Cox, 57, of Deer Park died Saturday, July 29, 2000, in Baytown after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 22, 1942, in Houston to Charles Byron and Esta Mae Cox. He graduated from San Angelo High School in the early '60s and went into the Navy for several years. He served in the Harris County Sheriff's Department for seven years then worked as a prison guard in Huntsville for several years. In the late '70s he went into the air conditioning business and in the early '90s he started his own air conditioning business. He will be missed deeply by all of his friends and family. Charlie is survived by his wife, Kelley D. Cox of Deer Park; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and George Leikam of Cypress and Karen and George Morriss of Austin; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Paula Cox of Flower Mound; and three grandchildren, Joshua Leikam and wife, Becky, and Amanda Leikam and Thomas Martin. WALTER C. ``DUB'' LANEY Walter C. ``Dub'' Laney was born May 1, 1928, in Sulphur Springs to Walter and Clara Laney. He grew up in East Texas and moved to the West Texas area in 1945. He married Mary Batson on May 14, 1949, in Abilene. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. He worked for Perry Dental Laboratory in Abilene until 1951 when he moved to San Angelo to manage their San Angelo laboratory. He purchased the Perry Dental Laboratory in 1959 and changed the name to W.C. Laney Dental Laboratory. He had been past president of the Dental Laboratory Association of Texas and had served on many committees in the organization. He had been a certified dental technician for more than 35 years, always was interested in dental laboratory technology and took great pride in his laboratory work. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Mitchell and Dr. Byron Orand officiating. He had resided in San Angelo for the last 25 years, where he met his wife, Wilma Hill "Jerry" Kassay. They were married in Paint Rock on July 26, 1983. Although her health declined over the past few years, everyone who came in contact with her always left with a smile on their face. Even in sickness she never lost her sense of humor. ELIZABETH McGOWEN ROETSCHKE MIDLAND - Elizabeth Ann Roetschke was born Aug. 11, 1931, in Coleman, Texas, to Murman Alexander and Effie Martha (Gregory) McGowen. She was reared in San Angelo, graduating from high school and attending college there. On Aug. 19, 1972, she married Ron C. Roetschke in Crane, Texas. Mrs. Roetschke was a member of the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church. She was a member of the Republican Women's Association, an avid bridge player, a leader for the Girl and Boy Scouts, and a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Roetschke died at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000. Her courage and faith were an inspiration to all. Her loving spirit will be dearly missed. Ella was born Aug. 10, 1900, in Cheyenne Territory to Luther Jonathan and Avis Turnbough. Ella married Joe Moulton in 1919 and moved to Wellington, Texas, where they ranched. To this marriage were born three children, Josephine, Wallace Ray and Tommie Jo. They moved to San Angelo in 1939. Joe Moulton died Feb. 12, 1952, and Ella later married Fred Dixon of Portales, N.M., moving to New Mexico where she lived until Mr. Dixon's death. Ella returned to San Angelo and moved to the Rio Concho Manor until declining health caused her to enter the nursing home. In the early '40s Ella worked at Sturges Ladies Store and San Angelo Drug Store and owned a linen shop on Beauregard. Ella loved to play bridge, skipbo and travel. She was a 50-year member of the First Baptist Church. She was born Sept. 14, 1924, to Salvador and Petra Samaripa. She worked most of her life as a housekeeper and though her wages were meager, her biggest joy and accomplishment was making sure her five sons were always provided for. Although her health declined over the past few years, everyone who came out in contact with her always left with a smile on their face. Even in sickness she never lost her sense of humor. Veda Marie Ford was born on Oct. 21, 1913, in May to Ida Triplitt Ford and Jacob Samuel Ford. She attended business school in Wichita Falls after her marriage in 1943 to Milton Williams. She and Milton operated Williams Dry Goods in Menard until his death in 1972. Veda totally dedicated her life to rearing her children and her grandchildren. Affectionately known as Gaga to her grandchildren, she loved nothing more than having them stay with Gaga which always meant being overindulged with fried chicken, hot rolls and apple pie. Gordon was born March 27, 1947, in Greeley, Colo., to Missy Gordon Rainey and Charles Dale Rainey. He attended San Angelo public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1965. