Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Charlie was born Aug. 26, 1932, in San Angelo and was a lifetime resident. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1971, with the rank of master sergeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal in 1960, the Bronze Star in 1967 and Air Force Commendation in 1971 for meritorious service. After the military, Charlie judged horse shows in the Dixie Nationals in Mississippi in 1933, and in 1994 judged horses at the Fort Worth Stock Show. He was also president of the Texas Palomino Exhibitors Association in 1984. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd and Agnes Sanders; and a brother, Buddy Sanders. Lutha and Mae Deene were married in 1929 by James Fry, minister of Killeen Church of Christ. Lutha predeceased her on July 31, 1984. Mae Deene loved to cook, play bridge and travel. She and Lutha traveled in every state in the union except Alaska and were working on plans for a trip there when Lutha died suddenly of a heart attack. They moved to San Angelo in 1941 to be with Wendland Manufacturing Co. Mae Deene was employed by the Central National Bank for 29 years. She was an honor graduate of the San Angelo Business College. On Feb. 14, 1987, she married Ellis H. Brooks. They were faithful members of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Ellis passed away May 7, 1995. She is survived by a daughter, Maxine Caskey Botelho of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Michele Heathman and Marcie Avrett, her husband, Bruce, and a great-granddaughter, Amy Melissa Heathman, all of San Antonio. JACKSON D.E. Jackson, 75, a prominent San Angelo businessman, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, in Shannon Medical Center following an automobile accident. D.E. was born June 20, 1922, in North Zulch, Madison County, Texas, to Gordon E. and Aubrey Vera Jackson. After high school graduation, D.E. joined the U.S. Air Force where he served 13 years, retiring in 1954, with the rank of master sergeant. At that time he moved back to San Angelo where he attended San Angelo Junior College and worked with his father in the construction business. After college, D.E. started Jackson Construction Co., building mostly single-family homes and light commercial buildings. A few years later he ventured into the motel business, buying and remodeling the Kimble Motel in Junction, Texas. Later he built and operated Jackson House Motor Lodge and The Inn of the West in San Angelo. D.E. built and operated the Jackson Apartments and was a partner in other apartment complexes in San Angelo and Ozona. D.E. was a member and served as president of the San Angelo Homebuilders Association and the San Angelo Hotel and Motel Association. He was a Mason and a Rotarian. In the late '70s, D.E. retired from the construction business and pursued the hobbies he loved: piloting his Beech Bonanza, hunting, fishing, ranching and spending quality time with his family. Not a man to be less than active, he returned to the construction business with Harwood Homes in 1992. The construction business and his ranch in Blackwell kept him young at heart and active until his death. D.E. is survived by his wife, Peggy Abbott Jackson; two sons, Larry Jackson and wife, Laura, of San Angelo and Brad Jackson and wife, Risa, of Round Rock; two daughters, Paige McMullan Ragsdale and husband, Joe Bob, of Sonora and Denisa McMullan Odiorne and husband, Lance, of Johnson City; three sisters, Sybil Taylor and husband, Elmer, and Delpha Castle, all of San Angelo, and Bonnie Stewart and husband, Garn, of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren, Jay Jackson and Greg Jackson, both of San Angelo, Lacy and Ashby Ragsdale of Sonora and Jennifer Jackson of Round Rock. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving in all capacities, including grand knight, district deputy and Knight of Year in 1996. He also was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his father, a son and a daughter. Andrew is survived by his wife, Tillie of Norton; a daughter, Joyce Hall of Prosper; two sons, Stephen Englert of Corpus Christi and Robert Englert of Norton; his mother, Minnie Englert of San Angelo; a sister, Evelyn Ashton of San Angelo; and six grandchildren.
