She was born February 19, 1909, near Mexia to the Rev. Orlando B. Turner and Lora Grinstead Turner. She was married to the Rev. Alvin R. Mauldin Sr. on Aug. 23, 1930, in Avoca. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church where she and her husband served as pastorates in several churches in central and southwest Texas, before moving to Austin. She was a longtime employee of Dillard's Department Store in the drapery department. She was also an active member of the Widowed Persons Service for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; and by two brothers, Otho B. Turner and Coy F. Turner; and by one sister, Avo Sylvester. Survivors include sons, Dr. Alvin R. Mauldin Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Austin and Donald E. Mauldin and his wife, Deloras, of San Angelo; one daughter, Sandra Rackley and her husband, James, of Georgetown; and by seven grandchildren, Sylvia McMinn, Kimberly Heinrich, Michael Mauldin, Darron Mauldin, Deborah Kinney, Jason Rackley and Babbette Wentrcek. FATHER LEO `FABIAN' DIERSING The Rev. Father Leo "Fabian" Diersing of Ballinger, a retired priest of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo, passed away May 6, 1999, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. He was 93. A wake service was held at St. Joseph's Church in Rowena on Friday, May 7. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in Rowena at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8, with the Most Rev. Michael D. Pfeifer, OMI, bishop of San Angelo, presiding. The bishop will be joined by other priests of the diocese. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rowena. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home in Ballinger. Leo Diersing was born Nov. 14, 1905, in Hobson, Texas, to August and Mary Diersing. He was one of six children born to the couple. He attended the St. Boniface Parish School in Hobson. In 1923, the family moved to Rhineland, and in the fall of 1924 they settled on a farm in Pep, Texas. Father Diersing helped his father in farming until the fall of 1928, when he made a decision to study for the priesthood. Father Diersing completed his college and postgraduate theological training at New Subiaco Abbey, Subiaco, Ark. He was ordained a priest of the Order of St. Benedict on June 13, 1939, at Subiaco. His first years as a priest were spent mainly as a teacher, both at the high school and college level. He taught at New Subiaco Abbey and Corpus Christi College in Corpus Christi. As a Benedictine priest, he also served in various parishes served by his order in Arkansas and Texas. On Jan. 17, 1959, Father Diersing became a priest of the Diocese of Amarillo and subsequently a priest of the Diocese of San Angelo when the diocese was created in 1962. In the Diocese of San Angelo, he served as pastor at: ú St. Joseph, Rotan ú St. Boniface, Olfen ú Our Lady of Guadalupe, Millersview ú St. Elizabeth, Snyder ú St. Margaret of Cortona, Big Lake. ú St. Lawrence, Garden City ú St. Thomas, Rankin ú St. Margaret of Scotland, San Angelo ú Sacred Heart, Coleman During his long years as a priest, Father Diersing also served in diocesan positions as a judge on the Marriage Tribunal and on the Diocesan Liturgical Commission. Father Diersing retired from the active ministry on May 31, 1977. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Olfen Council 2772. He became a Fourth Degree member of the KC's in 1941 and was a member of the Rowena Assembly. He never carried a grudge and always preached the doctrine of the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and his four brothers. William Thomas "Bill" Gordon Jr., M.D., 67, of San Angelo died at 7:02 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999, at his residence. Dr. Gordon was born July 23, 1931, in Tulsa, Okla. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was employed with San Angelo Radiologists, P.A., for 30 years. He was a Mason and a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He was past president of the County Medical Society, counselor for TMA, chief of staff at St. John's Hospital, secretary of surgical staff and past member of CVOG. Dr. Gordon and Clara B. Powell were married Oct. 8, 1955, in Gainesville. FATHER LEO `FABIAN' DIERSING The Rev. Father Leo "Fabian" Diersing of Ballinger, a retired priest of the Catholic Diocese of San Angelo, passed away May 6, 1999, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. He was 93. A wake service was held at St. Joseph's Church in Rowena on Friday, May 7. Mass of Christian burial was at St. Joseph's Church in Rowena on Saturday, May 8, with the Most Rev. Michael D. Pfeifer, OMI, bishop of San Angelo, presiding. The bishop was joined by other priests of the diocese. Interment followed in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Rowena. Arrangements were by Rains-Seale Funeral Home in Ballinger. Leo Diersing was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Hobson, Texas, to August and Mary Diersing. He was one of six children born to the couple. He attended the St. Boniface Parish School in Hobson. In 1923, the family moved to Rhineland, and in the fall of 1924, they settled on a farm in Pep, Texas. Father Diersing helped his father in farming until the fall of 1928, when he made a decision to study for the priesthood. Father Diersing completed his college and postgraduate theological training at New Subiaco Abbey in Subiaco, Ark. He