Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger with the Rev. Ben Hubert of the First Christian Church presiding. Vera was born June 11, 1917, to Frank and Myrtle Kump in Scott City, Kan. She married Floyd Ellis Hull in 1933. Vera was a resident of San Angelo since 1946. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Vera was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth and Roy Kump. She is survived by her son, Donald L. Hull and his wife, Norma, two grandchildren, Randy Hull and Kimberly Moore, all of Conway, Ark.; and one nephew, Mike Kump of Austin. Vera was a loving mother and grandmother and a good friend. ROBERT J. MOFFATT SHREVEPORT, La. - Robert J. Moffatt was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo., and grew up in Pecos County and San Antonio, Texas. He had resided in Shreveport since 1947. He died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Moffatt is survived by his wife, Margaret Fay Smith Moffatt; daughters, Mary Moffatt Clark of Houston and Margaret Moffatt Halliburton of San Antonio; sons, Charles D. Moffatt of Austin and Robert J. Moffatt Jr. of Shreveport; a sister-in-law and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond G. Pipken of San Angelo; and a brother-in-law, Gene Shurley of Sonora. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church. JOHN McKINLEY REED John McKinley Reed of San Angelo passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at his residence. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the funeral home chapel with Brent Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Robert Lee Cemetery. Mr. Reed was born May 23, 1947, in Monroe, La. He grew up in Silver, Texas, and graduated from Colorado High School in Colorado City. He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University. He served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972, and had four cruises in Vietnam. John worked for Becton Dickinson for 15 years and was with Shannon Health Systems for the last three years, most recently St. John's Campus. John married Nicki Smith on July 21, 1996, in Robert Lee. He is survived by his wife, Nicki Reed of San Angelo; his mother, Elizabeth Reed of Robert Lee; his sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Don Powell of Robert Lee; his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Judy Reed; his children, Aaron and Michelle Reed of Los Angeles; his stepson, Nick Smith of Frisco; nephews, Chris Walior of Lubbock, Michael Walior of Austin, Todd and Adam Reed of Dallas; three great-nephews, Bryan Walior of Lubbock and Stephen and Phillip Walior of Austin; and great niece, Danielle Walior of Lubbock. John was known for his rapid-fire wit, love of music and the easy way he made friends. MARGARET SHANE O'BRYAN AUSTIN - Margaret Shane O'Bryan, born May 7, 1946, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at the age of 51. Shane was born in San Angelo and lived in Big Lake until moving to Austin at the age of 10. She graduated from Austin High School and the University of Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph O'Bryan and sister, Sally O'Bryan Elliott. VIRGINIA B. `VIRGIE' WYATT Virginia B. ``Virgie'' Wyatt, 85, of San Angelo died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, in a local nursing home. Virgie was born June 14, 1912, to Joseph David Moore and Emma Sanders Moore in Burkett, Texas. She was a longtime resident of San Angelo and was active for many years in Joy Moon Sunday school class at First Baptist Church. She married Roy C. Wyatt on April 4, 1939, in Coleman, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1964. Virgie was also preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Gussie Cox and Leota Powers. She is survived by one daughter, Conda Voss and her husband, Worth Voss of San Angelo; an ex-son-in-law, Wayne Linder of Lubbock; two grandsons, Roy Wayne Linder of Lubbock and Jeffery Scott Linder of Grand Prairie; one granddaughter, Jill Elaine Linder of Pecos; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Elaine Linder of Waco and Pierson Wayne Parker of Pecos; and several nieces and nephews. Virgie will be remembered for her loving, kind spirit, her sense of humor and her strength in dealing with life's problems. Even when her health was failing, she was able to joke with us and laugh at herself. We will all remember how special she made Christmas for her family, how much she enjoyed the family reunions and how she loved big band and ragtime music. She just couldn't stay still when Charleston music came on, she even got out of her wheelchair last Christmas to show us that she could still do it. