He was born Sept. 20, 1923, the son of Sadie and J.E. Dankworth, who preceded him in death.Jimmy graduated from Ballinger High School in 1943 and entered the armed services, where he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He returned to Ballinger and married Dorothy Miller on Jan. 3, 1947. He entered business with his father, J.E. Dankworth, and his uncle, Cap Middleton, in the C.O.D. Grocery. He later established the Dankworth Packing Co. in 1959, a family business now managed by his son, Michael Dankworth.Jimmy was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Ballinger, where he provided leadership on various committees including the Administrative Board, the board of trustees and the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee. A particular interest and concern of Jimmy's was the preservation and sustenance of health care to the residents of Ballinger and the surrounding area. He served until his death as chairman of the board of Ballinger Memorial Hospital and was a key figure in the establishment of the South Runnels Hospital District. He also initiated the discussions that led to a durable affiliation with Shannon Health System in San Angelo.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law, Jake Henry Jr., of Corpus Christi; his son, Michael, and his fiancee, Barbara Green, of Ballinger; his granddaughter, Christie Majors of Austin; his granddaughter, Ami Henry of Lubbock; his sister, Eloise Loika of San Angelo; and his brother, Milton Dankworth of Anchorage, Alaska.Jimmy was a loyal, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He valued relationships, was a friend to many and took great joy in helping others. He was a highly principled man who believed in fairness and forthrightness. He was a tireless worker who understood the importance of detail.After retirement, he took great pleasure in golfing with his friends. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Kenley was born Aug. 21, 1901, in Nogalus Prairie, Trinity County, Texas, to Sam F. and Dona (Womack) Kenley. After moving to West Texas for his father's health, the family ranched in the Mertzon, Christoval and Eldorado areas. He permanently moved with his family to San Angelo in 1919, the year of his father's death from tuberculosis. He attended high school in San Angelo, working after school at the Coca- Cola bottling plant, which also housed a milk bottling and ice cream plant. Graduating from SAHS in 1921, he entered Abilene Christian College and studied journalism. After two years, he returned to San Angelo as manager of the milk plant. After a year and a half, he left to begin his career in insurance. In 1926, he joined the Horton & Chapman Insurance Firm, which later became Horton & Yaggy Insurance. He married Fanelle Myers on Aug. 20, 1932, the year he became a partner in the firm of Horton, Yaggy & Kenley. In addition to focusing on his business, he was vitally interested in the growth of San Angelo. His civic involvement was varied. He had been a member of the Lions Club since 1925, and at the time of his death was the oldest and longest tenured member of the Downtown Lions Club. He also was one of the first organizers of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the 1930s. In 1942, he was appointed to the Board of City Development and subsequently served several terms as a board member and then served as its president in 1961. He was involved in the development of numerous West Texas highway projects, serving as president of both the Highway 67 and Highway 87 Associations. He was subsequently honored with the Road Hand Award given by the chairman of the Texas Highway Commission for his nearly 40 years of devotion to Texas highways. Mr. Kenley, along with Elsie Gayer and C.A. Duncan, was one of the founders of Memorials Hospital, which began as a tuberculosis hospital, and later became Baptist Memorials. He was instrumental in bringing the Goodyear Tire Test Station to San Angelo and was one of the organizers and owners of the San Angelo Colts baseball team, which later became a farm team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He served as president of West Texas Packing Co. and Continental Fidelity Life Insurance Co. He helped start Texas Tank Car Works, served as secretary-treasurer of San Angelo Abstract, and was a director of both Central National Bank and San Angelo Electric Service Co. In addition to his work and civic service, his favorite pastimes were growing vegetables and raising livestock on his farm at Christoval, and enjoying the company of his friends of that town, especially the members of the Ben Keyes Bible Class of the Christoval United Methodist Church. He ``went to the farm'' every day as long as his health allowed. Survivors include one brother, Raymond of Houston; sisters-in-law, Hazel Kenley of San Angelo and Elliotte Kenley of Lubbock; his daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Roger Dolliver of San Angelo; four nephews; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kenley and Alissa Dolliver of San Angelo, Elise and Scott Whyte of Paradise Valley, Ariz., and John and Leslie Dolliver of Austin; and his great-grandchildren, Harrison Myers Whyte of Paradise Valley and Anna Katherine Dolliver of Austin. At the time of his death, he was president, chairman and CEO of Sanderson State Bank and had worked in that position since March 1979. He had been partners with Glenn Biggs of San Antonio, Jack Griggs of Abilene and Jimmie Powell of Fort McKavett in Southwest Bancorp Inc. since their purchase of Sanderson State Bank. Jim had served on several bank boards and at the time of his death was serving on the Board of Directors of Citizens State Bank in Cross Plains as well as Sanderson State Bank. He also was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Independent Bankers of Texas. Jim was a member of the Church of Christ. Jim is survived by his wife; a son, Miller and his wife, Deanna, of Van; and a daughter, Amy McAlister and her husband, Kyle, and two granddaughters, Maggie Sue McAlister and Macy McAlister, all of San Antonio. He was known as Papa to Maggie Sue and Macy. GORDON KENLEY Gordon Kenley, 96, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, in Meadow Creek Nursing Home. