He was born May 5, 1916, in Callahan County and had lived in Roscoe for 46 years. A veteran of World War II, he was a farmer and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Services are pending at Overby Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries LOLA ANN LOONEY Lola Ann Looney, 93, of San Angelo died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in a Llano hospital. Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jerold McBride, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Lola was born Aug. 15, 1906, to Charlie and Elizabeth Epps in Medina, Texas. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Sterling City for a number of years and was a member of First Baptist Church in San Angelo. She was a retired nurse. Lola was married to Hubert Looney on Aug. 14, 1927, in Christoval. They celebrated their 69th anniversary before he fell ill and died on Feb. 29, 1996. A daughter, Sue McClain, also preceded her in death on May 26, 1997. Lola will be buried between them. Survivors include her son, Adran{CQ} Looney and wife, Coleen, of Kingsland; two grandsons, Mark Looney of Hawaii and Doug Looney of Kingsland; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ollie Graham of Carlsbad, N.M.; and numerous nieces, nephews and many, many good friends. TRUMAN JACKSON WHEELER Truman Jackson (T.J.) Wheeler, 73, of San Angelo died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in a local nursing home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Don Bailey, chaplain of VistaCare Hospice, officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. T.J. was born Nov. 1, 1926, in Bowie, Texas, to John and Fae Wheeler. He lost his parents at a young age and lived with a special uncle and aunt, Howard and Annie Lee Wheeler. He was a retired real estate broker in Bowie and was a Methodist. T.J. was married to Neva Helvey on May 11, 1950, in Austin. They celebrated 45 years of marriage before she died on June 6, 1995. Survivors include a son, Mike Wheeler and wife, Ruth, and granddaughter, Kami, of San Angelo; a son, Patrick Wheeler of Denver; a brother, John D. Wheeler and wife, Charlotte, of Kingsland; a sister, Mary Pearson and husband, Albert, of Avoca; sister-in-law, Lucille Spitznass of Wichita Falls; sister-in-law, Mary Helvey of Twin Falls, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to VistaCare Hospice in San Angelo. J.R. `PETE' LATHAM J.R. ``Pete'' Latham, 61, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his residence. Pete was a resident of Eola following his retirement, after 38 years, from the Department of Agriculture in Del Rio. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and uncle who will be missed by all who knew him. Pete was born on Oct. 6, 1938, in Del Rio, where he had lived for 58 years. On Aug. 31, 1959, he married Billye Darlene Bergmann of San Angelo, his partner for 40 years. His parents; a brother, Richard Latham; and a sister, Leita Faye Latham Furman, preceded Pete in death. Survivors include his wife, Billye Bergmann Latham; two children and their families, Todd and Janis Latham and Jessie and Alley of Carlsbad, N.M., and Julie and Mikel Doyle and Cassie, Jensine and Stella, all of San Angelo; a brother, Robert ``Bobby'' Latham of Del Rio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, in Westlawn Cemetery in Del Rio with Pastor Brian Sprangler officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. WILLIE ADA MORRISON RAINEY CLIFTON - Willie Ada Morrison Rainey died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in the Goodal Witcher Nursing Home in Clifton. She was 96 years old. Mrs. Rainey was born Aug. 2, 1903, at Trent in Taylor County, Texas, to Jesse Albert and Martha Morrison. She married Boone F. Rainey April 19, 1941, in San Angelo. Mr. Rainey preceded her in death on April 17, 1984. Mrs. Rainey grew up in Bosque County and attended Clifton College after high school. She obtained her teaching certificate and taught at Fairview for one year before heading west to teach near Robert Lee and San Angelo. Here she met and married her cowboy husband, Boone. They ranched and she taught school in the San Angelo country. She also attended school in the summers and received a degree from Daniel Baker in Brownwood. She later taught at Hamilton until retirement. They then bought a ranch at Goldthwaite, Texas, and lived there several years before moving back to Clifton. Mrs. Rainey was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at the First Baptist Church where Mrs. Rainey was a member. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Clifton Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clifton or a favorite charity. NANCY TAYLOR SONORA - Nancy Taylor, 89, of Fayetteville, Ga., and formerly of Sonora, Texas, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Fayetteville. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Blanche Regeon Babcock and son-in-law, Ken Babcock, grandchildren Nanetta and John Phillips, Resa Regan, Rhonda and Michael Weatherup, great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jamie Phillips, Jesse Regan, Jodi Cooper, Chelse and Zachary Farmer. Nancy was a dedicated nurse, a member of the United Methodist Church of Sonora, UMW, the Fireman's Association and was a dedicated rancher's wife. Nancy's husband was Cashes W. Taylor, deceased in 1988. Nancy also is survived by many neices and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Kerbow Funeral Home Chapel in Sonora. Burial will follow in Sonora Cemetery.
