Pearson of Garland passed away on Saturday, May 23, 1998. She was born June 9, 1939, in Pecos. She grew up in San Angelo and worked nearly 30 years in the College Bookstore business both as a textbook buyer and for the past five years as manager of the bookstore at the University of Texas at Dallas. She was a member of the New World United Methodist Church in Garland. She is survived by her husband, William E. Pearson Jr.; sons, Jerry Don Blevins of San Angelo and Michael Dane Blevins of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; her mother, Alma ``Peggy'' Thornton of Fort Worth; a brother, Gene Thornton of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Jamie Blevins, Tammie Blevins and Tonya Blevins, all of Odessa; and grandson, Victor Blevins of San Angelo. Arrangements are by Restland Funeral Home. RAYMOND VERNON HART Raymond Hart was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Fort Worth. He died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at his home in San Angelo. He spent his early years in Fort Worth public schools, attending Tech Vocational High School for two years and then graduating from Polytechnic High School. Raymond also attended Texas A&M University and the University of Texas, where he took machine shop technical instruction and related subjects. Raymond worked at the machine shop trade in Fort Worth and later in Tulsa, Okla. From Tulsa, he later returned to Fort Worth where he was hired by a former instructor to become the head instructor at Tech High School. During World War II, he was an instructor for Consolidated Air-Craft, instructing new war trainees. In 1947, Raymond moved his family to San Angelo and with partners, established the San Angelo Die Casting and Manufacturing Co. Inc., with 58 products and approximately 156 varieties sold nationally and in several foreign countries. He was president of the company for 34 years. In 1981, he sold the San Angelo company and began retirement. Raymond formerly served on the San Angelo City Planning Board. He was a director at San Angelo National Bank, later Texas Commerce Bank, for 17 years. He was a faithful member of Southland Baptist Church. Raymond was a longtime active member at the San Angelo Country Club, contributing in many ways through the years. He was the club's president and served several terms as club director. He won the SACC Championship five times. Raymond worked extensively with the Texas Golf Association and USGA course ratings and was a director for the Texas Senior Men's Golf Association. He enjoyed gentlemanly competition and often was referred to as ``Mr. Golf'' by many fellow golfers. He played every day except Sunday and Monday after his retirement. He had to his credit 13 holes-in-one and shot his age 404 times from age 70 to 83. He preceded each round of golf with a practice on the range and followed each round with practice. He often was heard saying he enjoyed ``practice'' as much as he did playing. Raymond Hart was preceded in death by his first wife, Olive Ruth Hart. He is survived by his present wife, Elizabeth Sterley Hart (Hote); a sister, Edythe Ivey of Fort Worth; and two children, Ray Hart Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Tennessee Colony and Carole Pruitt and her husband, Richard, of Idalou. He also is survived by two stepdaughters, Jennifer Walker of Dallas and Claudia Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Richard Hart, Leslie Hart, Christy Henson, Jim Ray Pruitt, Kimberly Pruitt, Meredith Walker, Andrew Walker, Alison Taylor and Alicia Taylor; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews who loved and admired him greatly for his gentleness. Raymond was a very quiet, gentle man who never was known to be angry. Raymond was a steadfast, loyal and very loving husband and father. His quiet presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A short time later, they decided to retire and raise their family in Texas. Ellen was always involved in the lives of her children and later her grandchildren. Granny Jo, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren and their friends, was a regular supporter of band concerts, basketball and baseball games, track meets and 4-H events. Ellen's love for sewing and quilting was enhanced by a wonderful group of women at the Concho Valley Quilt Guild and the Sierra Vista Methodist Church Piecemakers that she quilted with several days each week. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. WILLIAM LEA HARRISON William Lea Harrison died Wednesday morning, May 27, 1998, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Fort Worth. After graduation from San Angelo High School, he entered the Navy Seabees, where he served during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he joined his father and brother at Harrison Roofing Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1991. On June 15, 1947, he married Maxine Hennersdorf of Lubbock and they made their home in San Angelo. Having three children, they were both involved in many school activities. After retiring, William Lea focused his attention on volunteering with Shannon Medical Center Auxiliary and with Meals for the Elderly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Harrison Sr. and his brother, O.D. Harrison Jr. