JOE TOM HUDGINS Joe Tom Hudgins, 63, of San Angelo died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at his residence. Graveside service was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were by Johnson's Funeral Home. Joe Hudgins was a very unique person. He had the ability to make most people think he was bigger than big, larger than large, and one of the funniest people I have ever known. He could tell short stories that went on forever, fib with the best, and forever hold his audience in awe while he ranted and rambled about things he had done in his life. I haven't known Joe but for about the last 20 years, but I think I knew him very well. While Joe's mom was living, there could not have been a more devoted son to his mom. I never personally knew her, but she must have been the most loving person around for Joe to take care of her as he did. Joe's dad died many years ago; there were no brothers or sisters, so Joe died with no close family members that I know of. But he had a friend named Rosie and a dog named Pitch, which he devoted his later life to. His longtime trusted housekeeper, Helen, was also one of his favorite people. In earlier years, Joe had a wonderful zest for life, with some of the parties he gave being the rage of the town. No food was too good not to be on Joe's menu, and it was "come as you are" to Joe's parties. "Let's get together and have some fun" was his motto! During the past few years, Joe had struggled with many health problems, and on April 9, 1999, Joe was rescued from a fire in his home by firemen and policemen, and Joe wants to thank all of them for their masterful job they did. Until a few years ago, you could find Joe on the golf course at the San Angelo Country Club, usually playing with Don, Sammy, Milton, Billy, usually playing $5 one-downs. Joe also enjoyed his time in Las Vegas and on the horse racetrack. Joe at one time owned several racehorses and was prosperous in his oil adventures, which seem to work pretty well together. As for dominoes lately at the good old San Angelo Country Club, names such as Dale, Billy, Bill, Roland, Ted, Tommy, Billy Ray, Dal, Ron, Ed, Steve, Cotton, Sammy and Stevie come to mind. There were a lot of friends who just seem not to be able to leave Joe out at special times of the year. They were Don and Maxie, Doug and Peggy, Bob and Hope, Linda and Darrell, Jim and Debbie and Polo and Bud. Joe, we'll miss you, so thanks for letting us know you while we did. These are a few of our personal feelings about one who I would like to call my "FRIEND," Joe Hudgins. Your friends, Rosie and Don FRANK `BUD' EIKENBURY Frank "Bud" Eikenbury, 87, of San Angelo died Friday, April 16, 1999, in Shannon Medical Center.