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. DR. WILTON N. JONES Wilton N. Jones, M.D., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, in Permian General Hospital in Andrews after a heart attack. Service for Dr. Jones, 73, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in San Angelo at Johnson's Funeral Home. Officiating will be longtime friends, the Rev. Russell Patrick, Th.D., of Big Spring, the Rev. Miller Robinson of Snyder and the Rev. Robert Hedges of San Angelo. Born May 2, 1924, in Mangum, Okla., he married Dr. Carolyn Blankenship Reed on May 26, 1985, in Big Spring. Jones served in the Army Infantry as an officer during World War II in the Eastern Theatre of Operations and earned the rank of first lieutenant. He returned home and earned his bachelor of science degree in 1947 from the University of Oklahoma and his master of science degree in 1949 and his doctor of medicine degree in 1951 from the University of Oklahoma. He was commissioned into the U.S. Army Medical Corps, Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco and completed his residency with the rank of major. He began his medical practice in Snyder in 1954 with the founding of Battenfield-Jones Hospital. For 28 years, he offered medical care to thousands of patients as family doctor, surgeon, obstetrician and caring counselor. After he retired from his practice in 1982, he went to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Big Spring to begin a new profession in addiction medicine. He sought further education and was one of the first to be board certified in addiction medicine by the American Society of Addition Medicine in 1986. He and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Reed, came to help in the establishment of River Crest Hospital in December 1987. He had great love, respect and devotion to the AA and the 12 Step community. His interests continued to expand as he entered private practice in San Angelo in 1993 in addition medicine, medical director San Angelo Detoxification Center, general psychiatry consultation for Texas Mental Health Outpatient Clinics in Winters and Sweetwater, Texas, 1993 to present. He focused attention on treatment and teaching in chemical dependency and pain management from 1995 to present, continuing to expand the number of people to whom he offered the helping hand of hope. In addition to his love of the practice of medicine, Dr. Jones was devoted to his family and loved sports. He was the team doctor for the Snyder Tigers during his tenure there. He played football for OU as well as in the Army. He transferred the love of sports to his children and grandchildren. He was closely involved with his children's and his grandchildren's different interests, including sports activities. He always encouraged them to be all they could be and to follow their dreams. He was a friend to his family as well as family to his friends. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Carolyn Reed Jones of San Angelo; three daughters, Penny Bane of Andrews, Becky Jones of Austin and Cindy Cone of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Tim Jones of Austin and Mark Reed of Grapevine; and eight grandchildren. A retired truck driver, Bill knew every highway from coast to coast, always ready to share a tale of his travels with others. He never met a stranger and had many friends. Mary provided a legacy of beautiful music throughout her life, having been a piano teacher and professional performance artist in the San Angelo area for most of her life. She was a long standing member of First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo and served as the organist there for almost 20 years. For the past 12 years she has been a resident of the Dallas and Fort Worth area and for 10 years she has been a performing pianist at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse in Dallas. Her music was her life and she dearly touched many people through this gift. She was deeply loved by those she left behind including her daughter and son-in-law, Kerry Sue and John Tonne; her son, Gary Gibbs; her grandchildren, Jason DeLap, Treshelle Gibbs, Jay Dean Baumann, Matthew Scott Tonne and Hayden Garrett Gibbs, as well as her great-grandchildren, Taylor DeLap, Tyler DeLap and Trevor Griffin. RAMSEY RANDOLPH JUNCTION - Jesse Ramsey Randolph, 89, of Junction died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, in a Fredericksburg hospital. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Copperas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Aubrey Fife Funerals. Ramsey was born in Junction, Texas, Aug. 27, 1908, the son of Frank LaMotte and Lena Estelle Randolph. He and Nellie Freelin Bennett were married June 21, 1933. Ramsey lived in Kimble County all his life and had been an active member of the Methodist Church since youth, having served in many capacities. He is a descendent of a pioneer family. His grandfather, Joseph Jackson Ramsey, came to Kimble County in the early 1870s. Ramsey attended the public schools of Kimble County through the eighth grade, then studied accounting and typing at home and at Draughon Business College. Later he made up some high school credits and took a correspondence course in law from LaSalle Extension University. Ramsey was employed by the Texas Highway Department until July 1927. About that time General Motors Corp. required its dealers to use its cost accounting system of bookkeeping. The local Chevrolet dealer, McDonald Chevrolet Co., employed him to assist in installing and keeping this system. From then until 1932 he worked as a bookkeeper most