Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. He was born April 23, 1971, in San Angelo and was a lifetime resident. He worked for Levi-Strauss and Ethicon and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. SONORA - Jose Candelario Espinosa Sr., 81, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 30, 2000. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Father William DeBussion officiating. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home. Jose was born Sept. 27, 1918, to Jesus and Cleofitas Espinosa in Austin, Texas. He married Antonia Sanchez on Jan. 31, 1947. He retired from the Sonora Highway Department in 1983 and was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Survivors include one son, Joe Espinosa Jr. and his wife, Maria Elena, three grandchildren, Cecilia Ramos, Jamie Espinosa and his wife, Christy, and Richard Espinosa, three great-grandchildren, Katrina Uvaldo, Chelby Ramos and Emilio Espinosa, all of Sonora. He and his wife also raised two children, Armando Salcedo of Dallas and Margarita Salcedo of Grand Prairie. Also surviving Jose are one brother, Jesus Espinosa and his wife, Elia of San Diego, Texas; a sister-in-law, Jesusita Lumbreras; a brother-in-law, Oracio Sanchez and his wife, Francisca; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be Vicente Sentena, Jesus Guerra, Juan Guerra and Agapito Sanchez. MILTON R. `BID' GRYDER Milton R. "Bid" Gryder, 62, of Sonora died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in San Angelo. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Bid was born April 24, 1937, in Rising Star. After graduating from Reagan County High School, he began a long career in the gas industry, which included stops in New Mexico, Odessa and Sonora. Bid and his family spent three years in Algeria working for El Paso Natural Gas, during which they were able to travel extensively across Europe. After leaving Algeria, he and his family returned to Odessa and eventually settled in Sonora. He recently retired from Burlington Resources after 35 years of dedicated, tireless service. When Bid was not spending time with his family, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. In his earlier years, he was a record holding drag racer and avid mechanic. Bid was a devoted husband, father and grandparent. He touched everyone's life that he encountered. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Paula; five children, Faron Gryder of Midland, Debra Hopper of Allen, Kendon Gryder of Houston, Hollye Gryder of Austin and Brandon Gryder of San Angelo; four grandchildren, Heath Gryder of Midland and Cassie, Brittany and Haley Hopper, all of Allen; brothers, Melvin of Comanche, Donnie of Eastland, Ronnie of Keller, Larry of Austin and Rodney of Houston; and a sister, Sharon McKee of Pampa. MARY BURTON HOUSTON - Mary Gay Burton born Sept. 6, 1940, in San Angelo, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Houston, Texas. Ms. Burton was a graduate of Austin High School, Austin, Texas, and the University of Texas and was a longtime personal secretary to Senator Lloyd Bentsen. She was preceded in death by her father, Pete J. Burton. Survivors include mother, Lou Ellen Burton and sister, Linnie M. Burton Donnelly and husband, Art, all of Midland; nieces, Magan Catney and husband, Kenny, and their children, Blake Arthur and Katy, all of Wichita Falls, and Degen Fricker and husband, William, and their children, Claudia Ruth and Keaton Marie, all of Midland; nephew, Arthur and wife, Victoria Donnelly of Dallas; cousins, Alan and wife, Ann Park Burton of Houston and Peggy Eades of Arlington. LEON P. WOODS Leon P. Woods, 81, of San Angelo died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in a local care center. Reared on a farm in Comanche County, he surrendered to preach at the age of 16 and spent his lifetime in the ministry. In addition to student pastorates and part-time positions since retirement, his pastorates included First Baptist Church of Saginaw, First Baptist Church of Grapevine, Harris Avenue Baptist Church of San Angelo, Calvary Baptist Church of Midland and Grandview Baptist Church of El Paso. He served as Army chaplain in World War II and in the Korean War and 10 years on the administrative staff at Howard Payne University, Brownwood. In addition to his pastoral ministry, Dr. Woods particularly enjoyed farming and raising goats and Angus cattle on his family homestead. In 1997, Harris Avenue Baptist Church declared him their pastor emeritus. Dr. Woods held degrees from Howard Payne University and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. In 1961, he was awarded the honorary doctor of divinity degree from Howard Payne University. He authored a book, "Work of the Holy Spirit," published by Carlton Press, NY. He served as a member of the executive board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the board of trustees of Howard Payne University, as moderator of the Concho Valley and El Paso Baptist Associations of Texas and on numerous committees of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He was a member of the executive board of the Texas Alcoholic Narcotics Education Inc. A man who possessed a genuine shepherd's and servant's heart, his spirit and ministry have blessed countless numbers of lives throughout the years. Survivors include his wife, Maurie Forbes; a daughter, Jeanie Gaddis and her husband, Leo, of Clemson, S.C.; a son, Forbes Leon Woods and his wife, April, of Duncanville; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Evelyn Gaddis, Ettamarie and Michael Wasson, Noelle and Thom Chesney and Jonathan Woods; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. GUERRERO A loving father, adoring husband and giving brother died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in a local hospital with all his children by his side. Born on March 14, 1931, to Genaro and Gregoria Guerrero in Weslaco, Texas, Florentino envisioned one day to follow in his father's footsteps and have a thriving ministry. Florentino began his ministerial work in 1962 in Slaton, Texas. After serving as a minister for the Assemblies of God for over 20 years, Florentino founded Assamblea Evangelica Inc., where he continued to serve as chairman of the organization until his illness no longer allowed him to serve his community in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Juan Guerrero; a sister, Lena Hugh; and a son, Oscar Guerrero. Survivors include his wife, Socorro Guerrero; his sons, Florentino Guerrero Jr. and wife, Linda, Carlos Guerrero and wife, Ruby, Samuel Guerrero, Joel Guerrero and wife, Sonia, David Guerrero, Daniel Guerrero and wife, Terri, and Auggie Martinez; his daughters, Nellie Garcia and husband, Ray, Norma Campos and husband, Danny, and Nora Ponce and husband, Juan; his brothers, George Guerrero, Genaro Guerrero and Abel Guerrero; his sisters, Maria Guarjardo, Raquel Meneces, Noemi Sarrmiento, Guadalupe Leal, Elizabeth Guerrero and Gregoria Flores. Florentino's love for his children was only superseded by his love for his 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren that will remember their grandpa and his dog, Balloon. He was a minister to all who had needs and no one was too obscure for his compassion. He taught his children that giving to the less fortunate was a privilege and that no one could outgive God. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Templo Siloe Church, 1625 Upton.
