He was born Sept. 14, 1911, in Maypearl. He was a minister and evangelist, chief engineer of the Pecos Valley Power and Light Co. and superintendent of the WTU plant. Evans, 68, went to be with the Lord Oct. 6, 1998. Mr. Evans died at home after a brief illness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Kyle. Mr. Evans was a veteran of the Korean War. After leaving the service, he spent 42 years as a successful businessman in San Angelo. He was the owner and operator of Timely Finance Company Inc. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his first wife of 19 years, W. Ruth Evans. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Cissy was born in Dallas on Feb. 11, 1919, to Earl and Lucille Sloan Bradberry. She attended school in Dallas and Beaumont. Cissy was a registered nurse, had served in the Army Air Corps and most recently was a restaurant manager. She married Thomas Woodle Garrett on April 30, 1949. She was a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher, life member of the Texas PTA and a member of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered in San Angelo as manager of the South Chadbourne Dairy Queen, her work with the PTA, American Cancer Society, Republican National Committee, past president of San Angelo Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association, chaplain at local hospitals and as a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Guild. Cissy was preceded in death by her husband, Tom. Survivors include three sons, John Thomas Garrett of Harlingen, Nolan Wayne Garrett of Waco and David Taylor Garrett of Brownwood; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister, Merle June Krepper; two brothers, Fred Neumann of Beaumont and Charles Neumann of Groves; and numerous nieces and nephews. In her 1936 Woodrow Wilson High School yearbook, written above her name is ``A girl who never wears a frown, the friend of everyone in town.'' Amen. VICKY PIERCE MILLER OZONA - Vicky Pierce Miller, 80, of Ozona died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at her beloved ranch in Crockett County. Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home. Vicky was born Oct. 21, 1917, to Crockett County pioneer family Victor I. and Ada L. Pierce. She graduated salutatorian from Ozona High School and attended Gulfpark College, Ward Belmont College and Southern Methodist University. She married Eugene ``Jake'' Miller on Jan. 29, 1938, in Ozona. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She was a lifelong member of the Ozona Methodist Church. Vicky's love for and devotion to all members of her family will be long remembered. She served as a PTA leader, Scout den mother, and was recognized as the outstanding adult 4-H leader in Crockett County. She respected the legacy of their ranch land and its rugged beauty. Vicky loved Indian artifacts and was a member of the Crockett County Museum and Texas Archaeological Society. She always had a yard and greenhouse full of beautiful flowers. She was president of the Hudspeth Devil's River Fishing Association and spent part of each summer at their ``treehouse'' on the river. She is survived by her husband, Eugene ``Jake'' Miller of Ozona; a son Pierce Miller of San Angelo; a daughter, Robilen Miller of San Angelo; her brother, Miles Pierce of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Camille Miller Yale of Austin, Roy Miller of Austin, Rod Miller of Ozona, Walt Miller of San Antonio, Kevin Miller of Houston, Shari Miller Hughes of Ingram, Shelley Miller Vargas of Los Angeles; and 16 great-grandchildren. After the service, Bill worked in oil-field construction, real estate, banking and investments. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and had been a resident of San Angelo for about one year. An Army veteran of World War I, he had been custodian for the quartermaster at Fort Russell and later custodian at the Presidio County Courthouse. When he was 80 years old, he delivered the Big Bend Sentinels on a bicycle. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Services are pending at Preddy Funeral Home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REUBEN HORACE STANLEY Reuben Horace Stanley, 87, evangelist, minister of the gospel, family patriarch, beloved daddy, granddad, brother and friend, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at his residence, surrounded with the love and care of his family. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Southgate Church of Christ with Bruce Wadzeck, family and friends officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Lawren Herring, Kim Kinney, Don Sharp, David Steinbrunner, Jerry Stewart and Lee Wadzeck. