CARNES Wallace Reid Carnes passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at First Christian Church. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Wallace was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Comanche, the son of Truman (Tom) and Maurine Thorp Carnes. He spent his early years in Texon before moving to San Angelo, where he attended high school and was a member of the Bobcat football team. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold (Buddy) Carnes; a sister, Charlotte Sikes; a brother-in-law, John Sikes; and a nephew, Alan Sikes. He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter and and son-in-law, Monita and John Patterson of San Angelo; son, Wallace R. Carnes II of Austin; stepson, Mark Behrend of Redwood City, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Louis Drake of San Angelo; brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Patricia Carnes of Albany; sister-in-law, Genevieve Carnes of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wallace served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1985, he retired from the U.S. Geological Survey after 35 years of service to pursue his love of golf. He and Mary were active members of First Christian Church and longtime Shannon Auxiliary volunteers. They loved to dance and were members of La Paloma Dance Club. They enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends. He will be missed by his family, coffee groups, many friends and church family. Honorary pallbearers include his golfing buddies, Pete Blakely, Pete Davis, Sonny Cortese, Benny Stuard, Curtis Rosinbaum, Charlie Alford, Charlie Wetzel, Bill Taylor and Casper Rutherford. Peitchinsky, 57, of San Angelo died at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at his residence. Jesse was born April 29, 1942, in Sonora. He graduated from Lake View High School and Angelo State University and received a master's degree from West Texas State. He married Becky Sue Watson Aug. 3, 1963, in San Angelo and he was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served 27« years in the United States Army and was a colonel when he retired from the military. For the last seven years he drove a school bus for the Grape Creek Independent School District. He was preceded in death by both parents, Fred Peitchinsky and Bonnie Livingston Peitchinsky; and one brother, Raymond Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Becky Peitchinsky of San Angelo; two daughters, D.D. Peitchinsky Boschert and husband, Danny, of Dallas, and Wendi Peitchinsky of San Angelo; two sisters, Jerri Huie and husband, John, and Cleo Owen, all of San Angelo; one brother, Herman Peitchinsky and wife, Mary, of Odessa; wonderful and loving in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. He served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Sears, Roebuck & Co. He was a highly respected musician and past president of Local 72-147 of the American Federation of Musicians. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roger, Raymond, W.H. ``Doc'' Thurman; and a sister, Mozelle; along with his wife of 34 years, Marilyn Whitworth. He married Opal Moore Dec. 31, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Opal; daughter, Cheryl Bradley and husband, Bruce, of San Angelo; son, Randall Whitworth and wife, Martha, of San Antonio; son, Lynn Massey and wife, Donna, of San Angelo; daughter, Donna Dula and husband, Pat, of Carlsbad; six grandchildren, Charles and Shanda Bradley, Emma Whitworth, Brendon and Russell Massey and Tony Harris; along with four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maybell Thomas, Arlette Cook and Billie Joyce Shields; a special sister-in-law, Bonnie Whitworth; three stepdaughters, Donna Powell, Kathy Brisco and Sandy Butts; and several nieces and nephews. LILLIAN McIVER McKINNEY - Lillian Lowdon Slaughter McIver, age 67, passed into eternal rest Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at home in Frisco, Texas, surrounded by loving family. Her death ends a 19-year battle of faith and courage fighting breast cancer. Lillian was a wise, intelligent lady whose wonderful humor, caring and thoughtfulness blessed many lives. Throughout her life, she gave generously of her spirit and talents, always with a positive attitude and encouraging word. Her strength and determination in the face of a lengthy, debilitating illness, derived from a deep and abiding faith that often served to inspire and uplift others. Beloved and cherished, Lillian leaves a legacy of bravery and hope, love and laughter, friends and family who celebrate her eternal life in Christ. A sixth-generation Texan, Lillian McIver was born Oct. 11, 1932, in San Angelo to Winnie Shepherd Slaughter and William Richard Slaughter. Her parents and a sister, Evelyn Slaughter Beck, preceded her in death. Lillian married Don Rhoderic McIver Sept. 9, 1950. They ranched in New Mexico a number of years until the corporate world took them to California, Kansas and Michigan. After establishing a business brokerage in San Antonio, they moved the company to Dallas in 1978. Lillian's life was devoted to her family, church and various volunteer organizations. She was a charter member of Custer Road United Church of Plano where she helped establish three Sunday school classes, several administrative programs and served on two building committees. She also was instrumental in developing the breast cancer support group, W.I.S.E. in Plano and served as a Cansurmount and Reach for Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Lillian participated in the 14th Dallas ``Walk to Emmaus,'' was a past member of Bible Study Fellowship and served as president of the San Antonio Tri Delta Mothers' Club. She appreciated and enjoyed art, music, good food, theater and all things beautiful. Lillian is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Don McIver; daughter and son-in-law, Jineen and Michael Bessire of Fort Worth; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lynda Scalf-McIver of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughters, Sarah and Ashley Bessire and Caitlin McIver; sister-in-law and husband, Barbara and E.J. White; nieces and husbands, Marsha and Jon Sparks, Natalie and David Hoelscher, Kimberly and Guy Goodson, Alyson and J.T. Ray; nephew and wife, John and Sallie White; great-nephews, Collin and Cameron Sparks, Will Goodson, Talmadge and H.L. AMY ESCOBAR SAUCEDA BALLINGER - Amy Escobar Sauceda, 24, of Houston and formerly of Ballinger, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in an automobile accident near Boerne. She was born April, 9, 1975, in Ballinger and graduated from Ballinger High School in 1993. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ballinger. She is survived by her husband, Peter Sauceda of Houston; her mother, Margarita L. Escobar of Ballinger; three sisters, Janie Martinez and Connie Escobar, both of Ballinger, and Yolanda Escobar of Houston; five brothers, George Escobar of Brady and Ismael, John, Tony and Ronnie Escobar, all of Ballinger; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles who dearly loved her; and a dear aunt, Ester Escobar of Ballinger. She also is survived by her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs Margarito Sauceda Sr. of Ballinger. She also takes with her a dear pet, ``Pooh Bear.'' She was preceded in death by her father, Juan M.
