Lee Whitlock Lee Roy Whitlock, 87, of San Angelo died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, in a local hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Paint Rock Cemetery. He was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Taylor. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. Service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Johnson's Funeral Home with Paul Shero officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Cora Belle was born Nov. 18, 1918, to Robert and Mattie Taylor in Eddy County, N.M. She married H.F. Sofge on Dec. 21, 1935, in Fort Stockton. He preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1990. Cora Belle was retired from GTE and also was a retired real estate agent. She was a longtime resident of San Angelo and was a member of the Baptist church. She is survived by three daughters, Sarah Lee Kiesling and husband, Herman, of Las Cruces, N.M., Patricia Tankersley and husband, Leamon, of Phoenix and Helen Wilde of San Angelo; seven grandchildren, Sherry Fox and husband, Bryan, of Houston, Terry Kiesling of Redondo Beach, Calif., Wade Tankersley and Michelle Worley, both of Phoenix, Angie Tankersley of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mandy Wilde, Randi Wilde and Jessica Wilde, all of San Angelo; one sister, Sarah Taylor McKee of San Angelo; two brothers, Basil Taylor of San Antonio and Jimmy Taylor of Waco; two special nieces, Mary Dale Bryant and Mattie Mae McKee, both of San Angelo; and numerous other nieces and nephews. BILLIE DEE CARTER MIDLAND - Our precious sister and aunt, Billie Dee Carter, embraced eternal life on Jan. 17, 2000. She was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Cross Plains to Murman Alexander McGowen and Effie Martha Gregory. On July 2, 1939, she married Horace Carter in Monahans. They lived 27 years in Crane, where they were very active in the community. After Horace's death on July 22, 1980, she moved to Midland. Dee was an avid reader and loved to play bridge and go to plays and musicals. She was so much fun to be around and always had a positive attitude and great outlook on life. She will live in our hearts forever. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Ron Roetschke of Midland; nieces, Martha Rice and her husband, James, of Midland, Ramona Nickerson and her husband, Doug, and children of Amarillo and Dru Castillo and her husband, Marcus, and children of El Paso; great-nephews, Clay Rice of Dallas and Luke Rice of Midland; great-niece, April Rice of Plano; sister-in-law, Marie McGowen and nephews, Randy and Kelly McGowen, all of San Angelo; nephews, Mac McGowen of Bartlett and Douglas McCary of San Antonio; special friend, Bob Marden of Midland; and many loving friends. GABRIEL ``LEL'' JUAREZ BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A chapel service for Gabriel Juarez will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, and a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mortuary. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Gabriel passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 16, 2000. He was 67 years old. Gabriel was born March 24, 1932, in San Angelo, Texas, and resided in Bakersfield for the last 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Eva Juarez; his children, Dean and Lydia of Tacoma, Wash., Debora of Seattle, Anthony and Jessica of Bakersfield and Dorothy Roberts; his mother, Leonarda Juarez and sister, Josephine Carrillo, both of San Angelo; three brothers, Pablo Juarez of Houston, Frank and Inez Juarez of Bakersfield; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Casketbearers will be Antonio Andros, Joe Briones, Arnold, Andy and Alberto Hogeda and Frank Juarez. Gabriel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking trips with his family. His kindness and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. CHARLIE GASTON ALLEN Charlie Gaston Allen passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in a local nursing home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Hubert of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), officiating. Burial will be in the McKenzieville Cemetery near Silver. Charlie was born June 8, 1914, in Mitchell County, the fifth of 12 children born to Robert B. and Madie Allen who were longtime residents of Silver in Coke County. He spent his early adulthood working on the family farm and neighboring ranches. In 1941 he moved to Winslow, Ariz., where he worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 35 years, more than 30 years spent as an engineer. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, a member of Navaho County Planning and Zoning Commission and a longtime member of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in Arizona. His retirement years were spent in Arizona, Florida, Sweetwater and San Angelo. Survivors include his wife, Ronda, of San Angelo; a son, Charlie G. Allen Jr., of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters, Jacque Jeanne Larson of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Charla Jo Lee of Glendale; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruthelle Clegg of Pocasset, Mass., Cleone ``Bobbie'' Sanders, Nita Archer and Esther Jones, all of San Angelo; a brother, Bill Allen of Sweetwater; stepchildren, Vicki Trimble, Mary Holis, Rinda Wojtek, Buz Wojtek and Phyllis Murphy; and three stepgrandchildren.
