GUERRERO A loving father, adoring husband and giving brother died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in a local hospital with all his children by his side. Born on March 14, 1931, to Genaro and Gregoria Guerrero in Weslaco, Texas, Florentino envisioned one day to follow in his father's footsteps and have a thriving ministry. Florentino began his ministerial work in 1962 in Slaton, Texas. After serving as a minister for the Assemblies of God for over 20 years, Florentino founded Assamblea Evangelica Inc., where he continued to serve as chairman of the organization until his illness no longer allowed him to serve his community in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Juan Guerrero; a sister, Lena Hugh; and a son, Oscar Guerrero. Survivors include his wife, Socorro Guerrero; his sons, Florentino Guerrero Jr. and daughter-in-law, Linda, Carlos Guerrero and wife, Ruby, Samuel Guerrero, Joel Guerrero and wife, Sonia, David Guerrero, Daniel Guerrero and wife, Terri, and Auggie Martinez; his daughters, Nellie Guerro and husband, Ray, Norma Campos and husband, Danny, and Nora Ponce and husband, Juan; his brothers, George Guerrero, Genaro Guerrero and Abel Guerrero; his sisters, Maria Guarjardo, Raquel Meneces, Noemi Sarrmiento, Guadalupe Leal, Elizabeth Guerrero and Gregoria Flores. JAMES `ABE' STERLINE PAYNE James Sterline Payne was born Dec. 13, 1920, in Harriett to Jacob Calvin and Lorena Payne and passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Community Hospice House in Fort Worth. His parents; and his wife of 50 years, Christine Payne, preceded him in death. Mr. Payne was a graduate of Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Cavalry and Infantry as tech sergeant, stationed in India. He retired from Leonard's Department Store in Fort Worth. He was a member of Living Word Baptist Church in Alvarado, where he recently was honored with his 18-year perfect attendance pin. He also was the music teacher at Living Word Christian Academy. His friends and neighbors will remember him as Honest Abe; he enjoyed portraying the former president. He married Mary G. Martinez on Oct. 23, 1963. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a former employee of Shannon Hospital. He was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Martinez; his father, Candelario P. Martinez; and a sister, Emma Lee Bara. Survivors include his wife, Mary Gamez Martinez, one daughter, Yvonne M. Arredondo and her husband, Ramon, one son, Efren R. Martinez and his wife, Rickie, two loving grandchildren, Taylor R. Martinez and Xavier R. Arredondo, his mother, Mary Atilano Martinez, one brother-in-law, Manuel G. Bara, two brothers, Johnny A. Martinez and his wife, Lupe, and Candelario A. Martinez Jr., one sister, Lisa M. Mendez, one niece, Debby B. Martinez and her husband, Damon, and three nephews, Mario M. Bara and his wife, Alejandra, Barney Mendez Jr. and Ronnie Mendez, all of San Angelo. DURWOOD DALTON NEVILLE SONORA - Durwood Dalton Neville, 79, of Sonora died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in San Angelo. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the First United Methodist Church of Sonora. The Rev. Suzanne Steves of the First United Methodist Church of Sonora and the Rev. Cathy McCellan of Unity Church will preside. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home of Sonora. Durwood was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Stamford, Texas. After graduating from Anson High School, he joined the United States Navy serving as Chief Petty Officer and navigator in the South Pacific during World War II. In the early seventies, Durwood purchased the Ford dealership in Sonora. An avid Bronco Football Booster, he enjoyed an active life involved with his family, ranching, golfing, and fishing. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Sonora and the Unity Church of San Angelo. Durwood was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Jo Neville. Durwood is survived by his wife of 27 years, Wanda Cahill Neville; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Patterson, her husband, Bill Patterson; and sister-in-law, Mozelle Neville. Other survivors include three daughters, Judy Lane and her husband, Bill, of Luling, Susan Smith and husband, Steve, of Bryan, Diana Condra and husband, Jimmy, of Sonora; and one son, Jimmy Cahill and wife, Ruthie, of Sonora. Surviving grandchildren are Alvin Lane, Kevin Lane, Jennifer Purcell, John Purcell, Andy Smith, Justin Condra, Whitney Keller, Kelly Owen, and C.J. Cahill. The family request memorials be made in Durwood's name to the Sutton County Emergency Medical Service or a favorite charity.