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Nadine, who died July 1, 1997, and his little daughter, Elaine, who died in 1938. Born Sept. 14, 1911, in Maypearl, Texas, to Minnie Eudora Beauchamp Stanley and Frank Irving Stanley, he was the fifth of 11 children. He married Cova Nadine McDaniel on Aug. 5, 1931, in Crane, Texas. At the age of 15, Reuben had begun to preach, and he continued a lifelong ministry as an evangelist as well as becoming, at an early age, chief engineer of the Pecos Valley Power and Light Co., then superintendent of the WTU plant in San Angelo in the late 1930s. Continuing the Apostle Paul's ``tent maker'' philosophy, he combined being owner and operator of Stanley Electronics with the founding of many churches in the area and Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in San Antonio. For many years, he preached at the Mertzon Church of Christ, retiring from there in 1995 but continuing to be a guest preacher and teacher throughout West Texas. Known as ``the Pecan Man'' in retirement, Reuben raised prize-winning pecans at his Sherwood Farm. His pecans often won first prize on the state level. The family remembers with gratitude Reuben's long life, which embodied his faith and his love and generosity, which extended to all. In addition to a host of friends, he is survived by a son, Dr. Vayden Stanley and wife, Lois, of San Angelo; two daughters, Estelle Herring of San Angelo and Becky Wadzeck and husband, Bruce, of Trenton, N.J.; brothers, F.I. After his marriage to Brenda Melton, his high-school sweetheart, on June 13, 1969, they moved to Dallas where both were employed with IBM. Upon their return to San Angelo, Neal was employed with the San Angelo Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT. Illness necessitated his early retirement in June 1998. At the time of his death, Neal was a Realtor, associated with Dierschke & Dierschke Realtors. He received numerous Top Producer honors and achieved the GRI and CRS designations. Welcoming Neal into heaven are his dear parents, Clinton and Marie Dougan and his father and mother-in-law, Grayson ``Tuck'' and Roxie Vernell Melton, who loved him as their son. Paul was a safety manager for Goodyear Proving Grounds. He took a medical leave of absence on April 1, 1995, after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, where he was trained in disability patrol. He also participated in the March of Dimes and other charity drives. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and his two children, Elizabeth Ann and Curtis Paul Trosclair. Paul was married to Lyndel Weathers on Dec. 21, 1961, in Houston. Upon their return to San Angelo, Neal was employed with the San Angelo Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT. Illness necessitated his early retirement in June 1998. At the time of his death, Neal was a Realtor, associated with Dierschke & Dierschke Realtors. He received numerous Top Producer honors and achieved the GRI and CRS designations. Welcoming Neal into heaven are his dear parents, Clinton and Marie Dougan and his father and mother-in-law, Grayson ``Tuck'' and Roxie Vernell Melton, who loved him as their son. He owned and operated a Chevron station for 25 years until retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. RALPH LANGE BALLINGER - Ralph Bernard Lange, 77, of Olfen died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at Shannon Medical Center-St. John's Campus in San Angelo. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Olfen. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at St. Boniface with Bishop Leroy Matthiesen and Father Stephen Kennelly co-celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Ralph was born Dec. 3, 1920, to Joe and Helena Matthiesen Lange in Olfen, Texas. He was a member of St. Boniface and attended school in Olfen. He married Felda Glass in Rowena on Feb. 10, 1942. He entered the Army Air Corps in August of 1942 and served as a radio operator until October of 1945. He was a farmer and worked at Mueller Supply Co. in Ballinger for 15 years before retiring. Ralph was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Boniface Council No. 2772 and a member of the Rowena VFW. He is survived by his wife, Felda; two daughters, Ann Molinaro of Dallas and Elaine Boggess of Bedford; one son, Greg Lange of Rowena; and two granddaughters, Amanda McDaniel and Vanessa Lange. Also surviving are three brothers, Gerald Lange of Rowena, Erwin Lange of Victoria and Arnold Lange of San Angelo; three sisters, Sister Helen Lange, OSB of St. Leo, Fla., Lucille Franke of Rowena and Sidona Taylor of Scarborough, Maine. His parents and a brother, Herbert Lange, preceded him in death.