of the time. In 1932 he became a candidate for the office of county and district clerk of Kimble County. In the runoff primary held Aug. 27, 1932, his 24th birthday, he was declared the Democratic nominee for the office. He was sworn in on Jan. 1, 1933, and served four terms. After going out of the clerk's office in 1940, he was immediately employed by the Junction Independent School District as tax assessor-collector and business manager, where he served for 25 years before resigning. At the same time he went to work for the school district, he established a general insurance and land title business, which was continued until 1976 when it was sold. In 1948, Ramsey moved his family to the ranch where he resided until his death. His ranch was his first love. He had always been interested in community affairs and had served as director of the Chamber of Commerce, president of the Rotary Club, member of the Gasoline Rationing Board during World War II, was appointed chairman of the Kimble County Voluntary Parole Board by Gov. Price Daniel, and served on the board of supervisors of the Upper Llanos Soil and Water Conservation District. He is a past master of Junction City Lodge 548, AF&AM, helped organize the First State Bank and served on its board of directors. He is listed in Who's Who in the Southwest. In March 1997, he received his 65-year Masonic lodge pin. DAMRON MIDLAND - He was born Dec. 4, 1911, to M.G. and Goldie Damron in Midland, Texas. His family moved to Crane in 1926 and was instrumental in helping start the town. Mr. Damron graduated from Midland High School in 1928. He worked in all phases of the oil industry and ranching. Mr. Damron served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been a resident of Crane since 1926. Mr. Damron married Melba Cartwright on Dec. 4, 1940, in Odessa. She preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1987. Mr. Damron was a member of First Christian Church of McCamey. He was a 3rd degree Mason. Mr. Damron was preceded in death by a brother, R.L. Damron. He is survived by two sons, Joel E. He attended regular weekly meetings until 1990, when his health would no longer permit it. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, his parents and his sister, Mildred Hodges. DEL RIO - Robert Cauthorn Jr., 82, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, in Del Rio. Mr. Cauthorn was the husband of Alice Overstreet Cauthorn, his wife of 62 years. He was born in Snyder, Texas, on Nov. 29, 1914, to Robert and Virginia Justice Cauthorn. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter and son-in-law, Junior and Ed Esquivel of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Ann Cauthorn of San Marcos, son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kay Cauthorn of Del Rio; grandchildren, James and Jenny Esquivel, Audrey and John Schmit, and Sandi Esquivel, all of Dallas, Todd Cauthorn of San Marcos, Kate Cauthorn of Atlanta, Ga., Sid and Kim Cauthorn and Guy and Keri Cauthorn, all of Del Rio; and great-grandchildren, Drew and Sidney Cauthorn and Abb and Hattie Cauthorn of Del Rio. Virgil Cauthorn of Del Rio is his surviving brother along with cousins, Mac Ward of Sonora, Ora Riggs of Sanderson, Blanche Smith and Jim Bob Altizer of Del Rio, and numerous nephews and nieces. Robert Cauthorn was a rancher in the Juno community all of his life. He also served as a Val Verde county commissioner during the 1950s, was a member of the Del Rio Independent School District School Board, Juno Independent School Board and director of the Val Verde County Race Association. Mr. Cauthorn was also instrumental in bringing cable television to Del Rio by being an officer and director of the Del Rio TV Cable Company. He was also president of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Del Rio and San Marcos during the 1970s and 1980s and vice president and director of Texas Osage Royalty Pool Inc., of San Angelo. Pallbearers are grandsons, Todd Cauthorn, James Esquivel, John Schmit, Lowell Sands, Sid Cauthorn and Guy Cauthorn and friends, Juan Felipe Rueda and Fred Clayton. Louie Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. She died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, in Lubbock where she had lived for two years. She was born Jan. 17, 1908, in Goldthwaite, Texas. She graduated from Breckenridge High School and attended San Angelo Business College, where she taught some classes. Later she was a bookkeeper for Gunter Wholesale Co. Maurine was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church. She married Wesley Evans on May 5, 1928, in Mertzon. Most of her life was dedicated to being a homemaker. She and her husband were a pioneer ranching family in West Texas and later in Colorado. He died June 6, 1989. Maurine was also preceded in death by her younger daughter, Jean, who was an accomplished musician and teacher. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kathryn Taylor of Muleshoe, Texas; three granddaughters, Mrs. Karen Dickens of Lovington, N.M., Mrs. Rhea Marrs of Slidell, La., and Mrs. Cristal Isaacks of Levelland, Texas; and four great-grandsons.
