Community always was important to Dan Bo and he belonged to several organizations. He coached teen-age baseball and was a terrific personal coach to lots of nieces and nephews in sports, skills, common sense and life in general. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps about seven months before Pearl Harbor and was stationed at Goodfellow with the 70th Service Squadron and at Gander Field in Newfoundland until V-J Day in 1945. He was a master sergeant and crew chief over the instrument technicians at the field where they repaired and calibrated all instrumentation aboard the Flying Fortresses and Fighter Bombers headed for Europe throughout World War II, including the famous Memphis Belle. Dan had special security responsibilities which included calibration supervision of the Top Secret Nordon Bombsights. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1959. After the war Dan returned home to the jewelry business. He took courses to become a certified jeweler and a registered gemologist qualified to do appraisals. In the 1960s, he changed pace, starting DEEBO Sales specializing in scaffolding, forklift, pneumatic tools and specialty construction equipment sales and rentals. Later he returned to the jewelry business, managing several stores in the Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth areas and finally putting in a new Bolding Jewelers in the Dallas Turtle Creek area with Bart Mann of San Angelo. He also opened an office supply store there. After selling the stores and taking semi-retirement, Dan came home again to open Timeworks inside the Acme Wax Works, his sister's and nephew's store, where he repaired watches and clocks. He worked there until the day he fell. He may be remembered by many people where he frequently shopped, and for driving too slowly in his old gold 1965 Dodge. Dan was preceded in his passing by his parents and three brothers: Sidney Porter, William Angus and Everett M. (Buck). He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Glenn (Mary) Casey and Mrs. Robert E. (Christine) Neligh; as well as four nieces, Anne Dickens, Mary Land (Houston), Stella Wolfenbarger and Judy Baity; and five nephews, Edward Bolding (Tucson, Ariz.), Danny Casey (Denver), Don Bolding (Arlington), Terry Casey (Arlington) and Robert D. Neligh, as well as many other family members. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. H. Grosse Mohler officiating. Services are provided by Johnson's Funeral Home. Dan Bo lived a long, happy and independent life of creative entrepreneur, humble intelligence, honest values and family love. He was a Christian, a patriot and a sly teasing uncle who was always willing to lend a hand. He will surely be missed, but his life and presence here have given great joy and meaning. The love his family shares is manifest proof ofLife Eternal for all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- February 17, 1999 Funerals and Death Notices TODAY SAN ANGELO - Daniel James Bolding, 82, graveside service at 2 p.m. in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens; arrangements by Johnson's Funeral Home. With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, He has wandered into an unknown land And left us dreaming how very fair It needs must be, since he lingers there. And you - oh, you, who the wildest yearn For an old-time step, and the glad return, Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here Think of him still as the same. I say, He is not dead - he is just away. - James Whitcomb Riley ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ELIAS O. `CALICHE' FLORES Elias O. ``Caliche'' Flores, 56, of Mertzon died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in Shannon Medical Center.
