Albert Massey SWEETWATER - Albert James ``A.J.'' Massey, 76, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in a local care center. He was born June 6, 1923, in Dripping Springs and had been a resident of Sweetwater for 50 years. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a carpenter and member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Massey of Sweetwater; two sons, Tim Massey and Gary Massey, both of Sweetwater; a sister, Doris Wilkinson of Sweetwater; a brother, Milton Massey of Floresville; and four grandchildren. Gladys Keith BIG SPRING - Gladys Keith, 87, of Big Spring died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in a Stanton care center. Box Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries ANNIE MORRIS Annie Mae Morris passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Baptist Memorials Geriatric Hospital. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Winchester of Grape Creek Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Ann was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Victoria to Nelson Ball and Lou E. Reid Ball. She married Grady Morris Feb. 17, 1940, in San Angelo. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in just a few days. Mrs. Morris had been a bookkeeper for Baptist Memorials, St. John's Hospital and Owens Brothers Construction Co. She was a member of the Grape Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Grady Morris of San Angelo; one daughter, Jo Ann Fairbanks and husband, Marshall, of San Antonio; one son, Mike L. Morris and wife, Sally of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren, Larry and Chris Norris, Toby Streicher, Austin and Hailey Morris, Carmen and Melissa Fairbanks, Ryan and Chad Nichter and Jeaneen Orcutt; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Christopher Norris; three brothers, L. PAT COYAN John Pat Coyan was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to George and Mary Hannum Coyan. He lived his early years in Council Bluffs and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937. He was a 1941 graduate of Drake University with a B.J. degree. He worked several years for the Standard-Times and retired in 1981. During World War II, he was in the Navy and spent most of his military career as a blimp pilot at Naval Air Station, Santa Ana, Calif. He married Lucille Foote on Aug. 5, 1944, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Orange, Calif. They have one daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Michael Amoroso of Northridge, Calif., and a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sara Coyan of San Angelo. Pat and Lucille have a granddaughter, Christie Webb and husband, Greg; three grandsons, Gregory Amoroso and wife, Sandra, and Kinley and Bill Coyan; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordon and Cameron Webb. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with the Rev. Clifton Gardner, rector, and the Rev. Robert Hedges officiating. Harmon, 79, of Robert Lee died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in The Grand Court in San Angelo. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Robert Lee Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Paul Terry officiating. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home. Alfred was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Coke County, Texas. He married Ethel Alice Counts on June 15, 1942, in San Angelo. Alfred had been a resident of Coke County most all of his life. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force. He was a pipe fitter for Union Local 211 in Houston before his retirement in 1982. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas R. Harmon and Amanda Elvira Sparks Harmon; a sister, Ruby Lee Blair; and three brothers, Cortez Harmon, Crowley Harmon and Finis Harmon. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Harmon of Robert Lee; a son, Nick Harmon and wife, Kim, of League City; a sister, Inez Harmon Humm of Robert Lee; and five brothers, Floyd Harmon and J.D. Harmon, both of Robert Lee, his twin, Alf Harmon of San Angelo, Milton ``Bill'' Harmon of Waxahachie and Randle Harmon of San Angelo. It was Alfred's request that no ties be worn to the services. ANDREW A. WILDE BALLINGER - Andrew A. Wilde, 94, of Rowena died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo after a short illness. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at St. Joseph with Father Stephen Kennelly officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Andrew was born June 11, 1905, in Westphalia, Texas, to Ben and Mary Fuchs Wilde. He married Minnie Willberg on Nov. 24, 1931, in Rowena. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rowena, where he served on the church council and St. Joseph School Board for many years. He also was a member of Rowena Knights of Columbus Council 2636. After high school, Andrew attended St. Edwards University in Austin. He and his father and brothers owned and operated Wilde Gin Company in Rowena for many years and continued with his son, Carl, until retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Albert, Ben J., Arthur and Victor; two sisters, Otillia Moeller and Helen Kasberg; and a son-in-law, Joe Kozelsky Jr. Andrew is survived by his wife, Minnie of Rowena; his son, Carl James Wilde and his wife, Jeanette of Rowena; his daughter, Janet Kozelsky of Ballinger; five grandchildren, Lisa Kasberg of Birome, Darrell Wilde of Keller, Denise Medrano of Rowena, Tim Kozelsky of Pearland and Darren Andrew Kozelsky of Arlington; and seven great-grandchildren. JOSE MORAN ORNELAS Jose Moran Ornelas, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in a local hospital. Rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Terry Brenon officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Ornelas was born July 24, 1916, in Santa Anna to Santiago and Maggie Moran Ornelas. He married Erlinda Fernandez Sept. 18, 1939. Mr. Ornelas was a dental technician in San Angelo for many years and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Southside Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Erlinda Ornelas of San Angelo; two sons, Joe Ornelas Jr. of San Angelo and Rick Ornelas of Grapevine; three daughters, Olga Cruz of San Angelo, Sylvia Ney of Carrollton, Linda Elizondo of Sterling City; three sisters, Adela Tafolla and Maggie Rivera, both of San Diego, and Mary Gonzales of Bakersfield; a brother, Rudy Ornelas of Austin; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. LOUISE EWALD GROTE LLANO - Louise Ewald Grote was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Rowena, Texas, to Pete and Albia Ewald. When she was 4 years old the family moved to San Angelo, Texas, to pursue the cotton-buying industry. Louise graduated from San Angelo Central High School, attended San Angelo College and took a cotton-classing course in Corpus Christi, Texas. She worked for the family cotton business, Ewald & Sons, and was a bookkeeper for Ragsdale Cotton Co. for many years. Louise died Feb. 6, 2000, at her home in Buchanan Dam, Texas, following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Llano City Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Johnson and the Rev. Harold Onwiler will officiate. Louise was a loving and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren. She was a Methodist, taught Sunday school and served as a volunteer candy striper at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. She was a band mother, 4-H Club counselor and with her husband was adviser to the Texas Junior Hereford Association for many years. She served as director and president of the Texas Hereford Auxiliary and was on the board of directors and vice president of the American Hereford Auxiliary. Louise was a gracious hostess and entertained many friends and customers in her home. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Albia Ewald; three brothers, Arnold, Vernon and Pete Jr.; and two sisters, Thelma Ewald and Juanita Ashley. She is survived by her husband, James; son, Larry; daughter, Mary; grandchildren, Natalie and Bobby; and her sister, Doris and husband, Oscar Lock Sr., Doris being the only survivor of the seven Ewald children. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors. Pallbearers are Gary Grote, Glen Grote, Jeff Grote, Warren Grote, Don Ashley and Max Hawthorne. Memorials may be made to Llano Hospice, Texas Hereford Association Foundation, Alzheimer Disease Research or charity of choice.
