Box 298060, Fort Worth, TX 76129, in care of Dr. Doug Newsome for a journalism scholarship to be established in the honor of Bruce Neal. A native of San Angelo, he was born Feb. 22, 1935. A former broadcast journalist, he joined the public relations staff of Six Flags Over Texas in 1969. Four years later he became manager of the public relations department. A native Texan, he received his journalism training at TCU and spent more than 12 years in radio and television news. During this period he served twice as president of the Texas AP Broadcasters Association. He also was past president of the Fort Worth chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He was a former producer and director of the Texas Gridiron Show. As Six Flags' PR manager, he was responsible for the park's public relations, publicity and guest relations programs. In addition, he represented Six Flags in statewide tourism activities. He was past chairman of the Discover Texas Association. In 1985, he was the recipient of that organization's Distinguished Tourism Award. On the national level, he served as a member of the Press and Public Relations Committee of the Travel Industry Association of America. He was a loving husband, son, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Pat Neal of Bedford; daughters, Lori Neal Hodge of Boerne and Karen Neal of Fort Worth; his mother, Ruth B. Horton of San Angelo; grandchild, Alexandra Hodge of Boerne; and uncle, Harbon Neal and his wife, Margaret, of San Angelo. A reception will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall at University Christian Church in celebration of his life. JOHN T. ADAMS John T. Adams, 75, of San Angelo died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, in a local hospital. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at St. Paul Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Craig Meyer officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Adams was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Denver to Dale J. Adams and DeLourdes M. Hart Adams. He married Helen Jones in Littleton, Colo., in 1943. John served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, serving two years in the South Pacific. John was a furniture finisher by trade and loved woodworking. He retired from JC Penney in 1984 and he and Helen moved to San Angelo at that time. John was a member of the Code Blue, a volunteer at RSVP and Meals for the Elderly. He served as an Elder at St. Paul Presbyterian Church and was an adult Scout leader for nine years. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Rick Adams of St. Cloud, Fla., and Greg Adams of Denver; a brother, Jim Adams; two sisters, Janet Brush and Jean Rapp, all of Denver; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. KENNETH WAYNE WILLIAMS Kenneth Wayne Williams passed from this life Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the age of 43 years, eight months and 13 days. Kenneth was the firstborn child of Eugene and Zelda Wojtek Williams, born Feb. 8, 1956, in San Angelo. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Leroy Sedgwick will officiate. Kenneth always made friends easily and surrounded himself with them daily. Country music was his beat in life...he could always tell you who sang the tune and when it was recorded. From the torch and twang ballads, trucking songs and rock-a-billy, it did not matter - he loved them all. Fascination with the uncertainty of the West Texas weather kept Kenneth busy, and friends would often call him for the latest weather update. Kenneth also loved to travel, watch sports and was a true fan to the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Zelda Wojtek Williams; both paternal grandparents; and maternal grandparents. Survivors include Kenneth's father, Eugene Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mickey Williams and niece, Jessica Williams, all of San Angelo. Other survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of special friends. JOHN WEBB DENNIS POST - John Webb Dennis passed on at the ranch Tuesday morning, Oct. 19, 1999. He was born in Farmers Branch, Texas, on March 9, 1917. His parents were J.S. and Lela May Dennis. As a youngster, the Dennis Family made their move to San Angelo, Texas, where John attended and graduated from San Angelo High School and San Angelo Junior College, receiving numerous honors in basketball, track and baseball. Love of ranching and being a No. 1 goat roper came early in life as John worked with sheep and goats on his relative's ranches. (The Mims and Demere families). This early experience led eventually to John's ranching career and original partnership with brothers Jack and Bert in Fort Stockton, Texas, and then, after World War II, purchasing the present ranch in northern Borden County in 1946 and working together until the late 1950s. On March 30, 1946, John married Margaret Bruels of Mercer, Pa., in San Angelo. They moved to and have resided on the ranch in northern Borden County, raising four children, along with mostly sheep, a few horses and cattle and most especially his SUPER DOG COG. John was an avid sports enthusiast, supporter, promoter and sometimes referred to as ``Coach'' of the many athletic events pursued by his children, plus 4-H, FFA, livestock shows, horse shows and junior rodeos.