She lived in the Olfen community most of her life and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church prior to moving to Rowena and becoming a member of St. Joseph's. Lois Gove was born Nov. 1, 1907, in Kimble County to W.T. and Nancy Elizabeth Cardwell Jarvis. She attended schools in Junction, Kimble County and Brownwood. In 1927, she graduated from the College of Industrial Arts in Denton with a bachelor of science degree in kindergarten primary education. Mrs. Gove met and married M.W. ``Penn'' Gove in Austin in 1929. They moved to Kimble County near London in 1963 where Mrs. Gove continued to teach first grade in Junction Primary School. She retired in 1973 after having taught for 30 years in Austin, May, Sealy, Deer Park and Junction schools. The Goves were active members of the First United Methodist Church in London until they moved to Junction in 1986. They also were active in the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star most of their married life. After moving to Kimble County, they joined the Shrine Club in addition to continuing their membership in the London Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Mrs. Gove was a member of the Dorcas Circle of the First United Methodist Church of Junction and of the La Junta Study Club. She volunteered at the Kimble County Library reading to the children at story hour and covering library books. She continued to be an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma teaching fraternity and received recognition for 25 years of membership in 1983. Mr. Gove preceded Mrs. Gove in death in 1995 after 65 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Jean Porter of Austin and Nancy Gove Neal and husband, Bobby, of College Station. ROCKSPRINGS - Jack Nichols Whitworth Jr. of Rocksprings passed away on Dec. 29, 1997, at his home. He was born in Rocksprings on Jan. 23, 1907. Jack was a 1929 graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He returned to Rocksprings and taught Spanish for two years before joining his father in the ranching business. On Nov. 17, 1939, he married Margarine Powell of Center Point. They were married for almost 53 years at the time of her death in 1991. During his lifetime on the ranch, he was active in his church, serving in many capacities. He was also on the local school board for several years. Jack enjoyed singing and listening to his wife play the piano. Margie finally convinced Jack to travel with her. Together they traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many European countries. Their love of travel and people brought both of them many fond memories. Survivors include one daughter, Laura Langley of Elizabeth, Colo.; one son, Jack Whitworth III of Rocksprings; four grandchildren, Kit Grabbe and Kim Grabbe and Jack Whitworth IV and Jennifer Whitworth; two great-granddaughters, Lillian River and Mary Rose Whitworth; and a host of friends.
