Castle, Architects and Engineers. In 1960, ``Mac'' started his own company and worked as a general contractor until retirement. Mr. McCown's first love was preaching the gospel of Christ. As a faithful servant, he preached for more than 50 years, traveling each Sunday to appointments in various locations, including the Hill County communities of Murr and Cedar Hill, and Eldorado, Shep, Wingate, Norton, Hatchel, Eastland, Cisco, May, Big Spring and San Antonio. In 1974, he traveled to India on missionary work. Bledsoe, 79, of San Angelo died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, after a brief battle with lung cancer. He owned and operated the Troy Laundry and Dry Cleaners, a business started by his father in 1908. David was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille; and daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Ron Brown, Sharon and Glenn Ellstrom and Jan and Ron Masten. He was lovingly referred to as ``Daddy D'' by his four grandchildren, David Brent Brown, Tiffany Field, Andrea Payte and Sean Masten, and one great-grandson, Cameron Field. He loved telling his grandchildren stories about growing up in San Angelo and all its history, especially his experiences in the flood of 1936. David was an avid sports fan and a previous competitor in baseball, golf, tennis and bowling. Hunting gave him much pleasure also. COLEMAN - Charles Robert Taylor Sr. was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Coleman, Texas, to F.W. Taylor Sr. and Sarah Edith Johnson Taylor. On June 16, 2000, he went to be with the Lord. Charles spent his early years working for his father and brothers at Taylor Motor Co. located in Coleman. In the late 1920s, Charles went to work for the Dunman Ranch (XV Ranch) in Novice, Texas. For 10 years he courted the owners', Theo and Mary I. Dunman, younger daughter, Martha Theda Dunman. On Sept. 20, 1939, she became his wife. During the early stages of World War II, Charles and Martha ran a boarding house in the Morris family home for the Coleman Air Corps trainees. In 1944, Charles joined the Army Air Corps. On returning to Texas, he continued to work for the Dunman Ranch and the Taylor Ranch. In 1961, he became the manager of the Mary I. Dunman Estate. In 1971 and until his death, Charles and Martha were the owner/operators of the Double X Ranch located in the Novice area. Charles was an active member of the Coleman Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years; a lifetime member, supporter and officer of the Coleman Rodeo Association; a 4-H supporter and aider; an avid FFA supporter; an active member of the Texas Tech Dad's Association from 1960-1977; and a longtime member of the Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers, Alton, Ben, Mark and Dink; sisters, Mae Belle, Lorena and Sarah Edith ``Sadie.'' Jack was born May 22, 1941, in San Antonio to Charlie Wade and Neva Preston McCrohan. As a young man growing up and working in San Antonio and San Angelo, Jack was fun-loving and full of spirit and especially enjoyed fishing and camping. At age 29, he suffered an injury which left him a quadraplegic and bedridden. She resided at Myrtlewood Estates where she enjoyed the friendship of many residents and the loving care of the staff. Bill served in the Army Air Corps for seven years beginning in the late 1940s where he was a radio operator on a B-29 bomber crew. Throughout his life he was a dedicated ham radio enthusiast. He was a television engineer for KTVE-TV in El Dorado, Ark., for more than 25 years. He was employed with KIDY-TV in San Angelo before his stroke. The last year of his life he was able to stay close to his family in the hospital and then after recovery at home. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep. Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. No sacrifice was too great for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Dorothy Marie Cutrer Garrett. Memorials may be made in Bill's honor to the Masonic Lodge of choice or the Bronte Health and Rehab Center. JIM L. SHUFFIELD BRADY - Jim L. Shuffield, local businessman and lifelong resident, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 52 years old. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the First Baptist Church in Brady with Randal Larr officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Leatherwood Colonial Funeral Home. Mr. Shuffield was born Oct. 29, 1947, to Arthur and Gladys (Lewallen) Shuffield. He married Kellene McLean on June 17, 1967, in Mexico. A prominent businessman in the local and surrounding communities, he owned and operated Shuffield Nursing Homes in Brady as well as rental properties in Brownwood and Brady. He began the local nursing homes in 1966 and built the business to include three local facilities that currently employ 150 persons. He worked to provide certified training for nurses' aides and was one of the first to implement the Eden Alternative plan. He was a charter member of the Brady Community Church where he served as president of the church's financial board. He was instrumental in establishing the local Benevolence Barn. He was a rancher, a pilot and an avid hunter and marksman. He is survived by his mother, Gladys Baird of Brady; his wife, Kellene Shuffield of the home; two sons, Steve Shuffield and wife, Kathy, of Glen Rose and Jim K. Shuffield and wife, Tisha, of Brady; a daughter, Lexa Bomar and husband, Dave, of Ontario, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Sheldon and Preston Shuffield, Garrett and Riley Shuffield, Owen Bomar and Nicole Nowlin. He was preceded in death by his father.