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Kenley was born Aug. 21, 1901, in Nogalus Prairie, Trinity County, Texas, to Sam F. and Dona (Womack) Kenley. After moving to West Texas for his father's health, the family ranched in the Mertzon, Christoval and Eldorado areas. He permanently moved with his family to San Angelo in 1919, the year of his father's death from tuberculosis. He attended high school in San Angelo, working after school at the Coca-Cola Bottling plant, which also housed a milk-bottling and ice-cream plant. Graduating from SAHS in 1921, he entered Abilene Christian College and studied journalism. After two years, he returned to San Angelo as manager of the milk plant. After a year and a half, he left to begin his career in insurance. In 1926, he joined the Horton & Chapman Insurance Firm, which later became Horton & Yaggy Insurance. He married Fanelle Myers on Aug. 20, 1932, the year he became a partner in the firm of Horton, Yaggy & Kenley. In addition to focusing on his business, he was vitally interested in the growth of San Angelo. His civic involvement was varied. He had been a member of the Lions Club since 1925, and at the time of his death was the oldest and longest tenured member of the Downtown Lions Club. He also was one of the first organizers of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in the 1930s. In 1942 he was appointed to the Board of City Development and subsequently served several terms as a board member and then served as its president in 1961. He was involved in the development of numerous West Texas highway projects, serving as president of both the Highway 67 and Highway 87 Associations. He was subsequently honored with the Road Hand Award given by the chairman of the Texas Highway Commission for his nearly 40 years of devotion to Texas highways. Mr. Kenley, along with Elsie Gayer and C.A. Duncan, was one of the founders of Memorials Hospital, which began as a tuberculosis hospital, and later became Baptist Memorials. He was instrumental in bringing the Goodyear Tire Test Station to San Angelo and was one of the organizers and owners of the San Angelo Colts baseball team, which later became a farm team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He served as president of West Texas Packing Co. and Continental Fidelity Life Insurance Co. He helped start Texas Tank Car Works, served as secretary-treasurer of San Angelo Abstract, and was a director of both Central National Bank and San Angelo Electric Service Co. In addition to his work and civic service, his favorite pastimes were growing vegetables and raising livestock on his farm at Christoval, and enjoying the company of his friends of that town, especially the members of the Ben Keyes Bible Class of the Christoval United Methodist Church. He ``went to the farm'' every day as long as his health allowed. Services are pending at Geeslin Funeral Home. ______________________________________________________________ BARNETT E. `ELVIS' SINGLETON Barnett E. ``Elvis'' Singleton of San Angelo passed from this life at age 75 on Friday, Dec. 19, 1997. Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Elvis was born March 21, 1922, in De Leon, Texas, to Henry Oscar Singleton and Maggie Ophelia Kidd. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, and he retired from Civil Service at Goodfellow Air Force Base in 1984. He married Maybelle Walker on Sept. 6, 1947, in Carlsbad, N.M. Elvis and Maybelle moved to San Angelo in March of 1951. Elvis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with many loving friends. All will miss his joy for living. He loved deer hunting with friends and relatives and worked around the house. Elvis was preceded in death by his father and mother; and a brother, Pete Singleton. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Maybelle, of the home; one son, Lee Singleton and his wife, Carolyn, of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Singleton of Houston and Eric Lee Singleton of San Angelo; one great-grandson, his pride and joy, Billy Singleton of San Angelo; one brother, Oscar and his wife, Rachel, of Loraine, Texas; one sister, Pauline Thorpe and her husband, O.T., of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two nephews. She was a member of Centro Cristiano Emanuel and was a homemaker. She is survived by four sons, Ramon Rodriguez Jr. of Dallas, Daniel Rodriguez of Lockhart, and Ernest Rodriguez and Robert Carmona, both of San Angelo; three daughters, Naomi Garcia of San Jose, Calif., and Ruth Rodriguez and Hope Allen, both of San Angelo; a brother, Jose Zapata of San Angelo; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. We love you, mother and grandmother. OLGA WENDLAND KLOESEL Olga Wendland Kloesel, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, in a local hospital after a brief illness. Olga was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Lowake, the only daughter of Richard and Ernestine Jeschke Wendland. On Nov. 28, 1933, Olga married Robert Kloesel at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. To this union was born one daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Kloesel were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena and were instrumental in developing St. Thomas Catholic Church in Miles. They farmed in the Lowake community until 1979 when they moved to San Angelo, where they were members of Holy Angels Catholic Church. Olga was a homemaker. Olga was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, August, Richard, Alfred and Alex; and her son-in-law, Benard Toby Colbaugh. Olga is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie Colbaugh of San Angelo;a number of sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Per Olga's request, there will be no public service.