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech and his master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He served three years in the Army in Stuttgart, Germany. Gordon was a certified public accountant who worked for Arthur Anderson in Houston, and was controller for the First National Bank of San Angelo. He was a partner in Oliver, Rainey & Wojtek, along with his wife, Sharon; and currently an independent computer consultant. Gordon's love for computers led him to many technical certifications in this field which was his vocation for the last 12 years. He was an avid scuba diver, obtaining a master diver certificate and enjoyed many trips with family and friends to the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Gordon recently obtained his commercial pilot's license and was an enthusiastic participant and competitor in many ballooning events including Fiesta Del Concho and the Wild West Balloonfest and races in Albuquerque, Alpine, Missouri, Mississippi and Japan. Jeff was born March 2, 1907, to Robert and Fannie Bulger in San Angelo. He married Minnie Lea Ainsworth on Aug. 25, 1928, in San Angelo. She preceded him in death in 1986. He married Beth M. Hopkin on June 3, 1988, in San Angelo. Jeff served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years. He was a deacon and taught Sunday school at Immanuel Baptist Church. Jeff also was preceded in death by two sons, Jimmy Bulger in 1985 and Kenneth Bulger in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Beth Bulger of San Angelo; one son, Harold Bulger of Fort Worth; one daughter, Betty Forrest and husband, David, of Webster; two stepdaughters, Dr. Ciele Jupe and husband, Dr. Robert Jupe, of Orinda,{CQ} Calif., Dawn Almgren of Brownwood; one stepson, Garrett Combs of Oakland, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, in San Angelo. Survivors include his daughter, Georgina Rachelle McCarley of Bellevue; a son, Edward ``Burk'' McCarley and wife, Christy, of Bellevue; parents, George ``Ark'' and Dorothy McCarley of San Angelo; brothers, Bill McCarley and wife, Marilyn, and Jack McCarley, all of San Angelo; grandchildren, Monica Louise, Kristen Amelia and James Burk; several nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins. She married Glenn David ``Bud'' Pullin on May 9, 1942, in Ballinger. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1997. She was with Piggly Wiggly in Ballinger for 17 years, the Ballinger Co-op for nine years and while in Abilene she was a bookkeeper for the Abilene I.S.D. for 14 years. She was a member of the Abilene Business Women's Association and the Ninth Street Church of Christ in Ballinger. Her son, Michael E. Pullin of Ballinger, several nieces and nephews and many cousins survive her. CHARLES GORDON RAINEY Our beloved Charles Gordon Rainey, 53, left this life on Friday Aug, 4, 2000, while doing one of the things he enjoyed most- hot air ballooning. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with Father John Loving officiating and interment following in Fairmount Cemetery. Gordon was born March 27, 1947, in Greeley, Colo., to Missy Gordon Rainey and Charles Dale Rainey. He attended San Angelo public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1965. He received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech and his master's degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He served three years in the army in Stuttgart, Germany. Gordon was a certified public accountant who worked for Arthur Anderson in Houston, and was controller for the First National Bank of San Angelo. He was a partner in Oliver, Rainey & Wojtek, along with his wife, Sharon; and currently an independent computer consultant. Gordon's love for computers led him to many technical certifications in this field which was his vocation for the last 12 years. He was an avid scuba diver, obtaining a master diver certificate and enjoyed many trips with family and friends to the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Gordon recently obtained his commercial pilot's license and was an enthusiastic participant and competitor in many ballooning events including Fiesta Del Concho and the Wild West Balloonfest and races in Albuquerque, Alpine, Missouri, Mississippi and Japan. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of 21 years; a daughter, Rachel; a son, Dustin and his wife, Natasha, and granddaughters, Kristen and Kathryn Rainey of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, Brandon, and grandson, Collin Rainey, of Austin; his father, Charles Dale Rainey; brothers, Rusty Rainey and wife, Sherri, David Rainey and wife, Sue, all of San Angelo. He is also survived by his in-laws, Jack and Ann Moore, Michelle and Johnny Oswald, all of San Angelo; also Glenn Moore and wife, Michelle, and children of Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
