She was born Oct. 29, 1913, in Covington, Va., and had been a resident of San Angelo for three years. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of St. Mark Presbyterian Church. Raymond Mitchell Raymond Mitchell, 90, of San Angelo died Saturday, June 5, 1999, in a local care center. Graveside service will be at 9 a.m. today in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. McGee was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Pickens County, Ala., near Gordo to Francis Marion McGee and Stella Ann (Elmore) McGee. He attended Pickens County public schools and the day after Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 8, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country on board the USS Massachusetts from 1942 to 1945. Mr. McGee went to work for the San Angelo Telephone Co. in 1936, which later became GTE and retired in 1973 after 36 years of service. He married Joan Lamb Arnold in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 1973. Mr. McGee was the past president of the Elks Lodge and had attended the First Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Marvin Arnold and Chris Arnold, both of San Angelo, and Joe Arnold of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Mark Taylor, Rene Duke, Bret Arnold, Brenda Arnold, Becky Sullivan and Amber Arnold; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Albert McGee, Eugene McGee, Bill McGee and Marshall McGee, all of Gordo, Ala., and Millard McGee of Marshall; one sister, Velma Maughn of North Port, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews. CLYDE POWELL Clyde Powell, 85, of San Angelo died Monday, June 14, 1999, in a local nursing home. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born June 29, 1913, in Tom Green County to J.S. Powell and Della Evans Powell. He married Beatrice Walthall Oct. 13, 1938 in San Angelo. Mr. Powell was a lifelong farmer of the Wall area. Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Powell and a daughter, Nancy Powell. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Powell; a daughter, Peggy Hugghins of Rusk; two sons, Larry Powell of Eola and Kenneth Powell of San Angelo; two sisters, Elsie Powell and Ethel Kellenberger, both of San Angelo; eight grandchildren; and 11 greatgrandchildren. PARK ASTON FIELDER Park Aston Fielder died June 14, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct. 18, 1958, in McKinney, Texas. When he was 2 years old he moved to San Angelo with his parents, Martha and Burton Fielder. Park was graduated from Trinity Lutheran School, Central High and Texas A&M University. In 1982, he married Laurie Bucek in College Station. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Julian was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Marfa to Jose and Catarina Ontiveros. He retired from Western Air Conditioning in 1981 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Julian was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jesusita Navarrette. Julian was married to Aurora Aguirre on April 19, 1952, in Marfa. LT. COL. CLYDE B. SIKES JR. HENDERSON - Graveside services for Lt. Col. Clyde B. Sikes Jr., age 68, of Boerne, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona. Lt. Col. Sikes died May 8, 1999, at his residence in Boerne. He was born June 2, 1930, in San Antonio. Lt. Col. Sikes married Lillian Schneemann on Sept. 28, 1951, in Ozona, and she preceded him in death on April 8, 1959, in Bitburg, Germany. Lt. Col. Sikes was a career fighter pilot for the United States Air Force with more than 28 years of service from 1953 till his retirement in 1979. During his career he received numerous medals, commendations and decorations while accumulating more than 5,700 hours of flight time with more than 5,000 hours of that time in jet aircraft. He also completed one tour in Vietnam in the 366 TAC Fighter Squadron. He raised two sons with the help of family, both Schneemann and Sikes. Lt. Col. Sikes had a strong character and saw the world as black and white with few shades of gray and possessed the strength to choose the white. Lt. Col. Sikes is survived by his two sons, Clyde B. Sikes III and his wife, Barbara, and Col. Roy Y. Sikes and his wife, Terrye; stepdaughter, Robin Boudion and her husband, Michael; one grandson, Cort B. Sikes; and eight stepgrandchildren. His family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to his doctors and the staff of oncology/hematology at Wilford Hall Medical Center and the staff at Warm Springs Home Health Services for their never ending patience and kindness. Jack distinguished himself by earning both a Bronze Star and a Silver Star, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He ended his military service as a captain in 1945. Jack returned to Texas and married Jill Frater on Feb. 16, 1946, in Bandera. He spent 40 years as a wool and mohair buyer for Forte, Dupree, Sawyer & Co. ROBERT CARLTON CASTON ROBERT LEE - Robert Carlton Caston, 63, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, after a long bout with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family members and friends. He was born in Artesia, N.M., on Aug. 20, 1935, seventh of eight children to Joseph and Bessie Caston. At age 2, he moved with his family to the Wildcat community near Robert Lee. After serving two years with the U.S. Army in Korea, he married Leta Bert Davis of Roscoe on April 14, 1961. He was a member of the Pecan Baptist Church. A longtime resident of Robert Lee, Carlton worked in the land and water conservation industry for more than 40 years. He began with J.D. Harmon Inc. and was made a partner in 1974. In 1988, he purchased the business and changed the name to The Caston Co. They worked throughout West Texas and extensively in the Garden City and St. Lawrence areas. He passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family members and friends. He was born in Artesia, N.M., on Aug. 20, 1935, seventh of eight children to Joseph and Bessie Caston. At age 2, he moved with his family to the Wildcat community near Robert Lee. After serving two years with the U.S. Army in Korea, he married Leta Bert Davis of Roscoe on April 14, 1961. He was a member of the Pecan Baptist Church. A longtime resident of Robert Lee, Carlton worked in the land and water conservation industry for more than 40 years. He began with J.D. Harmon Inc. and was made a partner in 1974. In 1988, he purchased the business and changed the name to The Caston Co. They worked throughout West Texas and extensively in the Garden City and St. Lawrence areas. He is survived by his wife, Leta Bert Caston; son, Marty Joe Caston and his wife, Cindy; daughter, Kimberly ``Kim'' Stephens and her husband, Mike; five grandchildren, Adam, Ginny and Charissa Caston and Tim and Courtney Stephens; four brothers, Henry Caston and his wife, Inez, Clem Caston, Lowell Caston and his wife, Johnnie, and J.C. Caston and his wife, Bea; three sisters, Mary Harmon and her husband, J.D., Betty Lou Harp and her husband, J.B., and Evelyn Copple and her husband, Boyd; and numerous other relatives and friends. She married Marion DeWitt Barnes on July 27, 1928, in Monahans. She was a member of the Church of Pentecost. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 10, 1973; two sons, M.D. Barnes Jr. and A.L. "Buddy" Barnes; two sisters, Nell Schlotte and Fannie Latham; and two brothers, Loyd Williams and John Williams. Mrs. Barnes will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who always put others before herself and showed her love for her family and friends. Her laughter no matter the circumstances endeared her to many. Gerald Slaybaugh MARFA - Gerald ``Terry'' Slaybaugh, 46, of Fort Davis and Big Bend National Park, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, in the park. He was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Marfa and was a lifetime resident.
