Arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home. She was born May 31, 1921, in Bronte and had lived in Andrews until moving to Odessa. Charles Byrd SWEETWATER - Charles Edward Byrd, 70, of Sweetwater died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in a Houston hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Lumberton, Miss., and had been a resident of Sweetwater since 1960. A National Guard veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired accountant from Domtar Gypsum Co. She was born May 13, 1916, in Alcorn County, Miss., and had been a resident of Kerrville since 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a brother, Woodrow Lancaster of Golden, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________________________ Obituaries BILL MYERS ALBANY - Bill Myers of Albany passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 19, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tunnell officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, South East of Cisco under the direction of Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home. Mr. Myers was born June 26, 1925, in Shackelford County. He was the widower of Sybil Claxton Myers and later in 1986 he married Gwen Watson Lilly in Killeen, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He had been an employee of Covey Industries and Burgess Industries. He was a member of Woodmen of the World and Masonic Lodge 482. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Myers of Albany; two sons, Jimmy Myers and Billy L. Myers Jr., both of Austin; one daughter, Vicki Palmer of Euless; one brother, Wayland Myers of San Angelo; and three nephews, Lee Myers and John Myers, both of San Angelo, and Richard Myers of Granbury. WALLACE R. CARNES Wallace Reid Carnes passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at First Christian Church. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Wallace was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Comanche, the son of Truman (Tom) and Maurine Thorp Carnes. He spent his early years in Texon before moving to San Angelo, where he attended high school and was a member of the Bobcat football team. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold (Buddy) Carnes; a sister, Charlotte Sikes; a brother-in-law, John Sikes; and a nephew, Alan Sikes. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter and and son-in-law, Monita and John Patterson of San Angelo; son, Wallace R. Carnes II of Austin; stepson, Mark Behrend of Redwood City, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Louis Drake of San Angelo; brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Patricia Carnes of Albany; sister-in-law, Genevieve Carnes of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wallace served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1985, he retired from the U.S. Geological Survey after 35 years of service to pursue his love of golf. He and Mary were active members of First Christian Church and longtime Shannon Auxiliary volunteers. They loved to dance and were members of La Paloma Dance Club. They enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends. He will be missed by his family, coffee groups, many friends and church family. Honorary pallbearers include his golfing buddies, Pete Blakely, Pete Davis, Sonny Cortese, Benny Stuard, Curtis Rosinbaum, Charlie Alford, Charlie Wetzel, Bill Taylor and Casper Rutherford. Janie was born July 26, 1915, in San Saba and had been a resident of San Angelo for 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Four Square Church. She is survived by her son, Rodger Houston of San Angelo; her daughter, LaNelle Morrison of Winters; four grandsons, Jimmy Houston of Kingsville, Jerry Houston of Cleburne and Joe Houston and Jeff Houston, both of San Angelo; one granddaughter, Robbie Morrison Bishop of Winters; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. JESSE T. PEITCHINSKY Jesse T. Peitchinsky, 57, of San Angelo died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at his residence. Jesse was born April 29, 1942, in Sonora. He graduated from Lake View High School and Angelo State University and received a master's degree from West Texas State. He married Becky Sue Watson Aug. 3, 1963, in San Angelo and he was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served 27« years in the United States Army and was a colonel when he retired from the military. For the last seven years, he drove a school bus for the Grape Creek Independent School District. He was preceded in death by both parents, Fred Peitchinsky and Bonnie Livingston Peitchinsky; and one brother, Raymond Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Becky Peitchinsky of San Angelo; two daughters, D.D. Peitchinsky Boschert and husband, Danny, of Dallas, and Wendi Peitchinsky of San Angelo; two sisters, Jerri Huie and husband, John, and Cleo Owen, all of San Angelo; one brother, Herman Peitchinsky and wife, Marry, of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lynell was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Shamrock, Texas, to Clyde and Thelma (Mayfield) Fillmore. She was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. Survivors include her parents, Thelma and Clyde Fillmore of Wichita Falls; a sister, Carol Beth Carsey and her husband, Robert C. Carsey of Dallas; her children, John Sutton Allison III and his wife, Patty, James Edward Allison and Katherine Brooks and her husband, Conoly; four grandchildren, Stefanie, Sutton, Phillip and Caroline Allison. RUTH ROGERS WILLIAMS GRAND PRAIRIE - Former San Angelo resident Ruth Rogers Williams of Grand Prairie, Texas, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Dallas after a brief illness. She was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Normangee, Texas. Ruth graduated from Baylor University in 1938 and taught music in public schools in West Texas for several years. She married Jackson Clifford Williams in 1941, moving to San Angelo in 1951. They were members of the First Baptist Church. She taught music and Jackson was employed in the oil fields. They relocated to Grand Prairie in 1977. She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Jo Margaret Williams of Dallas; son, Jack Clifford Williams of Grand Prairie; and son-in-law, Robert Fisher of Dallas. Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 23, in Normangee, Texas. The family requests donations be made to Billy Graham ministries.
