back of her Bible she had written several scriptural verses which seemed to impress her. One said: ``Wives, fit in with your husband's plans...'' Another stated: ``... train the younger women to live quietly, to love their husbands and their children, to be sensible and clear-minded, spending their time in their own homes, being kind and obedient to their husbands.'' Then she had personalized for herself Proverbs 3:5,6: ``I will trust in the LORD with all my heart and lean not unto my own understanding. In all my ways I will acknowledge Him and He shall direct my paths.'' Phyllis will be missed by additional family members: her brother, Mike Wheeler of Brownwood; her mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Mary Eva and Hugh Strickland of Crane; her two daughters-in-law, Nicole and Tara Jones; her brother-in-law, Ron Weiser of Beaumont; and her stepfather, G.H. But start out bravely with a gallant smile; And for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky!