+ John was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Dennis Awtry Oct. 13, 1997. He is survived by his wife, (Margaret), affectionately called Miss Peggy; one son, David Dennis of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Mary Ann Dennis Awtry of Orange City, Iowa, and Jacquie Dennis Whalen of Gail, Texas; also, three grandchildren, Michael Awtry of Abilene, Texas, Russell Awtry of Lubbock, Texas, and Marissa Awtry of Southlake, Texas. Monigold, 49, went to be with our Lord Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at 11:30 p.m. at his home in San Angelo. A memorial service attended by family and friends took place at Glen Meadows Baptist Church where he was a member. Ralph was born on Dec. 1, 1949, in Katy, Texas, where he was raised working on the family rice farm until his adult years. He earned his pilot's license at Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) in Waco. He had a great love for his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and rode it with his wife, Carol Mae, whenever possible on weekend trips. Ralph loved San Angelo and its people. He fell in love with it at first sight. His many friends here along with those in other places will miss him greatly. All who knew him will remember his unselfish desire to help others as well as his wonderful, sharp, dry sense of humor. He is survived by his forever loving wife, Carol Mae; his mother, Peggy; sister, Lora of Katy; his sons, Allen of Fort Stewart, Ga., Karl of Houston, and Kemp and Michael of San Angelo; and his daughters, Jennifer and Laura of San Angelo. He moved briefly to Georgetown, in 1921 and then to Austin where he attended junior high and high school. He graduated from Austin High School in 1925. He was baptized into the First Christian Church of Austin in 1922. Mr. Snell entered the University of Texas in 1925. He left school in 1926 to work for the Dallas Public Light Company as a draftsman for one year. He reentered the University of Texas in 1927 and after graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1930, he joined the Texas Highway Department where he worked until his retirement in 1973. He took a leave of absence from the highway department to join the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps during World War II. He entered the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade and was promoted to lieutenant in 1944. Mr. Snell was assigned to the 12th Naval District with headquarters in San Francisco. He was responsible for the construction of shore installations. He was also stationed at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station and briefly in Rhode Island. Upon his return to the highway department, he became assistant district engineer in District 9, headquartered in Waco. In 1954, he was named district engineer of District 7, located in San Angelo. During his tenure as district engineer, he was responsible for all road, bridge and highway projects in eight counties. He also was responsible for locating and constructing the section of Interstate 10, which runs through Kimble, Sutton and Crockett counties. In San Angelo, he carried out the construction of Bryant Boulevard, the location and preliminary studies of the Houston Harte Freeway (U.S. 67) and the location and first phase of construction of Loop 306 around San Angelo. Mr. Snell married Louise Hirschman in 1934 in Dallas. He is the father of four children. He is survived by his wife of 65 years as well as his daughters, Melissa Cooper of Yerevan, Armenia, and Janet Cook and her husband, Kevin, of Dallas; his sons, Charles Snell and his wife, Violet, of San Antonio and Richard Snell and his wife, Karla, of Austin. He also has seven grandchildren, Courtney Doss, Scott Snell, Carrie Snell, Jonathan Snell, Stephanie Cook, Jennifer Cook and Kyle Cook; and one great-granddaughter, Rachel Doss. His sister, Margaret Snell of Moulton also survives him. His parents and his brother, Leon, preceded Mr. Snell in death. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Bennie Garcia, Pearl Trapini and Ivan La France for their kind care over the past several years and to Dr. Jerry Schulze and the nurses and staff on the 5th floor of Shannon Medical Center. After coming to Sonora she married Sutton County rancher, Andrew Moore, and continued teaching until her retirement after 29 years with the Sonora I.S.D. She had taught in all Sonora schools, including the Elliott School. Morris was born July 3, 1916, in Ozona, the only son of Will L. and Callie Dunlap Miller, pioneer ranch families. He graduated from Ozona High School in 1933 and moved to Borden County to join his Dad in ranching. He married Willena Wyatt, his high school sweetheart, in 1936, and they continued to live on the ranch in Borden County. He was a Baptist. Their only child, Margaret Ann, was born in 1943, in Snyder. She died in 1993, after almost six years battling cancer. In 1957, they moved to Bandera County when they purchased the beautiful Rocky River Ranch near Medina. They had many friends there in the beautiful Hill Country. In 1977, they moved to San Angelo and purchased a ranch in Concho County, near Eden. Morris went to the Concho ranch almost every day and went to Borden County often to oversee the property there. Morris is survived by his wife, Willena, and two granddaughters, Cara Carpenter and Julie Ann Carpenter; also two great-grandchildren, Kyle Morris Hahn and Chelsea Raelyn Hahn. He also is survived by one sister, Mildred Bond of Brookesmith; and his brother-in-law and wife, Floyd and Dorothy Wyatt of Bandera. Williams, 94, longtime San Angeloan, died Friday night, Oct. 22, 1999, in an Austin nursing center. Mr. Williams was born July 29, l905, in Milam County and lived on a farm near Rowena during his youthful years. He was the son of Biery R. and Susan Whited Williams. He played on a baseball team in a league that was a forerunner of the Texas League and turned down offers to be a pitcher on a professional baseball team. On Oct. 8, 1932, he was married to Marguerite Armstrong in Wall. Mr. Williams was employed by the City of San Angelo for 32 years and received recognition for inventing an improved process for striping streets. For four years during the 1950s, he was a member of the board of trustees of the Lake View Independent School District. He was a longtime member of the official board of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife in 1986, and by two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his son, Bob D. Williams and his wife, Nancy, of Austin; by a brother, Douglas Williams of San Angelo; and by two sisters, Dorothy Borgmann of Burbank, Calif., and Nora Schroeder of Teague. He also is survived by three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. CARL DONALD MEEK SR. KERRVILLE - Carl Donald Meek Sr., of Kerrville, beloved husband and father, honored grandfather and treasured brother, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at age 78. