One year later they had a daughter together. Living in Brady for 37 years, Billy Ray enjoyed having family get-togethers, barbecuing and spending time with his grandkids. Dr. Landy opened his first office in 1948 in the former McBurnett Building in downtown San Angelo and over the next four decades established one of the largest medical practices in the Concho Valley. He was devoted to his patients and his profession, and his contributions were chronicled in a letter to the Standard-Times editor signed by more than 25 Shannon Hospital nurses on the occasion of his ``unofficial'' retirement in 1988: ``Through the long hours for these many years, you have always had a moment to offer a word of wisdom, a helping hand, or a warm smile for we who carry out orders and bedpans. You have blessed us with your knowledge, kindness, patience, encouragement and cooperation. You have taught us simply by allowing us to watch you go about your life's work - the love and care of humanity.'' Dr. Landy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Aug. 10, 1908, the son of Alexander and Rachael Landy. He went to school in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1933. Dr. Landy served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1946 and retired as a major. During his tenure, he was in charge of communicable and chest diseases of the 125th General Hospital stationed in England and also Hammond General Hospital, Modesto, Calif. Other duties were performed at Pomona Ordnance Base, Calif., and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. His civilian medical career continued at the Army Navy General Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark., and he was employed by the Veterans Administration as chest specialist at Asheville, N.C.; Saranac Lake, N.Y.; and Pittsburgh. After finishing residencies in internal medicine at the University of Southern California and the VA Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., Dr.Landy moved his family to San Angelo in 1948 and opened his medical practice in internal medicine. Dr. Landy was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, Texas Society of Internal Medicine and was board certified by the American College of Chest Physicians. He also was past director of the West Angelo Kiwanis Club. Dr. Landy was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Glenn Landy, on Nov. 21, 1994, and by his sister, Beatrice Stein of Cleveland. Dr. Landy was a caring and committed father. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and GiGi Landy of Southlake, Texas; son, Ray Landy of Palo Alto, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Pam Landy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Steve and Marge Landy of Lewisville, Texas; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Ann and Milton Boswell of Austin; and a half brother and his wife, Sol Levin and Ruth Levin of Pittsburgh. After finishing residencies in internal medicine at the University of Southern California and the VA Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., Dr. Landy moved his family to San Angelo in 1948 and opened his medical practice in internal medicine. Dr. Landy was a member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, Texas Society of Internal Medicine and was board certified by the American College of Chest Physicians. He also was past director of the West Angelo Kiwanis Club. Dr. Landy was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Glenn Landy on Nov. 21, 1994, and by his sister, Beatrice Stein of Cleveland. Dr. Landy was a caring and committed father. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and GiGi Landy of Southlake, Texas; son, Ray Landy of Palo Alto, Calif.; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Pam Landy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Steve and Marge Landy of Lewisville, Texas; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Ann and Milton Boswell of Austin; and a half brother and his wife, Sol Levin and Ruth Levin of Pittsburgh. Survivors also include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered by thousands of patients he had treated and cared for over 64 years in loving service. EVORAH `PENNY' SAUNDERS On Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, God granted eternal peace to our loving mother, Evorah ``Penny'' Saunders. Evorah was born in Garland, Okla., to Herman and Mamie Howard on Jan. 17, 1932. Evorah was preceded in death by her husband, A.V.; her parents; an infant daughter, Edwina; and one sister, Jean. Landy, 90, a San Angelo physician for more than 50 years, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998. Graveside service will be at noon Tuesday, Sept. 8, in Fairmount Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Murray J. Dr. Landy opened his first office in 1948 in the former McBurnett Building in downtown San Angelo and over the next four decades established one of the largest medical practices in the Concho Valley. He was devoted to his patients and his profession, and his contributions were chronicled in a letter to the Standard-Times editor signed by more than 25 Shannon Hospital nurses on the occasion of his ``unofficial'' retirement in 1988: ``Through the long hours for these many years, you have always had a moment to offer a word of wisdom, a helping hand, or a warm smile for we who carry out orders and bedpans. You have blessed us with your knowledge, kindness, patience, encouragement and cooperation. You have taught us simply by allowing us to watch you go about your life's work - the love and care of humanity.'' Dr. Landy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Aug. 10, 1908, the son of Alexander and Rachael Landy. He went to school in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He received his medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1933. Dr. Landy served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1946 and retired as a major. During his tenure, he was in charge of communicable and chest diseases of the 125th General Hospital stationed in England and also Hammond General Hospital, Modesto, Calif. Other duties were performed at Pomona Ordnance Base, Calif., and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. His civilian medical career continued at the Army Navy General Hospital, Hot Springs, Ark., and he was employed by the Veterans Administration as chest specialist at Asheville, N.C.; Saranac Lake, N.Y.; and Pittsburgh.
