MANUEL ``MEME'' LOMBRANA Manuel ``Meme'' Lombrana, 53, on Dec. 31, 1998, started his new life as he entered eternal rest from St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. Resurrection Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest next to his son in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Manuel, our own valentine, was born on Feb. 14, 1945, in San Angelo to Beatrice and Juan Lombrana. He attended San Angelo schools, where he graduated from Central High in 1965. He went to work at Levi Strauss, where he worked for 28« years as a sewing-machine specialist. He retired on Jan. 1, 1998. Manuel, by trade, was a sewing-machine specialist, but his love for music and golf also took him in different directions. He was the catalyst for ``El Mariache'' Grupo Amistad. He, along with six - sometimes seven - other group members, entertained throughout West Texas with their mariache music. His golfing days were all fun, and he never missed an opportunity for a round of golf. He was a member of the P.A.G.A. of San Angelo. In his younger days, he played baseball with the San Angelo Angels. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a choir member. Through his gift of music, Manuel had a special bond with different church communities of San Angelo. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past member of the American G.I. Forum. Manuel enjoyed life to the fullest. He ran a good race; he won; he now has the victory promised by our Lord and Savior. Manuel married Rosie Fuentes at St. Mary's Church on Nov. 20, 1965, and had two children, Gina and Anthony. ``Meme'' leaves behind a family whom he so loved and protected. His soulmate, his wife, his right hand, Rosie Fuentes Lombrana; his daughter, Gina Lombrana, his left hand, who always put a twinkle in his eye; his pride and joy, his grandson, Ray, whose bond with Grandpa no space or time can break; Amy Jasper, a foster daughter whom he loved and had a special place in his heart for; and Eva and Jerry Mares, who were our adopted family. He loved them as he did his own family. Also surviving ``Meme'' is the love of his mother, Beatrice Lombrana; his brothers, Joe Lombrana of Brady, Henry and wife, Mary, of New Mexico, Thomas, John and Connie, Bobby and wife, Ida, and their families, all of San Angelo; and sisters, Estella and husband, Andres Martinez, of Abilene, Mary and husband, Edward Nandin, of Dallas, Margie Zuniga and Marvin, Alice Patton and husband from San Angelo and their families. Also, his extended family, father-in-law, Rosendo Fuentes; sister-in-law, Rita and Larry Sicina and family, and brother-in-law, John and Lisa Fuentes and family; and the Velez families, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, who all loved their ``Uncle Meme.'' Also surviving Manuel are 16 godchildren and many special friends. Manuel was a great community leader, not because he belonged to any special group, but because he was a simple man with the love of God in his heart. He spread that love for people by his actions, kind words and deeds. He was a great example of the kind of person that God wants us all to be. Throughout hislife, God was a light upon his path, and he reflected that light through his compassionate heart and always his beautiful smile. Manuel was a blessing to all whom he touched in his life's journey. Manuel was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Lombrana; a grandson, Rex Lombrana; his father, Juan Lombrana; and two brothers, David and Mike Lombrana. Carrying Manuel to his resting place will be his brothers, John, Bobby, Henry, Joe and Thomas, and brother-in-law, John Fuentes. Honorary pallbearers will be ``Mariache'' Grupo Amistad members. The family will be at 19 West Avenue I. A memorial fund is currently being set up in honor of Manuel ``Meme'' Lombrana at St. Joseph's Church. ______________________________________________________________ Unless otherwise stated, all material is copyright of the San Angelo Standard-Times. During a very brief illness, Manuel suffered complications while being evaluated for a liver transplant. Manuel's farewell is under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, with a family prayer service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. He attended San Angelo schools and graduated from Central High in 1965. He went to work at Levi Strauss where he worked for 28« years as a sewing machine specialist. He retired on Jan. 1, 1998. Manuel, by trade, was a sewing machine specialist but his love for music and golf also took him in different directions. He was the catalyst for ``El Mariache'' Grupo Amistad. He along with six sometimes seven other group members entertained throughout West Texas with their mariache music. His golfing days were all fun and he never missed an opportunity for a round of golf. He was a member of the P.A.G.A. of San Angelo. In his younger days, he played baseball with the San Angelo Angels. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he was a choir member. Through his gift of music, Manuel had a special bond with different church communities of San Angelo. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past member of the American G.I. Forum. Manuel enjoyed life to the fullest. He ran a good race, he won, he now has the victory promised by our Lord and Savior. Manuel married Rosie Fuentes at St. Mary's Church on Nov. 20, 1965, and had two children, Gina and Anthony. ``Meme'' leaves behind a family whom he so loved and protected. His soul mate, his wife, his right hand, Rosie Fuentes Lombrana; his daughter, Gina Lombrana, his left hand, who always put a twinkle in his eye; his pride and joy, his grandson, Ray, who's bond with grandpa no space or time can break; Amy Jasper, a foster daughter whom he loved and had a special place in his heart for her; Eva and Jerry Mares who were our adopted family, and loved them as he did his own family. Also, surviving ``Meme'' is the love of his mother, Beatrice Lombrana; his brothers, Joe Lombrana of Brady, Henry and wife, Mary, of New Mexico, Thomas, John and Connie, Bobby and wife, Ida, and their families, all of San Angelo; sisters, Estella and husband, Andres Martinez, from Abilene, Mary and husband, Edward Nandin, of Dallas, Margie Zuniga and Marvin, Alice Patton and husband from San Angelo and their families. His extended family, father-in-law, Rosendo Fuentes; sister-in-law, Rita and Larry Sicina and family, and brother-in-law, John and Lisa Fuentes and family; the Velez families, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who all loved their ``uncle Meme.'' Also surviving Manuel are 16 god children and many special friends. Manuel was a great community leader, not because he belonged to any special group, but because he was a simple man with the love of God in his heart. He spread that love for people by his actions, kind words or deeds. He was a great example of the kind of person that God wants us all to be. Throughout his life, God was a light upon his path and he reflected that light through his compassionate heart and always his beautiful smile. Manuel was a blessing to all whom he touched in his life's journey. Manuel was proceeded in death by his son, Anthony Lombrana, a grandson, Rex Lombrana, his father, Juan Lombrana, and two brothers, David and Mike Lombrana. Carrying Manuel to his resting place will be his brothers, John, Bobby, Henry, Joe, Thomas, and brother-in-law, John Fuentes. Honorary pallbearers will be ``Mariache'' Grupo Amistad members. The family will be at 19 West Avenue I. A memorial fund is currently being set up in honor of Manuel ``Meme'' Lombrana at St. Joseph's Church.
