Mark was born on April 13, 1954, in San Angelo to Cal and Bernadene Henderson. Wilma was the last survivor of a pioneer family that came to Crockett County in 1890. She had two brothers, Wayne and Robert Massie, and one sister, Alice West Baker. The true pioneer spirit brought this family to settle in Crockett County and Val Verde County. Wilma's mother and grandparents, Sam and Alice Smith, helped organize Ozona and also the First Baptist Church. Wilma attended school in Juno and Ozona. She graduated valedictorian of the 1918 class of Ozona High School and attended Baylor University. She married Ira Melosent Carson Dec. 29, 1920. Ira Carson preceded Wilma in death March 7, 1975. Ira and Wilma lived on a ranch north of Ozona and later moved to Val Verde County in 1923. She was active in several organizations, contributing much to the community through her work in the First Baptist Church, Parent-Teacher Association, Music Club, Garden Club, the Historical Society and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, tracing back to a fifth cousin to Sam Houston. The love of her family was shown through photography, making many pictures of family and historical interests. Some of the pictures were used in the History of Crockett County Book. Wilma wrote a book in 1966 called ``Ozona.'' The profits benefited the Crockett County Historical Society and the Fort Lancaster Development Society. She was in the process of gathering materials to publish a second book on wild flowers when she became ill. All who knew Wilma remember many programs she gave with slides of her travels and flowers. The artistic talent was reflected in her oil paintings. Wilma's patriotic pride still showed when she voted in the primary election at the age of 93. Ira and Wilma Carson had three children who survive her, Crystelle Carson Childress and husband, James R. Childress (deceased), Eloise Carson Clegg and husband, W.R. Clegg, and William James ``Bill'' Carson and wife, Norma Champion Carson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Bob Childress, Carmen Sutton, Bill Carson Jr., Bonnie Baldridge and Chris Beckham; great- grandchildren, Ira Childress, Clay Childress, Heather Hill, Cody Sutton, Stefny Sutton, Julie Lawford, Haley and Chelsey Najar, Amanda Carson, Barbi Sprinkle, Brook Culbertson, B.J. Elmo Carrie ``Bill'' Ruhmann was born on Oct. 27, 1912, in Kaufman County. He attended public school in Ballinger and two years at Texas Tech University. He worked for the Texas Highway Department in South Texas and the Panhandle for several years and was employed as a civil engineer for the U.S. Navy in 1940. He was stationed in Panama City, Panama, until 1946, when he accepted a position of civil engineer with Socony Vacuum (later known as Mobil Oil Co.) in Barinas, Venezuela. Mr. Ruhmann married Elowiese Irvin of Ballinger on Dec. 12, 1948, moving to Midland in 1949. He was employed by Buddy Johnson Construction Co. until 1955, when he joined Collins Construction Co. Bill was preceded in death by two children, Loudene Katherine and Phillip Louis; and his three brothers, John Phillip, Turner and Louis Ruhmann. CHARLES PATRICK GREEN Charles Patrick Green, 93, passed away Sunday morning, May 17, 1998. He was born Jan. 14, 1905, in Taft, Tenn., to Noble and Josie Green. After residing in Rockdale until 1928, he moved to San Angelo to begin his career with the U.S. Postal Service for the following 35 years. He married Margaret Jo Franks on Nov. 24, 1932. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 1981. He also was preceded in death by his two brothers, Aaron and Malcolm Green; and one sister, Katherine Marshall. Mr. Green was an avid sportsman, fisherman and story teller. He was known to his friends as ``Catfish Charlie'' and to his family as ``Pi.'' She moved to Sonora in 1938 with the first oil field hands to arrive in Sutton County. She lived with her family in the McDonald Hotel until company housing could be provided at the Texas-New Mexico camp on Fort McKavett Road. Nancy graduated from Sonora High School and immediately enrolled in the telegrapher school in Springfield, Mo. She was hired by Western Union in Fort Stockton, where her main job was to send the daily parts lists for the planes of Fort Stockton Army Air Base by telegraph. Also, prior to her marriage, she was employed by the Wickett Refinery. Inmid-1945, she rode the train to California and married W.F. Berger, her high school sweetheart, who was in the Seabees stationed at Long Beach. Mr. Berger preceded her in death in 1971. Nancy married L.P. Bloodworth on Dec. 13, 1974, in Del Rio. Together they founded the Shalako Ranch Co., raising finewool sheep and feeder calves. To her first marriage were born two sons, Christie D. Berger and Larry J. Berger, who survive her. Also surviving are three stepsons, Buck Bloodworth, Bert Bloodworth and Lee Bloodworth; four daughters-in-law; three granddaughters; six grandsons; one great-grandson; one brother, Jack S. Obituaries JOHN CALVIN SMITH John Calvin Smith was born in Fort Cobb, Okla., on April 7, 1930. He passed away at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at the age of 68 of lung cancer. He entered the Air Force in 1952, retiring at Whiteman Air Force Base in 1972. He served with the U.S. Occupational Forces in Germany and France, and provided support to our troops in Vietnam while serving in the Philippines, Taiwan and many other assignments. He earned numerous awards and commendations, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation and Meritorious Service Medal. Obituaries BERTHA LUCILLE MARBUT Bertha Lucille Marbut, 72, of San Angelo passed away Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at her residence. Bertha was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Pineville, La., to the Rev. James A. and Anna Jones. She married Virgil P. Marbut on April 5, 1947, in Glenmora, La. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years on Oct. 25, 1997. Bertha was an employee of Ethicon for 23 years, retiring in 1987. Bertha is survived by one daughter, Janice Cook and her husband, Virgil, twin sons, Gary and Larry Marbut, all of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Cattie Grimes and Stevie Marbut of Christoval; two brothers, the Rev.
