NICHOLSON The last gavel sounded and court was adjourned as Ruth K. Nicholson, 88, passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at her residence. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Ruth faithfully served Tom Green County for 40 years, 27 of which were as Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 1. In the line of duty, she counseled, consoled, lectured and upheld justice. In addition, she was a friend to many and loved by more. Ruth was born Sept. 29, 1910, in Rockland to James and Theodosia Simmons. She married Taylor A. Nicholson on Dec. 24, 1942, in Orange. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son-in-law, Donald C. Hueske. She is survived by her only child, Frances B. Hueske; grandchildren, Donald T. Hueske and wife, Susan, of Houston, Neal A. Hueske and wife, Jodie, of Powell Butte, Ore., Kirby H. Tyndall and husband, David, of Austin; great- grandchildren, Andrew T. Hueske, Madeline L. Hueske and Mason T. Tyndall; and a host of special friends. Known as ``The Judge'' by some and ``MawMaw'' by her grandchildren, she was well respected and adored by both sides of the law. Her positive, loving and gracious approach to life made every moment with her special. Ruth will always be remembered for her smile, genuine kindness and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed. A parting conversation with Ruth often was, ``I love you.'' ``I love you more.'' ``That's impossible!'' DORINE L. MORELAND BALLINGER - Dorine L. Paul was born May 27, 1924, in Timbo, Ark., to Oscar B. Martin and Viola Ward Martin. He married Betty Louise Ernst on Sept. 12, 1948. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, his parents, and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by a daughter, Liz George and husband, Pat, of Hobbs; a son, Jack D. Martin of San Angelo; a daughter, Irene Tumlinson and husband, Larry, of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Clay Martin and wife, Tessa, of Waterloo, Iowa, and Stacee Butcher of Woodward, Okla.; one great-grandchild, Brack Slater of Woodward; and numerous family members and a host of friends. Paul served in the U.S. Army, ETO, during World War II. He worked for Humble Oil & Refining in Eunice, N.M., Fort Stockton, Rankin, and Monahans before relocating to Hobbs, where he and his wife owned and operated the K&K Quick Shop for many years. Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eunice and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and past noble grand of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Hobbs. He attended Baylor College of Pharmacy and at that time was the youngest student ever to get a pharmacy license. He owned and operated the Eden Pharmacy until entering the Army in 1943 when he served as a medic in the South Pacific during World War II. After discharge from the military he settled in Bryan where he had a pharmacy until his retirement in 1965 when he moved back to Eden. SONORA - Jerry Neill Shurley Jr., beloved son, brother, father and friend passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Tampa, Fla. Jerry was born June 2, 1948, in San Angelo to Jerry Neill Shurley and Jacquelyn Friend Shurley, descendents of early West Texas ranching families. He attended Sonora public schools and Texas A&M University and obtained a degree in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. During Jerry's career he was involved in residential construction and development and real estate publishing in Houston, Austin and Florida. He received state and national recognition for excellence throughout his career for professional results in sales and marketing including awards for Marketing Director of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders Association and Sales Manager of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders, Texas Association of Builders and the National Homebuilders Association. SONORA - Jerry Neill Shurley Jr., beloved son, brother, father and friend, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Tampa, Fla. Jerry was born June 2, 1948, in San Angelo to Jerry Neill Shurley and Jacquelyn Friend Shurley, descendants of early West Texas ranching families. He attended Sonora public schools and Texas A&M University and obtained a degree in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. During Jerry's career he was involved in residential construction and development and real estate publishing in Houston, Austin and Florida. He received state and national recognition for excellence throughout his career for professional results in sales and marketing including awards for Marketing Director of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders Association and Sales Manager of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders, Texas Association of Builders and the National Homebuilders Association.
