Wesley was born Oct. 9, 1930, to V.J. and Annie Mokry in Granger. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran in the Korean War Conflict. He was one of only six survivors of the shipwreck at Yellow Harbor on Jan. 21, 1954. After completing his tour of duty he returned home to marry his one true love, Earlene Wilde of Wall on May 1, 1956. They were members of St. Ambrose Catholic Church at Wall, and he was a charter member of the Wall Knights of Columbus. They farmed together at Veribest, then later gave up farming and with their five daughters, moved to Abilene. It was there that Wesley began his career in road construction. He worked for Abilene Paving Co., and while he was with them he was most proud of his following accomplishments: his participation on the crew that constructed the Dallas turnpike and later being foreman of the crew that constructed Antilley Road in Abilene when expansion toward Wylie was growing rapidly. He later retired from Abilene Paving but knew the need to work with God's great earth was still in him. He bought a dump truck and a backhoe and contracted out to clear land for further development. One of Wesley's greatest hobbies was gardening. His huge home garden was admired by many a friend and stranger. Seldom did anyone leave his home after a visit without a bag of home grown vegetables in hand. He loved life and shared it fully with his children and grandchildren. Obituaries WESLEY FRANK MOKRY ABILENE - Wesley Frank Mokry, 67, went to meet the Lord at 5 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. He worked for Abilene Paving Co. and while he was with them he was most proud of his following accomplishments: his participation on the crew that constructed the Dallas turnpike and later being foreman of the crew that constructed Antilley Road in Abilene when expansion toward Wylie was growing rapidly. He later retired from Abilene Paving but knew the need to work with God's great earth was still in him. He bought a dump truck and a backhoe and contracted out to clear land for further development. One of Wesley's greatest hobbies was gardening. His huge home garden was admired by many a friend and stranger. Seldom did anyone leave his home after a visit without a bag of home-grown vegetables in hand. He loved life and shared it fully with his children and grandchildren. His love of family and his faith in God was what sustained him through all his suffering as his body began to fail him. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Earlene Wilde Mokry; and his daughters and sons- in-law, Deborah Greenwood of Abilene, Virginia and Rhome Hill and Cordelia and Benny Kothmann, all of Menard, Carol and John Halfmann of San Angelo and Aloma and Gordon Asbury III of Abilene.