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, and children, Ronny and wife, Carol, David and fiancee, Katie Anderson, and Jan Drake, and husband, Phil. Obituaries ELLEN JO (SLAUGHTER) TAYLOR Ellen Jo (Slaughter) Taylor, 63, died Monday, May 25, 1998, in San Angelo. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. She was born July 23, 1934, in Phoenix to William Marvin and Alice Slaughter. She married Joe Frank Taylor on July 22, 1955, in Phoenix. After a ``career'' as an Air Force wife, Ellen and Joe moved to San Angelo in 1972. A short time later, they decided to retire and raise their family in Texas. Ellen was always involved in the lives of her children and later her grandchildren. Granny Jo, as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren and their friends, was a regular supporter of band concerts, basketball and baseball games, track meets and 4-H events. Ellen's love for sewing and quilting was enhanced by a wonderful group of women at the Concho Valley Quilt Guild and the Sierra Vista Methodist Church Piecemakers that she quilted with several days each week. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. WILLIAM LEA HARRISON William Lea Harrison died Wednesday morning, May 27, 1998, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 7, 1925, in Fort Worth. After graduation from San Angelo High School, he entered the Navy Seabees, where he served during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he joined his father and brother at Harrison Roofing Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1991. On June 15, 1947, he married Maxine Hennersdorf of Lubbock and they made their home in San Angelo. Having three children, they were both involved in many school activities. After retiring, William Lea focused his attention on volunteering with Shannon Medical Center Auxiliary and with Meals for the Elderly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Harrison Sr. and his brother, O.D. Harrison Jr. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, and children, Ronny and wife, Carol, David and fiancee, Katie Anderson, and Jan Drake, and husband, Phil. Five grandchildren survive, including Clint Harrison of Austin, Jeremy Harrison and wife, Amy, of San Angelo, Laura Harrison and Julie Harrison of San Angelo and Sunny Drake of Millersview. Obituaries MARY LaVERTA SCOTT Mary LaVerta Scott, 86, of San Angelo passed away Saturday, May 30, 1998, in a local hospital. LaVerta was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Fort Stockton to Edna and Jess Moore. After LaVerta's mother passed away, LaVerta, her sister and her brothers were raised by their grandparents, Mary and Andrew Foster, on a ranch northwest of Carlsbad, N.M. She graduated from Artesia High School in Artesia, N.M. On March 19, 1932, LaVerta married Tom Scott in Carlsbad. They were married 57 years until his death in 1989. In 1992, LaVerta moved to San Angelo to be close to her sons, and she resided at Meadow Creek Nursing Center. LaVerta is survived by two sons, Thomas Scott Jr. and wife, Oneta, and Wayne Scott, all of San Angelo; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; a daughter-in-law, Margie Lou Scott; one sister, Eula; two brothers, Clyde and Roy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hilton, 85, a resident of San Angelo for more than 50 years, passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, May 29, 1998. Lois was born on Jan. 29, 1913, in Wichita Falls to Ada Priscilla Owens and William Newton Malone. She was married to Irving Roberts and later to Oscar Hilton. Lois is survived by her three grandsons, Randall Roberts and his wife, Robin, of Austin, Ronnie Roberts of Honolulu and Richard Robert of Waikoloa, Hawaii; brother, Wallace Malone; and niece, Laura Wilson. She also remained very close to her former daughter-in-law, Helena Tibbs and her husband, John, of Honolulu, who were by her side during her final hours. She was a retired employee of the San Angelo Center in Carlsbad. During her long life in San Angelo she worked at numerous establishments, including Myers Drugstore. Graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Craig Meyers officiating. ROBERT `BOB' MOSER Robert ``Bob'' Moser, 93, of San Angelo passed away Saturday, May 30, 1998, at his residence. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harry Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Moser was born Jan. 2, 1905, in Comanche, Okla. He moved with his parents to Tom Green County in January of 1908 at the age of three. He owned and operated a sand, gravel and building material company on East 19th Street for more than 40 years. Mr. Moser was preceded in death by his wife, Mignon, and two sons, Thomas R. and Arvin Jay Moser. Survivors include one son, Bill Moser and wife, De Aun, of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Janet D. Moser Demetro of Fort Worth, Lori Moser of Amarillo and R.M.
