Gladys, the daughter of Levi and Mary Louisa Yoes, was born in Stephens County and was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Chester Yoes and Bethel Yoes; and a sister, Beulah Edwards. Gladys married Feb. 14, 1931, and had three children, Marie Fletcher Lay, married to Walter Lay; Kenneth Shipman, married to Sammie Forehand; and Klomah Kukowski, widow of Ted Kukowski. ELEANOR LUCILE MAYO BOHANNON OZONA - Lucile Bohannon died Monday, Aug. 23, 1999, in the Guadalupe Valley Hospital in Seguin. Services are pending. Arrangements are by Preddy Funeral Home. Lucile was born May 9, 1911, in Elgin to Dr. O.N, and Susie Dora Mayo. She grew up in Brownwood but spent the last 30 years as a resident of Ozona. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a Friend of the Library. Her poems appeared often in The Ozona Stockman. She was married to John Bohannon in 1930. They had been married 67 years when he preceded her in death in 1997. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Inez Mayo Stuter. Survivors include one son, John Bohannon and his wife, Mary Blanche, of Ponca City, Okla., and two daughters, Mary Sue Gill and her husband, Howard, of San Angelo and Carol Martin and her husband, Sammy, of Leesville; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She had two sisters, Mrs. Julia Roland of Rockwall and Winnie Hays of McLean. Following John's death she spent the last 22 months of her life near her daughter, Carol, at a nursing home in Nixon. Mother's come home. JERRY NEILL SHURLEY JR. SONORA - Jerry Neill Shurley Jr., beloved son, brother, father and friend passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Tampa, Fla. Jerry was born June 2, 1948, in San Angelo to Jerry Neill Shurley and Jacquelyn Friend Shurley, descendants of early West Texas ranching families. He attended Sonora public schools and Texas A&M University and obtained a degree in marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. During Jerry's career he was involved in residential construction and development and real estate publishing in Houston, Austin and Florida. He received state and national recognition for excellence throughout his career for professional results in sales and marketing including awards for Marketing Director of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders Association and Sales Manager of the Year from the Greater Houston Builders, Texas Association of Builders and the National Homebuilders Association. Jerry is survived by his mother, Jacquelyn Thomas, and a brother and sister-in- law, Mark and Kathy Shurley, all of Kerrville; children, Janet Hovland of Streamwood, Ill., Roxanne Davis of San Antonio, Kelly Story of Grapevine, Shea Shurley of Del Rio, Summer Shurley of Carrollton and Taylor Shurley of Houston; uncle, Gene Shurley, aunt, Midge Shurley and cousins, Scott Shurley and Suzanne Huddleston, all of Sonora; nephews, Drake Shurley of Austin, Michael and Dana Stewart of Houston; and eight grandchildren. Collins, 81, of San Angelo died at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at his residence. James was born to Thelma and James Collins, May 30, 1918, in Sweetwater. He married Lena Mae Spencer on Feb. 6, 1939, in San Angelo. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway as a locomotive engineer from May 17, 1942, to June 9, 1978. He was a Mason for more than 50 years. James was an avid sports fan and held the same season tickets for Bobcat football since the 1957 season and was a member of the Bobcat Booster Club for many years. After residing in Austin until 1953, Jane and Kelso moved to San Angelo where they lived until 1981, retiring to their ranch near Harper. Services are pending at Grimes Funeral Chapels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries JEAN WILLIAMS RAINEY Jean Williams Rainey, 66, of San Angelo died suddenly Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, where she loved being most at her ranch home near Menard. Jean was born May 23, 1933, in San Angelo. She was happily married to Charles Rainey for two and a half short but glorious years. Jean was a person who loved life and lived every day to the fullest. She touched everyone she came in contact with through her infectious smile and caring ways. Jean spent nine years working at Texas State Bank. She enjoyed her co-workers and her customers where she engaged them with her congenial nature, always making them feel special. She ended her working career when she fell in love with Charles. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on numerous community charitable organizations throughout her life. Cooking was one of Jean's passions and she enjoyed sharing her wonderful creations with those she loved, which was many. Jean's smile was always present and her laughter filled the air. Her vivacious appreciation of life was felt by all and her glowing spirit will be forever missed. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Freddie Barney. Survivors include her husband, Charles Rainey, a son, Larry Williams, a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and J.B. Francks, three stepsons and their wives, Gordon and Sharon Rainey, Rusty and Sherry Rainey and David and Sue Rainey, all of San Angelo. Jean also left behind seven step-grandchildren, three great- step-grandchildren, and an abundance of wonderful friends. She was also a member of Christian Women's Fellowship. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Midland and went to Angelo State University were he was ``Roscoe the Ram'' mascot before transferring to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clariece Harris, and one brother, Maynard Read. Taylor worked in sales his whole life. He never met a stranger and knew more people and had more friends than we could ever count. We love you dearly, Taylor. We will always remember your big ready smile and so ever warm heart. MOORE FORT STOCKTON - Joseph E. ``Little Joe'' Moore, 82, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 29, 1999, at his home. Cunningham, 66, of San Angelo died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, in a local hospital. Ray was born April 3, 1933, in Moonshine Hill, Harris County. Ray was very dedicated to his wife, family and friends. He worked in the oilfield in sales and manufacturing and had a special love of working with preschool children in all of the churches he attended. He married Betha Jean Neal Jan. 16, 1954, in Corpus Christi and was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church. Ray is survived by his wife, Betha Jean Cunningham of San Angelo; two sons, Bill Douglas Cunningham and his wife, Wavely, of Shreveport, La., and David Alan Cunningham of Kingwood; one daughter, Barbara Lynn Sherrill and her husband, Richard, of Houston; eight grandchildren, Shane, Pamela and Luther Patrick Sherrill, all of Houston, Emily, Rebecca and Victoria Cunningham, all of Shreveport and Steven and Wesley Cunningham, both of Kingwood. H. ALYNE RODGERS H. Alyne (Nutt) Rodgers was born Oct. 26, 1913, in Miles to Martin Elbert and Nora Cooper Nutt. She spent her life in San Angelo and went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999. Alyne was married to Virgil D. Rodgers in 1943, who predeceased her in 1987. She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Gary Douglas, Trish Christine and Avery Alexander Rodgers. Alyne graduated from Lake View High School in 1932. She was a lifelong Baptist and an active member of the First Baptist Church of San Angelo for over 40 years. A life member of the Victory Study Club, she served on the finance committee for over 15 years and also served as president. She spearheaded the drive to raise funds to build the current clubhouse and was involved in the preservation efforts for the Mary E. Lee Park. She was a Realtor for 25 years and was active in the Property Exchangers and served as chairman of the ``Make America Better'' committee for the San Angelo Board of Realtors. She was an inspiring mother, grandmother, sister and a dedicated friend to many. She is survived by her sons, Gary R. Rodgers and his wife, Pat, of Austin and Randy D. Rodgers and his children, Logan and Caitlin Rodgers of San Antonio. She is also survived by her brother, Carlton ``Corky'' Nutt, her sisters, EvaNola Wills and Maureen Kirksey and her husband, Eugene, all of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the First Baptist Church Chapel with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
