BROWN William D. ``Bill'' Brown, 82, of San Angelo died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his residence. Bill was born June 19, 1918, in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1941-1943. He owned and operated the High-Sky Restaurant at the Midland Air Terminal in Midland until he retired in 1986. He married Rosemary Johnson Van Hoozer Oct. 22, 1986, in Midland and was a member of Southland Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Friendship Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Terminal Lions Club of Midland for 21 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. Brown, and his sister, Gladys Cramer. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Brown of San Angelo; one daughter, Patti Brown of Port Aransas, Texas; three granddaughters, Tammy Triggs of Port Aransas, J.J. ALBERT STOVALL Albert Stovall, 80, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 6, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, in Big Spring. He was honorably discharged as boatswain's mate second class on October 1945 at Camp Wallace, Texas. He served in the Pacific aboard USS Tennessee, USS Proteus and USS LST 1014 during World War II. He married Sally L. Churchwell on Aug. 24, 1941, in San Angelo. He was a truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ. Kay was an active participant in the First United Methodist Church activities including United Methodist Women, Emmaus, Note Writers and the Joy Choir. She was a longtime resident of Dallas before moving to San Angelo to live with her daughter in 1995. She met Lewis Edward Ratliff Jr. in San Angelo in 1936. They married in Sonora in 1938. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before Edward died in 1998. Ethel was a loving and caring woman who enjoyed her friends, her church and tending her garden. Her family has always played an important role in her life and she enjoyed being with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; and two sisters, Betty Elizabeth Killingsworth and Tina Estelle McClain. She is survived by one brother, John B. Chilcoat of Knox City; six sisters, Ladelle Abbott of San Angelo, Connell Houston of Spur, Mayre Jo Chilcoat of Amarillo, Crystal Fannin of Amarillo, Dorothy Thomason of Spur and Gaye Barclay of Napa, Calif. Ethel was especially close to her niece, Carole Stoker and Carole's family, Ray, Craig and Cathleen, who lived in Odessa and were able to help Ethel in many ways. Helen graduated from San Angelo High School, attended Incarnate Word in San Antonio and the University of Texas. Helen received the volunteer of the year award in 1990, having accrued more than 5,000 hours of service. MARGARET ANN ODSTRCIL Margaret Ann Odstrcil, 68, of San Angelo died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, in a local hospital. Margaret was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Snyder to Jesse and Otis Barron. She graduated from Snyder High School in 1948. Margaret worked as a tint artist at a photography studio and then as a bookkeeper for an insurance agency. Margaret jokingly referred to herself as a ``domestic engineer'' and was a master of turning ordinary events into celebrations of lasting memory. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Cassie Wheelis, and a granddaughter, Lisa Wheelis, all of Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Wickham. Zilpha was retired from the Dallas County Auditors Office and was a longtime employee of the Sutton County Sheriff's Office as the tax assessor/collector. ROBERT HINES FARIS GEORGETOWN - Robert Hines Faris, 52, of Georgetown passed away Sunday, July 9, 2000, after a lengthy and courageous battle with a brain tumor. Robert was born Oct. 7, 1947, in Llano to Lofton Tanner and Mildred Breazeale Faris. He spent most of his childhood growing up on the family ranch in Cherokee. Following graduation from Cherokee High School, Robert attended and graduated Texas A&M University where he received his bachelor of science in animal science in 1970. He enjoyed a 29-year career with USDA, first with Farmers Home Administration and most recently with the Farm Service Agency. During those years he advanced from assistant county supervisor to the position of district director. Robert continued his association with Texas A&M through his work and with support as a member of the Century Club. Robert was very active in the lives of his children. He always had time for them whether it was coaching Little League baseball or attending soccer games for his sons, or volleyball, basketball, track, or band events for his daughters. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Velice Bush Faris, and his mother, Mildred Breazeale Faris. Dee was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Dyersburg, Tenn., to Thomas R. and Flora Sanders. She moved with her family at an early age to Bay, Ark. She married J.E. Holt in 1933. They became cotton farmers. They had two daughters, Shirley and Deane, and one son, Teddy. Dee then managed the family grocery store. They moved to San Angelo in 1960. They then moved to East Texas where J.E. sold lake property, and they became property managers at Lake Arrowhead in East Texas. They returned to San Angelo in 1980 and managed a local apartment complex until their retirement. Mrs. Holt was a member of the Baptist Church. MARGARET GUY BROWN JONES At the age of 78 years, on July 12, 2000, Margaret Guy Brown Jones died at her home after a long illness. Her family and friends will celebrate her life at a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15, in the chapel at Johnson's Funeral Home. Born to Loretta Elizabeth Sperry Brown and Charles Wright Brown in Greenwood, Miss., on July 9, 1921, she spent her early years in Minter City, Miss. Guy attended Mississippi schools and in 1946, she married Earl Eugene Jones at Minter City Methodist Church. They had two children; Marsha Jones LeGrand Lentz and Curtis Sperry Jones. She was a full-time mother and ever supportive wife of a cotton farmer in the Mississippi Delta for many years. She was an active member of the Gunnison Baptist Church during their time there. In 1982, Guy and Earl retired from farming and moved to San Angelo to enjoy their three grandsons, Rob, Doug and Clay LeGrand. While living in San Angelo, she belonged to First Baptist Church where she especially enjoyed the Esther Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Shannon Medical Center Auxiliary. Preceding Mrs. Jones in death were her parents, her only son, Curtis, and her brother, Charles Glenn Brown, of Greenwood, Miss. She is survived by her husband, Earl, of 54 years; her daughter, Marsha, and her husband, Ron, her youngest grandson, Clayton Hunter LeGrand, and stepgrandson, Ryan Paul Lentz, all of San Angelo. ANDREW `RICKY' MARTINEZ JACKSON After being diagnosed with cancer this year, Andrew ``Ricky'' Martinez Jackson, 15, of San Angelo ended his journey here on earth Wednesday, July 12, 2000. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North with Pastor Mike Suarez of Victory Outreach officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Ricky was born Sept. 29, 1984, in San Angelo. He was a student at Lake View High School and a member of the Air Force Junior ROTC. He loved being outdoors and some of his favorite hobbies included camping and fishing. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Joe A. Martinez. Survivors include his parents, Angela and Corndus Jackson of San Angelo; his brothers, Mario A. Perez and Jonathan J. Martinez Jackson, a sister, Leslie M. Jackson, all of San Angelo; his grandparents, Francis Martinez of San Angelo, Gladys and Corndus Jackson Sr., and his paternal great-grandmother, Oria Jackson of Lamesa. He will be dearly missed by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. God has taken you from our side. CLARA HERALD BROWN Clara Herald Brown, 81, of San Angelo died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, in a local hospital. Private family service will be at a later date. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Clara was born March 25, 1919, in Amitol, N.J., to Albert William and Tina Samson Herald. She retired from Ethicon. Clara was a resident of San Angelo for 44 years. She is survived by two sons, Johnny Brown and wife, Patricia, and Steven Brown and wife, Jackie, all of San Angelo; a daughter, Cheryl Kopp of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and two grandsons.