was ordained a priest of the Order of St. Benedict on June 3, 1939, at Subiaco. His first years as a priest were spent mainly as a teacher, both at the high- school and college level. He taught at New Subiaco Abbey and Corpus Christi College in Corpus Christi. As a Benedictine priest, he also served in various parishes served by his order in Arkansas and Texas. On Jan. 17, 1959, Father Diersing became a priest of the Diocese of Amarillo and subsequently a priest of the Diocese of San Angelo when the diocese was created in 1962. In the Diocese of San Angelo, he served as pastor at: St. Joseph, Rotan St. Boniface, Olfen Our Lady of Guadalupe, Millersview St. Elizabeth, Snyder St. Margaret of Cortona, Big Lake St. Lawrence, Garden City St. Thomas, Rankin St. Margaret of Scotland, San Angelo Sacred Heart, Coleman During his long years as a priest, Father Diersing also served in diocesan positions as a judge on the Marriage Tribunal and on the Diocesan Liturgical Commission. Father Diersing retired from the active ministry on May 31, 1977. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Olfen Council 2772. He became a Fourth Degree member of the KC's in 1941 and was a member of the Rowena Assembly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and his four brothers. "Bob" Jensen, 74, of San Angelo died Saturday, May 8, 1999, in Shannon Medical Center. Family graveside service will be at a later date in Santa Fe, New Mexico, National Cemetery, near his only son. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Bob was born on Good Friday, April 10, 1925, to Alfred and Gertrude Jensen at their home in Cherokee, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II. He served three years in the U.S. Navy, on several Philippine Islands and the USS Rawlins. After his discharge in 1946 he went into business with his father and brother, Forrest, at Main and Pine Street in Cherokee. He married Joan Ferrin, also of Cherokee, on Nov. 7, 1947. In 1956 they moved to Los Alamos, N.M., where he worked for the Security Division of the Atomic Energy Commission which later became the Department of Energy, from which he retired in 1981. They lived in Los Alamos for 26 years. In March 1982, they moved to San Angelo. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Forest; and son, Robert Reese in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Linda J. Burns and her husband, Michael, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one granddaughter, Jolene Jensen and her mother, Deborah, of Albuquerque, N.M.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Bernice W. Ferrin of Cherokee; sister-in-law, Betty Hanson, also of Cherokee; and his brother-in-law, Robert W. Ferrin of San Antonio. She was employed at San Angelo Community Medical Center. At the time of her death, she was a student at Howard College, where she excelled academically. She was on the Dean's List, in Who's Who and treasurer of the Student Government Association. Duwain was preceded in death by his mother and father, Agnes and Buck; three brothers, Alvin, Leroy and Bill; and one sister, Evelyn Yeager. He was born Oct. 24, 1942, in San Angelo. He was enlisted as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division and served his country from 1961 to 1964. Mr. O'Keefe was employed with the railroad as a locomotive engineer. Two sons preceded Mr. O'Keefe in death, Jesse Howard O'Keefe, who died in infancy, and Gary Lee O'Keefe, age 19, in April 1965. Robinson Jr., 72, of Stephenville and formerly of Eldorado, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in Benbrook. Graveside service was Thursday, May 13, in Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements were by Kerbow Funeral Home. T.P. was born Oct. 20, 1926, in San Angelo, the son of Corrine and Thomas Payne Robinson. He graduated from Eldorado High School in 1943. He attended John Tarleton Agriculture College in Stephenville. In 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. After the service, he enrolled in Baylor University, where he earned both a bachelor's in business administration and jurist's and a doctor's degree in 1950. T.P. ranched and practiced law in Eldorado, serving as county attorney for more than 30 years. After entering private business in Fort Worth, he retired to Stephenville. Survivors include his wife, Olga; a sister, Frances Tracy of Oconomowoc, Wis.; daughters, Gail Robinson of Bastrop and Kathy Hillman and husband, John, of Waco and their children, Marshall, Michael and Holly Hillman, all of Waco; stepdaughters, Diana Moore and husband, Tom, and Joyce Cruz and husband, Rick, all of Fort Worth, and their children, Frank, Debbie, Sammy, Cindy and Miles; and four great-grandchildren. ELLA MAE WARREN ODESSA - Ella Mae Warren, 74, formerly of Odessa, left this world to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Bryan. She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Sneedville, Tenn. She was a member of Kingston Avenue Baptist Church in Odessa. Mrs. Warren was a retired bookkeeper for several oil-field companies around Odessa. She loved teaching God's word as she traveled around the country in her R.V. In her last year with her beloved friend and traveling companion, Ed Hapman, Ella Mae traveled to scenic places before she became too sick to do so. Silas was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Taylor Triplett; and two sisters, Evon Thomas and Odessa Brown Clevenger.
