Roy was born Nov. 11, 1911, in Tahlequah, Okla. He had lived in San Angelo since 1939. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah and was married to Mildred F. Reed in 1962 in San Angelo. He was the senior adjuster for Continental Insurance Co. for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Hibbard, as well as his second wife, Mildred F. Alta was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church. Alta worked several years for Rector's Restaurant as a cook, and she also worked for Wilkerson's Drug. Alta was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Thomas Privett (``Booger Red,'' well-known Texas Wild West Showman) and Mollie (Webb) Privett; also her husband, John Futch; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Abshire; four brothers, Leroy Privett, Thomas Privett, Luther Privett and William Privett; one sister, Ella (Privett) Linton; and a cousin, Newell Carroll. Alta was born Aug. 8, 1908, in San Angelo and was named ``Lady'' by her father. She traveled and performed with her famous family, as an equestrienne until she sustained a broken leg and had to retire. Alta enjoyed playing Skipbo with her cousin, LaVerne Carroll, and special friends, Sybil McCutchen and Jo Wood. She was a unique personality, who had a sparkle in her eyes and was full of spunk and witty sayings. He was instrumental in the involvement surrounding the building of the new parish church in Friona. College studies were interrupted when he entered the United States Army during World War II. He married Ora Vaughn on Oct. 6, 1950, in Fort Worth. He returned to his postal position, but later joined the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction before retiring in 1968. Following his retirement from active duty, he served as an instructor at Howard Junior College. He later worked as a civilian employee of the Department of the Air Force, serving as the chief of curriculum for the Systems Training Department, United States Air Force School of Applied Cryptological Sciences at Goodfellow Air Force Base. He was also active in Goodfellow's Equal Employment Opportunity program. He retired in 1987 with 41 years of federal service. Richard's hobbies of photography and electronics led him to take numerous technical jobs in the radio and television industry. In a rare moment, he moved from behind the scenes to enjoy a brief stint as the host of a local country and western radio program where he was affectionately known as the ``Night Rider.'' Richard was also active in the local community. He served as a Scoutmaster, a member of the board of directors of the Halfway House of San Angelo Inc. and as a United Way volunteer. He also served on the board of directors of the 1st Community Federal Credit Union and as a member of the accreditation team of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He was a former member of the Diogenes Club and a much requested public speaker. Richard united early in life with the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Jacksonville. He attended the Goodfellow Chapel, where he previously served as lay minister. A family visitation will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Goodfellow Air Force Base Chapel with Chaplain Charles Cornelisse officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Richard was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Jacksonville, Fla., to the Rev. Albert Ellsworth Emanuel and Beatrice Corine Oneal Emanuel. After attending Stanton High School, Richard attended college in New York City while he worked for the United States Post Office. College studies were interrupted when he entered the United States Army during World War II. He married Ora Vaughn on Oct. 6, 1950, in Fort Worth. He returned to his postal position, but later joined the United States Air Force where he served with distinction before retiring in 1968. Following his retirement from active duty, he served as an instructor at Howard Junior College. He later worked as a civilian employee of the Department of the Air Force serving as the chief of curriculum for the Systems Training Department, United States Air Force School of Applied Cryptological Sciences at Goodfellow Air Force Base. He also was active in Goodfellow's Equal Employment Opportunity program. He retired in 1987 with 41 years of federal service. Richard's hobbies of photography and electronics led him to take numerous technical jobs in the radio and television industry. In a rare moment, he moved from behind the scenes to enjoy a brief stint as the host of a local country and western radio program where he was affectionately known as the ``Night Rider.'' Richard also was active in the local community. He served as a scoutmaster, a member of the board of directors of the Halfway House of San Angelo Inc. and as a United Way volunteer. He also served on the board of directors of the First Community Federal Credit Union and as a member of the accreditation team of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He was a former member of the Diogenes Club and a much requested public speaker. Richard united early in life with the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Jacksonville. He attended the Goodfellow Chapel where he previously served as lay minister. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ora Helen Vaughn Emanuel; four children, Mary Helen Mitchell, Yvonne Carol Emanuel, Delic Lucille Loyde and Richard Oneal Emanuel Jr.; his three grandchildren, Denise Michelle Odom, Nolan Jager Loyde and Kimberly Nicole Braddock; and five great-grandchildren, Estevan, Dejon, Stetson, Cameron and Alexis Odom. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Sydney James Emanuel, Albert Ellsworth Emanuel Jr., Edward Thurston Emanuel, Rosa Emanuel, Pennie Boyd, Ruth Ester Gee and Lucille Camilla Lewis. BEULAH HARRIS DEAN Beulah Harris Dean, 86, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at 4:15 p.m. in a San Angelo nursing home. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Beulah was born May 8, 1913, in Mayhew, Okla., to Sydney and Corrillia Harris. She married Ivy Dean June 27, 1944, in Ballinger. He preceded her in death in 1990. Beulah was a longtime employee of the San Angelo Independent School District, having worked in the Central High School cafeteria. She was a member of the Angelo Rebecca Lodge 264 and the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include several nieces and nephews; a granddaughter; a special niece, Ruthy Brawley; and special great-nephew and great-niece, Michael Brawley and Carla Dillard. MAURINE GWENDOLYN MANNING Maurine Gwendolyn Manning, 77, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 27, 1999, in a local hospital. Burial will be at a later date in Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Maurine was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Delhi, Okla., to Albert and Amanda Jackson. She had lived at Baptist Memorials Retirement Center for almost 10 years and was very active in the Baptist Memorials Auxiliary. Maurine and her husband, Henry, were very fond of camping and nature. She also had a great love for gospel music and always found a way to smile through her pain. Maurine was a warm-hearted caregiver who made others feel welcome and comfortable. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Alonzo Manning.
