An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he retired from Pittsburg Paint & Glass and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Robert Baker SWEETWATER - Robert H. ``Bob'' Baker, 72, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Tobar, Nev., and had been a resident of Sweetwater since 1947. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was an independent trucker and a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2479. Louise McClure COLEMAN - Louise Merryman McClure, 83, of Coleman died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in San Antonio. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. Alton Holloway BRADY - Alton ``Tick'' Holloway, 93, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in Brady. Service will be at 3 p.m. today in Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Voca Cemetery. He was born Nov. 24, 1906, in Lost Creek. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include four nephews and three nieces. Fred Birdsong BROWNWOOD - Fred W. Birdsong, 95, of Grand Prairie and formerly of Brownwood, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in a Grand Prairie nursing home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with graveside service at 1:30 p.m. in Miles Cemetery in Miles. He was born Sept. 7, 1904, in Jiba. He worked as a clown for Dailey Brother's Circus and was retired from Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries MARVIN LEE McGILL Marvin Lee McGill, 55, of Millersview passed away at home on Jan. 11, 2000, after a battle with cancer. Marvin was born July 22, 1944, to Alvin Austin McGill and Flora Temple Hamilton in Stockton, Calif. Both parents preceded Marvin in death. Survivors include his wife, Ellen McGill of the home; a son, Ted McGill of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter, Marjorie Leitch of Farmington, N.M.; grandchildren, Kari and Kaci McGill, Clif and Trey Parker, Serena, Brandon and Brian Leitch. He also is survived by two sisters, Patsy Lott of Haywood, Okla., and Twyla Young of Crowder, Okla.; along with numerous family members and friends. Marvin was a devoted family man and friend, touching the lives of many. Marvin lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, children and spending time with his family and friends. He was known for lending a helping hand, being a hard worker and his sense of humor. Marvin had a lifelong dedication to helping others. One of Marvin's many unique talents were being very successful at whatever he chose to do. He was deeply loved and cherished and will be terribly missed by his family and friends. Marvin's final days were eased by the comfort and tender care provided by the wonderful staff of Vista Care Family Hospice and many loving friends. Final arrangements have been made with Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo and by his family. In accordance with his last wishes, a memorial service for the New Mexico friends and family was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the West Main Baptist Church in Artesia, N.M., with the Pastor David Brunson and the Rev. Don Bailey officiating. A memorial service for the Texas friends and family will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the McGill home in Millersview with the Rev. Don Bailey officiating. GEORGE DIBRELL JONES JR. George Dibrell Jones Jr., 76, of San Angelo died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in a local hospital. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with the Rev. Scooter McCurdy officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born July 14, 1923, in Knox County to George D. Jones and Jessie Gulick Jones. George served in the United States Air Force during World War II, flying 30 missions and three weather missions. He received the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf clusters. After the war, George married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Sue Cooper, on June 14, 1945, in Seymour, Texas. George was a deacon for 31 years and was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church. George was retired from Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Co., where he had been district manager and an officer of the company. He had been employed there for more than 30 years. George was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Georgann Sullivan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Jones of San Angelo; a son, George Cooper Jones of Borger; a daughter, Mary Melinda Prose and her husband, Edward E., of San Angelo; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Capt. James C. Jones and Dawna of Frankfurt, Germany, Sgt. Tracy D. Jones and Regina of Brussels, Belgium, George Cooper Jones Jr. and Jennifer of Longmont, Colo, Stephanie Rae Bratton and Robert of San Angelo, Micki Lyn Ringo and Scott of North Richland Hills, Jennifer Nix of Fort Worth, and Lauren Hunter of Clovis, N.M.; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett Jones of Willow Park, Texas, David Boyd Jones of Bedford and Harold Jones of Goree; two sisters, Christine Ray of Van Vleck and Leola Smith of Fort Worth; and a special little friend, Heidi. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. MARY ALICE KERBOW Mary Alice Kerbow, 86, of San Angelo died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in San Angelo Community Medical Center. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Ben Hubert officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Mary was born Feb. 18, 1913, in Byers to Ferdinand and Elizabeth Thornton and graduated from Byers High School. She married Paul Kerbow April 22, 1934, and moved to San Angelo in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1985. Three sisters, Allie, Bessie and Ruth, also preceded her in death. She had been employed by the Tom Green County Tax Assessor and the Texas Highway Department. She retired from the highway department in 1978. In addition to spending time with her family on vacations at Christmas and summer in New Mexico, she was a Cub Scout pack mother and loved to hunt and fish. Her family and friends considered her a ``tomboy'' and at 4'9'' and with red hair, she was a little whirlwind. She is survived by her son, James Paul Kerbow and his wife, Susan, of San Angelo; granddaughter, Kelly Kerbow Gibbons and husband, Eric, of Austin; granddaughter, Kristin Kerbow at University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.; granddaughter, Sonya Franquiz and great-granddaughter, Auriel, of Tamarac, Fla.; and great-granddaughter, Kristi Harlow of Odessa; as well as a brother- and sister-in-law, Shelby and Achsah Kerbow of Georgetown. She also had many nieces and nephews and special friends, including Nita Townley and Ruby Sorrells. She had many friends from the First Christian Church and the highway department. Contribution in her name can be made to either Baptist Memorials Center or Vista Care Family Hospice. Pallbearers will be Ron Taylor, Mike Taylor, J.J. Fulgham, Bruce Kerbow, Billy Hollis and Phil Lane. The family would like to express its appreciation to Baptist Memorials Center for the three years of care, to the nurses and staff of San Angelo Community Medical Center for their love and care and to Vista Care Family Hospice for their special attention and support.
