After being born in Nolan County, she and her family lived in several places including Eastland and Wickett, but settled in Wink in 1942. After graduating from Wink High School in 1943, she worked as a telephone operator for several years. She quit working to raise her family with her husband, A.M. ``Chub'' Kelly Jr. In 1977 she went back to work as an operator, retiring from Basin Answering Service in 1989. There were many things in her life she was proud of but her two granddaughters were at the top of her list. She was glad to tell anyone who would listen that her granddaughter, Mel, was a UTPB graduate and a paralegal and her granddaughter, Miss, was a Texas Tech graduate and a school teacher. Evonne loved to watch baseball on TV, especially if her team, The Cubs, were playing. She would often talk about a trip to Houston with her daughters to see the Cubs play the Astros. She was so excited when the Cubs announcer, Harry Carey, waved at her. During her life she taught her daughters many things they will never forget - the importance of giving a baby a powder bath, how to get a taxi cab, to put Vicks and hot towels on your chest for a cold, patience, endurance and grace. We will miss you. LARRY R. ELSEY Larry R. ``Dane'' Elsey, 60, of San Angelo died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, in San Angelo Community Medical Center.