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mrs. Linton was born March 17, 1906, in Rosebud, Ark. She was the daughter of John and Bess Hale. She married M.E. Linton on July 8, 1927, in Conway, Ark. They were married for 62 years, until Mr. Linton's death May 22, 1989. Mrs. Linton received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Mexico in 1941. She was a teacher and principal in the New Mexico public school system for 40 years. Most of that time was in the Hatch Valley School District. After she retired, she became a noted landscape artist, specializing in painting the Sonora desert and Monument Valley of Arizona. Mrs. Linton was a Methodist. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at St. John's Methodist Church in Hatch for 36 years. She also was active in Methodist missionary work. After her retirement, she transferred her church membership to University Methodist Church in Las Cruces, N.M. Mrs. Linton is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Davison, and one grandson, Larry Davison, both of San Angelo. She was a teacher and principal in the New Mexico public school system for 40 years; most of that time was spent in the Hatch Valley School District. He was born Jan. 24, 1931, in Zephyr, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War during which he was awarded several medals for his service. Bill was president of the Jaycees in Brownwood in 1964 and continued to be a leader and spokesman for the group through 1969. He was a member of the Lions Club in Brownwood and was a graduate of Angelo State University. He was vice president of the State of Texas Jaycees and was active in the San Angelo Western Little league. Bill was instrumental in bringing youth sports to North San Angelo in the late '60s, namely the 29th Street Complex. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Brownwood. A lifetime resident of Mart, Mrs. Childers was born July 16, 1908, in Mart to John Luther Spencer and Louise Carpenter Spencer. She was valedictorian of the 1924 senior class of Mart High School where she later taught mathematics and Latin for over 30 years. After graduating from high school, she attended Baylor University from which she received a B.A. degree magna cum laude in 1928 and an M.S. degree in 1956. In 1989 her family (the Allens) received the First Families of Baylor Award for having five consecutive generations of Baylor graduates. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Mart, which she had served as organist, pianist and Sunday school teacher for over 60 years. She was a member of the Mart Book Lovers' club for many years. On May 4, 1929, she was married in Coolidge, to Asa Bill Childers, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 4, 1999. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1999. Her survivors include her two sons, Dr. Asa Bill Childers Jr. of Bryan and John R. Childers of San Angelo; her daughter, Mrs. Harry (Marion) Burleson of Mart; her sister, Dorothy Headen of Mart; her cousin, Frances Wheless of Mart; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. JOE MONTANO HOUSTON - Joe Montano was born in Crowley, Colo., June 13, 1948, and moved to San Angelo, Texas, at an early age. He remained in San Angelo through his high school years where he graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1967. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Albesa Trevino in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and was assigned to the 182nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, N.C. Following his duty in the armed forces, Joe attended the University of Texas at San Antonio where he received his BBA. He moved to Houston, Texas, in 1980 where he was employed by the IRS in his current position as a mutually respected international examiner. Joe was always looking for ways to contribute to society where his latest endeavor was at Houston Community College, teaching evening ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. Joe resided in Sugar Land, Texas, where he leaves behind a loving family, wife, Albesa, and two daughters, Kristie Allen and Stacey Montano, son-in-law, Peter Allen, and granddaughter, Lauren Renee. Joe's caring approach to life leaves behind many dear friends. Joe will be dearly missed by his beloved family and friends. Shortly after completing pilot training at Foster Field, Victoria, Texas, he was assigned to a medium bombardment duty with a B25 Mitchell Bomber Group in the South Pacific. For his service, he was awarded the Air Medal with a cluster, an Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with two campaign clusters and Meritorious Medal for his foreign service. After separation from active duty as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, he remained in the Air Force Reserves until his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in 1984. Mr. Lankford also remained active in aviation by assisting in the organization of Civil Air Patrol units in Alpine and Marfa. His active duty and reserve duty covered a period of 42 years. Mr. Lankford had lived in Marfa since 1948 and retired from the U.S. Immigration Service in 1976. Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by his first wife, Clarice R. Lankford, who died in 1979. ROBERT `BOB' HAYNIE Robert ``Bob'' Haynie, 74, a retired real estate investor of San Angelo, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, in San Angelo Community Medical Center. Bob was born Nov. 15, 1924, in San Angelo to Chester and Evelyn Haynie who preceded him in death. He attended school in San Angelo and Iraan. Bob was a double veteran serving his combat duties in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theatre in World War II and also the Korean War. He was awarded numerous medals during his seven years of active duty. After leaving the service he married Ona Peek, March 12, 1960. Bob was a self- employed real estate investor whose properties included motels, restaurants, ranches in Oklahoma, clubs, small tracts of land and houses. He purchased, remodeled and operated the properties, which he would sell, trade or lease. Following their honeymoon they moved to Ozona where she became an integral part of small town life. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Ozona United Methodist Church. Williams who died Aug. 9, 1992, in Ozona following a two year battle with cancer; an infant daughter; her parents; two sisters, Anna Mae Adams and Avis Harris; brothers, Horace Cunningham, Roy Cunningham and Damon Cunningham. Memorials may be made to Hospice. HAZEL D. LAWRENCE BIG SPRING - Hazel D. Lawrence, born April 4, 1910, in Fort Worth died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in Houston. She graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown in 1930 and was a public school teacher in Big Spring for many years. To be near family, she moved to El Paso in 1987 and then to Houston in 1996. Survivors include her three sons and their families, Kelley E. Lawrence II and wife, Joyce, of Houston, the Rev. John A. Lawrence and wife, Waynoka, of Kerrville and Kennard T. Lawrence of Houston; seven grandchildren, Dennis Lawrence of Houston, David Lawrence of Reston, Va., Don Lawrence of Charlotte, N.C., Karen Bouvier of New Orleans, Kelley Adams, of Lafayette, La., Kimberly Brooks of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Kevin Lawrence of Houston; six great- grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Deffebach White of Beaumont. Requiem Communion in celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Liggett and the Rev. Steve Birdwell officiating. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, in Eola Cemetery in Eola. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Maude was born Oct. 23, 1903, in Waxahachie, Texas. She married Roy C. Wright May 4, 1924, in Eola. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a graduate of Eola High School and she was a devout Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her children, Nadine Williams of San Angelo, Billy and Mary Wright of Lake Livingston, Marlene and C.L. Holley of Garland, Sherman and Elaine Wright of Midland and Ronnie and Barbara Wright of San Angelo; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Micheala; one sister, Abby Graham of Kingsland; and several nieces and nephews. BELVA SAVANAH PARK Belva Savanah Park, 96, of San Angelo died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in a local hospital. She married Thuran Adolf Park Nov. 27, 1924, in Hillsboro and later moved to San Angelo in the early 1930s. Belva was a seamstress for Model Laundry and at Goodfellow Air Force Base for many years. She was a member of Oaks Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Park was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; a son, Billy H. Park; a daughter, Joyce A. Harmes; and one great-grandson, Eddie H. Harmes. Survivors include a son, Donald Mac Park of Bandera; seven grandchildren, Belva Davis, Tom Park, Jalown Park McCleery, and Terrell Park, all of San Angelo, Brodon Park of Houston, Trey Park of Galveston and Stephanie Park Lamb of Bandera; six [cc20]great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. PEGGY MITCHELL BRANCH Peggy Mitchell Branch, 74, of San Angelo died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. She was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Durrant, Okla., to Allen Yates and Lucy Seawright Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tom Branch. Mrs. Branch was a longtime employee of GTE, starting as an operator in Carlsbad, N.M., and during her long career with the company served in many locations and executive positions throughout the southwest. She retired in San Angelo in 1986 and spent her retirement years in extensive traveling at home and abroad. Mrs. Branch is survived by her sister, Jo Ann Brininstool of San Angelo; her brothers, Don Mitchell and wife, Kay, of San Angelo and J.A. Mitchell and wife, Pat, of Ignacio, Colo.; and extended family members and their children and many close friends. Graveside service for Mrs. Branch will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with her nephew, the Rev. Robert Mitchell of Gateway Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, officiating. She went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Robert Lee Baptist Church with burial in Robert Lee Cemetery. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home. She was born and raised in Dayton and also attended school there. She married Arthur Earl McCoy on March 8, 1952, in Huffman moving to Robert Lee in 1964. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Earl McCoy. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Lee Franklin of Newlin and Barbara Ann Sparks and husband, Billy, of Robert Lee; two granddaughters, Mary Ann Franklin of Lubbock and Bobbie Marie Sparks of Robert Lee; two brothers, Pat H.
